Understanding The Option Greeks And Option Strategies: An Example Using Apple Earnings

Journal of Economics and Finance Education

Students often struggle with understanding option price movements involving the interaction of option “Greeks” and option values. This case study examines the option price movements driven by delta, time decay, and implied volatility following an Apple earnings announcement. The exercise involves students strategically selecting options across multiple strategies and reveals the impact of changes in implied volatility which leads to counterintuitive option price reactions. The goal of the exercise is to bring awareness to the intricacies of option pricing in an empirical setting. We find that comprehension and retention increase significantly when a case study is performed using actual data.

Student Recognition Of Learning Gains: Evidence From Pre- And Post-Instruction Quizzes

This study investigates whether students in upper-division economics courses can meaningfully recognize their learning gains over time, independent of instructor-assigned grades. Using a repeated quiz design grounded in authentic assessment, students engaged with real-world economic articles before formal instruction and again after substantial course content had been delivered. Students evaluated their responses from both rounds, while instructors independently assessed the same work. Results show that students not only perceived significant learning gains but also became more accurate in assessing their own performance over time. Additionally, early self-perceptions appear to modestly predict later outcomes, while the largest learning gains occurred among …

Nevertheless, its subpar performance during the 2008 global financial crisis exposed it to significant criticism. As a result, a different strategy known as Risk Parity has attracted significant attention. Over the years, Risk Parity methods have gained popularity as investment solutions. Deviations beyond the two standard deviation range are interpreted as potential mean reversion signals, triggering tactical shifts in asset allocation or trading actions. Students construct the models in Excel using live market data, overlaying asset returns against calculated deviation bands to inform decisions. The firsthand approach emphasizes applied learning and critical thinking, with students analyzing model results and presenting empirical findings. Coase, Thaler, And Behavioral Economics: Methodological Considerations

In their experiments to measure the endowment effect in market settings, Kahneman, Knetsch, and Thaler (1990; hereafter KKT) assessed the assumption of zero transaction costs associated with the Coase theorem. Their study recruited a sample of advanced undergraduate economics students who were placed in a market setting using coffee mugs as real-world goods, under conditions in which there were zero transaction costs. Their results suggested that an endowment effect lowered trading volume, which should not have occurred if Coase theorem worked in practice. We reexamine the research design employed by KKT, as well as their study’s statistical analysis and results.

Borrowing in Moroccan Arabic is part of the dynamics of language contact. The article focuses on lexical borrowings from French and what they become once incorporated into usage: how they change, how they integrate, and especially how prefixation and suffixation in Moroccan Arabic can signal a high level of appropriation. The analysis, organized into four axes, highlights that integration does not happen all at once: a borrowing goes through several stages, and once stabilized, it evolves phonologically, morphologically, and semantically, just like words in the language.

Based on archival documents, this article sheds light on a key moment in the history of Berber studies through the career of the Berberist Saïd Cid Kaoui (1859–1910) and the making of his bilingual dictionaries (Tamâheq/Tuareg and Berber varieties of Morocco). It reconstructs the scholarly and institutional context (orientalism, military and university settings, the École supérieure des lettres d’Alger), the publication process, and exchanges with expert reviewers at the Ministry. The analysis highlights issues of terminology, transcription, and standardization, and shows how these lexicographic tools helped structure and disseminate research on Berber varieties.

Purpose – This study assesses how far Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) values are integrated into the investment strategy of Indonesia’s Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH), and how an ESG approach can be strengthened while remaining consistent with Sharia principles and maqasid al-shariah.

Design/methodology/approach – A qualitative content analysis is conducted on BPKH annual reports, audited financial statements, and public disclosures from 2020–2023. In 2024, the United States had a “jurisdictional dog fight” on its hands; one between a defendant’s right to access federal courts through removal and a plaintiff’s status as “master of the complaint.” At stake was not mere technical procedure but the very balance between state and federal authority. When defendants began removing cases with embedded federal questions to federal court only to have plaintiffs amend their complaints to eliminate federal “hooks,” the resulting legal battle would test the boundaries of precedent and the logic governing forum selection. Royal Canin U.S.A., Inc. v. Wullschleger provided such a test.

In December 2018, twenty-three-year-old Jorge Molina was wrongfully arrested for murder based on location data received from a Google geofence—a virtual perimeter around a specific geographic location, created using Google’s location services. Despite law enforcement confirming his alibi within twenty-four hours, Molina spent six days in jail before he was released. As a result, Molina lost his job and car, suffered reputational damage, and was forced to drop out of college. Red, inflamed cutaneous nodules are frequently diagnosed as epidermal inclusion cysts in both primary care and dermatology settings. However, several benign and malignant entities can closely mimic an inflamed cyst, leading to delayed diagnosis and suboptimal management. We present four patients who initially presented with erythematous nodules clinically suspected to be cysts; final histopathologic diagnoses included dermatofibroma, amelanotic melanoma, dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, and undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma. For each case, we describe the clinical presentation, histopathology, and management. The presence of a central punctum and superficial mobility strongly favors an epidermal inclusion cyst.
