Arabic Languages and Literatures

The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences of Muslim mothers of children with disabilities. Many studies have addressed the challenges faced by family caregivers in Western societal settings and little is known about the challenges of Muslim mothers of children with disabilities faced and the impact to their well-being. The study revealed several themes regarding the values in caregiving, disparity, fortitude, and needs. It provided a unique perspective on the intersection of gender with culture, religion, and immigrant status for the caregivers. The implication on the cultural stigmatization of disability in Muslim communities is discussed.

Textualism: Definition, And 20 Reasons Why Textualism Is Preferable To Other Methods Of Statutory Interpretation, Caroline Bermeo Newcombe

Missouri Law Review

When Justice Elena Kagan announced that “we’re all textualists now,” she was referring to a method of statutory interpretation known as textualism. Textualism is one of four methods of statutory interpretation. The other methods are: intentionalism, purposivism, and legal pragmatism. During the confirmation process, Justice Amy Coney Barrett was asked by Senators whether she was committed to a “textualist theory” of statutory interpretation, and whether she shared the judicial philosophy of Justice Scalia. But why is the method of statutory interpretation that a judge chooses so important? It is important because most cases that come before federal courts today involve …

Liability Insurance And Contractual Aspects Of Settlement, Douglas R. Richmond Jan 2022

Liability Insurance And Contractual Aspects Of Settlement, Douglas R. Richmond

Missouri Law Review

Most civil litigation settles. Many settlements are paid by liability insurers following the negotiation of settlement agreements by the parties’ lawyers. Settlement agreements are contracts, and their interpretation and enforcement are therefore governed by contract law principles. The essential elements of a contract are offer, acceptance, and consideration. In the liability insurance context as elsewhere, contract disputes connected to settlements typically center on either offer or acceptance. To be valid, a settlement offer must be capable of acceptance. The offer must be definite, and its material terms must be reasonably certain. When it comes to accepting a settlement offer, the …

Teachers’ Perception Of College And Career Education Exposure On Middle School Students, Francisco Jose Valverde, Joshua Davidow

Graduate Student Dissertations, Theses, Capstones, and Portfolios

Properly preparing middle school students for their transition to high school and postsecondary endeavors requires early exposure to college and career information and resources. Across the United States, high school students have access to a scattered array of programs and resources aimed at career development and college preparation. Unfortunately, none of these college and career resources are integrated into the K-12 student experience in any systemic or holistic way. Furthermore, very few of these resources are even directed at K-12 students prior to their time in high school. This gap in college and career education is due to a lack …

Theses and Dissertations--Public Health (M.P.H. & Dr.P.H.)

Obesity rates across the U.S. are increasing, especially among adolescent females. Physical activity rates have been associated with obesity and many related health outcomes. Regular physical activity can help adolescents improve their cardiorespiratory fitness, build strong bones, control their weight, and reduce depression 1. It can also help reduce the risk of developing health conditions like heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, type II diabetes, and obesity 1. Thus, physical activity among youth provides a risk factor to target, with the intention of eventually decreasing obesity rates.

Recommended physical education class CDC guidelines are not being met …
