The development of distributed energy resources brings significant advantages to bipolar DC microgrids. Due to load asymmetry, voltage imbalance may occur between the positive and negative poles of a bipolar DC microgrid. Voltage balancers have therefore been introduced and are generally classified into centralized and distributed configurations. A centralized voltage balancer cannot address voltage imbalance caused by long-distance power lines or terminal loads, while a distributed voltage balancer increases system cost due to the construction of additional facilities. Computer vision-based methods for insulator defect detection from aerial images are widely used in power inspection. To address missed and false detections caused by complex backgrounds and small target scales, a YOLO-insulator defect detection model is proposed to improve detection accuracy. First, the reparameterized convolution based on channel shuffle-one-shot aggregation (RCS-OSA) is introduced to replace the traditional two-dimensional convolution C2f, thus enhancing the network's feature extraction capability. The three-core cable intermediate joint is a vulnerable component of the cable system. The addition of an explosion-proof box can effectively prevent joint failure from affecting the normal operation of other cables, and also affects the surface temperature distribution of the joint. In this paper, a three-dimensional full-scale model of a 35 kV cable intermediate joint with an explosion-proof box is developed, and a multiphysics coupled simulation model based on finite element theory is established. This article investigates the intersection of global gender equality norms with local contexts, focusing on Senegal’s implementation of the 2010 gender parity law. Despite the global trend towards electoral gender quotas, the effectiveness and societal acceptance of these measures vary significantly. Through a critical examination of existing literature on gender quotas and an analysis of the parity law’s reception in Senegal, this article explores the nuanced dynamics between legislative measures and societal norms. It argues that, while gender quotas can enhance women’s visibility in politics, deeply ingrained cultural and religious norms may undermine the more substantive impact of such legislated …

Substance use disorder counselors face increasing challenges in responding to a growing and more severely affected population, often presenting with co-occurring mental health conditions and complex clinical needs. Clinical supervision plays a critical role in supporting counselor development, yet little is known about the factors that contribute to clinical supervisors’ self-efficacy in providing supervision for alcohol and drug counselors. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine whether years of counseling experience, years of substance use disorder (SUD) counseling experience, years as a clinical supervisor, professional counseling credentials, and supervisory credentials predicted self-efficacy among clinical supervisors. As the global population ages, there is a growing need for assistive technologies to help older adults maintain their independence. This work presents a cost-effective autonomous socially assistive robot designed for object retrieval and delivery, enhancing accessibility in home environments. The system is built on the Robot Operating System (ROS) framework and integrates three key components: the Pioneer P3-DX mobile robot for autonomous navigation, the ReactorX-200 robotic arm for pick-and-place operations, and the Kinect v2 RGB-D camera for object detection and localization. This study examines the evolving historiography of Andrei Vlasov and the Russian Liberation Army (ROA) from the end of World War II to the post-Soviet era. Drawing on Soviet, émigré, and Western sources, it traces how interpretations of Vlasov’s defection reflected shifting moral and political frameworks in Russia’s collective memory. The analysis demonstrates that portrayals of Vlasov, from Stalinist condemnations to post-Soviet reappraisals, mirror the state’s changing relationship to patriotism, legitimacy, and dissent. By comparing Cold War scholarship with contemporary Russian debates, this paper argues that the Vlasov question endures not because of mere intrigue, but because it embodies the …

The U.S. government has long surveilled immigrant communities by collecting identifying information, including biometric data. The passage of the DNA Fingerprint Act of 2005 expanded the possible sources of data to include DNA. In 2020, the Trump administration seized on the permissive language of the statute to require that DNA be collected from nearly every noncitizen detained by the federal government. Now, 2.6 million noncitizens and counting have their DNA permanently stored by the federal government. This Note examines the constitutionality of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(5), which prohibits unlawful aliens from possessing firearms, under the Supreme Court’s text-and-history framework announced in New York State Rifle & Pistol Ass’n, Inc. v. Bruen and developed further in United States v. Rahimi. In the wake of Bruen, lower courts have fractured over how strictly to demand historical analogues and how to treat longstanding status-based restrictions in § 922, including prohibitions on possession by felons, domestic-violence offenders, and noncitizens. Against that backdrop, this Note argues that § 922(g)(5) is constitutionally sound.

A nonenzymatic conductivity-based glucose biosensor, reported here, designed for potential noninvasive measurement in accessible biofluids such as saliva, sweat, and tears. The sensor exploits a classic Tollens’ silvering process that deposits metallic silver on a sensitized surface via a quantitative, selective reduction of silver ions by glucose. Of the two surface sensitization methods used, the self-assembled bifunctional thiol/silane surfactant yields a more stable and sensitive sensor than tin(II) chloride. The conductometric sensor consists of two spiral interdigitated silver electrodes fabricated by lithography and wet etching. The sensor impedance changes after selective metallic silver deposition between the electrodes. The sensor exhibits …

Human trafficking is an abhorrent human rights violation, and victims experience a myriad of health disturbances while being exploited. Victims often seek emergency medical care, but research consistently shows that emergency medical personnel (EMP) are largely unprepared to screen, identify, and respond to them. However, there has been no research exploring their preparedness to screen, identify, and respond to victims of human trafficking, the barriers and challenges to identification of human trafficking victims, and training needs to improve screening, identification, and response to human trafficking victims in North Dakota.
