Introduction: The impact of and neighborhood socioeconomic factors on surgical outcomes in reduction mammoplasty remains unclear. This study evaluated the effect of area deprivation index (ADI) and insurance status on postoperative outcomes following reduction mammoplasty.

Methods: A retrospective review of reduction mammoplasty cases was conducted at a single institution over a 7-year period. Patients ≥18 years old who underwent reduction mammoplasty for benign macromastia were included. Zip-code linked ADI, insurance type, and postoperative complication rate were assessed.

Results: In total, 594 patients were analyzed. Mean age was 36.2 ± 13.1 years, mean body mass index (BMI) was 32.6 ± 5.2 …

Introduction/Purpose: Routine well child care (WCC) is critical for monitoring growth, development, and family wellbeing. Children born to mothers with opioid use disorder are less likely to receive adequate WCC, contributing to preventable health disparities. A Philadelphia-based substance use treatment program provides comprehensive care for pregnant and parenting individuals with substance use disorders, including an on-site pilot group- based WCC model designed to enhance access to and quality of WCC.

Introduction: Underlying atrial fibrillation (AF) is commonly screened for in patients with stroke of unknown cause, cryptogenic stroke (CS), using implantable loop recorders (ILRs). However, the risk factors correlated with AF detection after CS are poorly identified. Thus our goals were to elucidate which characteristics correlate with AF detection in patients with CS and to investigate if there is an age below which ILR implantation is clinically irrelevant.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study on patients with CS who underwent ILR implantation at TJUH from 4/2019-4/2021 (n=282). Exclusion criteria were < 6 months of follow-up data, ILR placement >1 year after CS, or pre-existing AF (n=64). Demographics …

Background: Meningiomas are the most common primary intracranial tumors. WHO Grade I meningiomas are considered benign and demonstrate high radiosensitivity, with excellent outcomes following conventionally fractionated radiotherapy (CFRT) or hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (hSRT). Despite widespread clinical adoption of both approaches, direct comparative data assessing local control (LC) remain limited. This study aims to evaluate the relative efficacy of CFRT and hSRT to better inform optimal regimen selection for patients with Grade I meningioma.

Introduction/Purpose: Orthopaedic surgery is among the most competitive residency specialties, and applicants have historically relied on USMLE Step 1 scores as a metric of ability for applications. However, as Step 1 has transitioned to pass/fail in 2022, there has been a shift in emphasis toward other metrics such as research productivity. The purpose of this project is to evaluate the research trends among orthopaedic residency applicants over time with the hypothesis that post-pass/fail Step 1 applications would demonstrate higher research output at the time of application.

Introduction/Purpose: Despite the availability of disease-modifying therapies (DMT), adults with sickle cell disease (SCD) experience a multitude of adverse health effects that impact quality of life (QOL), with pain being the most common complication. There are few studies that objectively assess the relationship between DMT use and QOL in adults. This study aims to understand whether the currently used tools are sensitive to the use of DMT.

Introduction/Purpose: Oxygen therapy is widely utilized for cases of hypoxemia. However, limited data evaluate the adverse effects of oxygen therapy in large cohorts. We hypothesize oxygen therapy correlates to an increased rate of trips, falls, and fractures, potentially due to limited mobility and the oxygen tubing posing a hazard.

Methods: TriNetX, a deidentified electronic health record database, was utilized to create two cohorts. Both cohorts consisted of patients with a COPD diagnosis, validated with PFTs. Introduction/Purpose: Somatic genomic testing in metastatic prostate cancer (mPC) identifies genomic variants which provide clinical insight into the disease biology. Somatic testing results determine eligibility for standard of care targeted therapies and clinical trial eligibility. While national guidelines recommend testing for all mPC patients, patients with adverse social determinants of health (SDOH), racial minority groups and patients with low socioeconomic status (SES) have historically undergone lower rates of testing compared to national standards. This study aims to identify barriers to testing in mPC patients in the Jefferson system and ultimately understand the factors that influence testing rates.

INTRODUCTION: Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is essential to detect and monitor structural damage in glaucoma. However, current practices focus on global and sectoral values, not localized changes. The study explores a novel approach using spatially determined superpixel clusters from swept- source OCT (SS-OCT) to assess localized changes in both healthy and glaucomatous eyes. We hypothesize that this method will provide reproducible results comparable with standard OCT parameters.

Introduction/Purpose: Previous studies have demonstrated that diabetes is linked to mental health disorders, including depression. In our student-delivered education program, Jefferson Glycemic Load (JeffGL), we aim to investigate the effects of glycemic load patient education on depression in diabetic and prediabetic patients. We hypothesize that participants will demonstrate reduced depression scores compared to baseline, measured using the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), after participation in JeffGL.

This presentation examines a new methodological approach by introducing shimmer as an embodied epistemological state that frequently appears within creative-practice research but is rarely named, scaffolded, or assessed. Emerging at the intersection of feminist philosophy, phenomenology, affect theory, reflective practice, and practice-led research, shimmer describes the moment when insight coheres somatically before it can be articulated conceptually. Rather than positioning intuition as unrigorous or accidental, shimmer reframes embodied emergence as a legitimate site of knowledge production. The paper situates shimmer in relation to existing frameworks such as flow, reflective practice, and action research, identifying a persistent gap in the literature …

Introduction: Residential lead remediation is an effective primary prevention approach for addressing lead exposure. Current guidelines require residents of a home get relocated during the remediation. Relocation is often for a period of ten days; however, no study has explored the effect of relocation on families. This study aims to understand the experiences of relocated families with a goal to develop a framework for relocation informed by the experiences of previously relocated families.

We present a collection of 17 high-quality long-read inbred mouse strain genomes with complete annotation (contig N50s of 0.8-33.9 Mbp). This collection includes 12 widely used classical laboratory strains and 5 wild-derived strains. We have resolved previously incomplete genomic regions, including the major histocompatibility complex (MHC), defensin cluster, T cell receptor, and Ly49 complexes. Hundreds of non-reference genes from previous publications not found in GRCm39, such as Defa1, Raet1a, and Klra20 (Ly49T), were localized in the new reference genomes. We conducted a genome-wide scan of variable number tandem repeats (VNTRs) within the coding regions, identifying over 400 genes with VNTR …

Mycobacteria Infection Induced Cascade Of Epigenetic Alterations Promote Training In Bystander Macrophages, Shah E. Jahan Gulzar Mr

Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) remodels host cell functions to support its intracellular persistence. While the effects of Mtb infection on infected macrophages are well characterized, responses of uninfected bystander cells in the same microenvironment remain poorly understood. Here, we show that Mtb infection triggers widespread epigenetic reprogramming not only in infected macrophages but also in neighbouring bystander cells. These bystander macrophages acquire active chromatin marks, exhibit distinct transcriptional changes, and display enhanced immune responsiveness, thereby increasing resistance to both homologous and heterologous infections. We identify interleukin-1 beta secreted by infected cells as a key mediator of this process. Functionally, trained bystander …
