Learning Engineering Design Through Making: Affordances Of A Nonformal Tinkering Environment, Cristina Simarro, Digna Couso

The maker movement has been increasingly adopted as a means for promoting interdisciplinary approaches to STEM learning. However, empirical evidence regarding how making supports the development of engineering design skills remains limited and inconclusive. This study provides an in-depth examination of a nonformal educational initiative grounded in tinkering, a creative and improvisational subset of making, by analyzing the tasks undertaken by primary school children in a tinkering setting. Our results confirm the capacity of tinkering activities to foster specific engineering design practices and elucidate the interrelationships between them. The alignment between textbook demands and learner proficiency in a CEFR A1–A2 General English course (Eng. 05225) was examined for Psychology students at a Saudi public university, using Evolve Special Edition7, focusing specifically on textbook suitability, learner struggle, and cognitive load across the four language skills. Document analysis of 23 curriculum artefacts and structured interviews with five teachers and 16 students, from across the proficiency levels, were qualitatively triangulated to support identification of the five key elements raised by the students and teachers of this study. This study aimed to investigate the extent to which metacognitive thinking skills are embedded in the Grade 7 Science textbook in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. To achieve this objective, the study adopted the descriptive analytical approach, as it is considered the most appropriate methodology for content analysis research. The study instrument consisted of a content analysis checklist constructed based on metacognitive thinking skills. Influencer marketing has emerged as a powerful digital marketing strategy in the era of social media. This study examines the effectiveness of influencer marketing in shaping consumer attitudes, brand engagement, and purchase decisions. Primary data were collected through a structured questionnaire distributed using Google Forms, yielding 308 valid responses. Statistical tools such as percentage analysis, correlation, chi-square test, and one-way ANOVA were used to analyze the data. Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning are reshaping upstream oil and gas operations, yet their value depends less on algorithmic sophistication than on converting heterogeneous sensor streams into timely operational decisions. This study develops and evaluates an AI-enabled framework for early detection of lost circulation incidents (LCIs) during drilling, positioning this safety-critical use case within the broader innovation architecture of upstream operations. Uncontrolled drilling-fluid losses generate non-productive time, well-control risk, and substantial cost. Personalization in chat assistants requires multiple interdependent components, where outputs from earlier components are consumed as inputs by downstream components. Manual optimization of these context windows remains highly complex. To address this issue, a method is disclosed wherein context windows are organized into a hierarchical schema of atomic blocks. A joint optimization algorithm is utilized to simultaneously refine top-level inputs, atomic block roles, and child block orderings. The optimization process is guided by past candidate performance, structured evaluation rubrics and processes, and internal model signals, including attention weights and introspection scores. This dissertation examines changes in Earth's energetic-particle environment using measurements from the Calorimetric Electron Telescope (CALET) on the International Space Station. Although CALET was designed primarily for high-energy cosmic-ray and gamma-ray observations, its count rates provide nearly continuous measurements of particles of ~1 MeV and above. The analysis uses the CHDX, CHDY, and IMC4X channels, which have approximate electron thresholds of $>\!1.5$, $\!>3.4$, and $\!>8.2$~MeV and proton thresholds of $>\!17$, $\!>37$, and $\!>52$~MeV, respectively. Because these measurements do not identify particle species, the observations are interpreted using their geographic and geomagnetic distributions, the relative …

Non-Native English-Speaking Teachers Of Writing, Native-Speaker Ideologies, And Feedback Uptake In First-Year Composition, Mustapha Bannerman

Rhetoric and Composition PhD papers

Research on non-native English-speaking teachers (NNESTs) and writing feedback has rarely examined how students’ perceptions of multilingual instructors shape feedback uptake. This critical literature review synthesizes scholarship from composition studies, second language writing, translingualism, and NNEST research to examine this relationship in first-year composition. The review argues that native-speaker ideologies may shape perceptions of instructor credibility in ways that could influence students’ willingness to trust and apply feedback during revision. It identifies a significant gap in existing scholarship and calls for empirical research and pedagogical practices that promote linguistic justice, multilingualism, and equitable writing instruction in higher education.

Chronological Intersectionality: Navigating Off-Time Career Reinvention For Women At Midlife And Beyond, Sara W. Bailey

Counselors are trained to anticipate on-time retirement-linked risks but increasingly are serving women pursuing off-time midlife career reinvention within ageist, sexist, racist, and ableist systems of power. Grounded in the author’s personal narrative, this perspective article highlights the compounded burdens of gendered ageism, biopsychosocial aging, and non-prototypical professional acceleration for midlife women. Built upon Crenshaw’s (1989) framework, chronological intersectionality is introduced as a way for counselors to conceptualize the concurrent biopsychosocial and systemic pressures and marginalization that can occur when age-expected norms collide with career changes for midlife women. Implications for clinical practice are described.

Objective: To characterize feasibility, tolerability, and patient-reported outcomes after a 10-session full-body red and near-infrared photobiomodulation (PBM) protocol for musculoskeletal pain in a predominantly Hispanic/ Latino community sample.

Background: PBM is a non-pharmacological intervention with potential analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Evidence from community-based and Hispanic/Latino populations remains limited, and full-body LED protocols are incompletely standardized.

Individuals with FASD and their caregivers often face complex challenges while navigating behavioral, educational, healthcare, human service, and criminal justice systems. This capstone examined the relationship between deficits in emotional intelligence and behavioral escalation among justice-involved populations, who frequently demonstrated challenges with emotional regulation, impulse control, aggression, and behavioral escalation. However, many correctional interventions, including traditional anger management programming, emphasized behavioral compliance rather than the underlying emotional processing deficiencies that contributed to these behaviors. This project synthesized existing peer-reviewed literature from psychology, criminology, forensic behavioral health, and correctional rehabilitation research to examine how low levels of emotional awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, and interpersonal functioning are associated with aggression, recidivism, and escalating behaviors.
