The content area was pharmacology for nurses, taught at the sophomore level in a 4-year program. A convenience sample consisted of 48 …
Acculturation, Self-Efficacy And Breastfeeding Behaviors In A Sample Of Hispanic Women, Ivonne F. Hernandez
Acculturation, Self-Efficacy And Breastfeeding Behaviors In A Sample Of Hispanic Women, Ivonne F. Hernandez
Dissertations
Breastfeeding confers immunological, physiological and psychological benefits for the infant and mother as well as social and economic benefits to the nation. The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Healthy People 2020 has established national objectives for the initiation and duration of breastfeeding at 82% initiation, 61% at six months and 34% at one year. In addition, they have set goals for exclusive breastfeeding at 3 months to be 46% and 25% at 6 months of infant's age. Currently breastfeeding initiation is at the highest recorded level of 76.9%, yet significant disparities exist (CDC, 2012). The purpose …
Breastfeeding Education In University Nursing Programs, Penny R. Marzalik
Breastfeeding Education In University Nursing Programs, Penny R. Marzalik
Dissertations
Past goals, future goals, and current statistics regarding breastfeeding rates in the United States support the need for university programs to address the topic of breastfeeding education. Currently, exclusive breastfeeding rates are 46.3% initiation and 17.2% continuation at 6 months of age, well below the goals of 75% initiation and 50% continuation. Nurses are the largest group of health care professionals, and research has shown that their care influences women's breastfeeding experience. The literature informs us that although nurses most often have positive attitudes towards breastfeeding, they lack knowledge about breastfeeding support.
The purpose of this study was to describe …

Cardozo Hosts Leading International Scholars And Advocates For “The Parthenon Marbles Case And The Universal Museum Myth: Policies And Politics”, Benjamin N. Cardozo School Of Law
Cardozo News 2022
On April 28th, the law school hosted a day-long symposium on the legal, ethical, and political dynamics surrounding one of the major cultural property disputes in the art world. Leading scholars, government ministers and cultural advocates discussed the arguments over the rightful ownership of the Parthenon Marbles, which were taken from Greece by England during the British Colonial period. Professor David Rudenstine’s decades-long research concluded that the statues should be returned to Greece, and his analysis provided the framework for much of the symposium.

Aerobic Exercise As A Pioneer Treatment For Post-Concussion Patients, Neha Bhandari
D.U.Quark
Concussions are highly prevalent injuries in both youth and adult sports and can severely impact daily functions by impairing mental and physical health. Existing treatments, such as resting, have been found to be ineffective in promoting a faster recovery. They often lead to a decline in mental health, which can exacerbate ongoing symptoms. However, aerobic exercise is an emerging field that has the potential to make concussion recovery more effective. This literature review will explore the effectiveness of aerobic exercise on faster recovery rates, return to play, and its impact at the cellular level for concussion patients. In addition, it …

Discovery Of Truffles (Tuber Species) In North Mississippi Pecan Orchards, Scout Hodges
Honors Theses
This thesis describes a study conducted in the years 2019-2022, which aimed to discover a new species of truffle in the state of Mississippi. Tuber lyonii, more commonly referred to as the “pecan truffle,” is an ectomycorrhizal fungus found on the roots of pecan trees in much of the southeastern region of the United States. Though there are many truffles native to the United States, the pecan truffle is one of the few that has been found to have high culinary value. Given the plethora of pecan orchards in the state of Mississippi, I decided to search for evidence …
Grabbing Consumers By The Ears: Exploring The Role Of Branded Podcasts In An Integrated Marketing Communications Strategy, Lilly Hamm
Honors Theses
Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC) is a framework for understanding how brands can meet consumer needs. Practitioners of IMC use an array of communication channels like marketing, advertising, sales, and public relations to build a consistent brand narrative, but they also recognize that strong marketing potential rests in the hands of the consumer. With the rapid advancement in new technology, IMC professionals are constantly looking for new ways to reach their targeted audience.
By 2016 and 2017, IMC practitioners began to notice the lack of ad clutter in the podcasting platform, leading them to flock to this channel to promote their …

What’S Religion Got To Do With It?: Differing Religiosity Domains’ Association With College Students’ Sexual Consent During First-Time Intercourse, Kaylee Richmond
Dissertations
Within the U.S., 36% of women and 17% of men report experiencing sexual assault (Smith et al., 2017). The absence of sexual consent is often regarded as a defining component of sexual assault (Beres, 2014); thus, a potential area to examine to decrease rates of perpetration and victimization. To date, there has been a lack of research on contextual factors that are likely related to sexual consent, with a general focus on external consent (i.e., verbal/behavioral indicators; Muehlenhard et al., 2016). The present study examined the role of a contextual factor, religiosity, on sexual consent processes during the context of …

Designing A Self-Regulating And Portable Heating Device For A Microfluidic Based Biosensor, Riya Mahajan
Discovery Undergraduate Interdisciplinary Research Internship
Paper-based biosensors are powerful microfluidic analytical devices that are potentially useful for a wide range of applications, ranging from medical diagnostics to agricultural and environmental monitoring. Molecular diagnostics have limitations because they need to send samples back to a centralized laboratory, which increases the cost and turnaround time of the test. This project aims to create a simple-to-use, low-cost, and portable heating system that would facilitate the creation of a field-deployable paper-based analytical device that can incubate the sample at elevated temperatures for conducting isothermal molecular assays. Our design aims to miniaturize a commercial water bath and will be fabricated …
Antagonizing Serotonin 2a (5-Ht2a) Receptors Does Not Attenuate Methamphetamine-Induced Expression Of Conditioned Place Preference In Female And Male Rats, Nicole C. Reyna
Psychology ETDs
Despite the need, there are currently no FDA-approved pharmacological treatments for methamphetamine use disorders. Cue-induced craving during drug withdrawal remains a significant contributor to high relapse rates. Thus, understanding the neurobiological mechanisms of cue-induced drug-seeking behavior is critical. Previous research indicates that the selective 5-HT2A antagonist M100907 attenuates the acquisition of methamphetamine-induced conditioned place preference (CPP) in male and female adult rats. The present study examines the effects of M100907 on expression of methamphetamine-induced drug-seeking behavior using a biased CPP design in adult male and female Long Evans rats (PND 95-112). During conditioning, rats were administered either saline or …
Network Specialization: A Topological Mechanism For The Emergence Of Cluster Synchronization, Ethan Walker
Network Specialization: A Topological Mechanism For The Emergence Of Cluster Synchronization, Ethan Walker
Theses and Dissertations
Real-world networks are dynamic in that both the state of the network components and the structure of the network (topology) change over time. Most studies regarding network evolution consider either one or the other of these types of network processes. Here we consider the interplay of the two, specifically, we consider how changes in network structure effect the dynamics of the network components. To model the growth of a network we use the specialization model known to produce many of the well-known features observed in real-world networks. We show that specialization results in a nontrivial equitable partition of the network …

Cost-Effective Use Of The Protein S Algorithm In Thrombophilia Testing, Marian A. Rollins-Raval, John V. Mitsios, Richard A. Marlar
Pathology Research and Scholarship
BACKGROUND: One of the most complex risk factors for the laboratory assessment of thrombophilia is Protein S (PS). The testing algorithm for PS employs the plasma-based assays of free PS antigen, total PS antigen, and PS activity creating a complex diagnostic scheme that can lead to misdiagnosis if incorrectly used, and a potential waste of resources and money.
CONTENT: This paper compares the recently published evidence-based algorithm from the International Society for Hemostasis and Thrombosis (ISTH) with several commonly performed nonevidence-based testing schemes, to demonstrate the efficiency of the evidence-based algorithm for diagnostic efficiency with improved patient care and increased …
