Utilizing The Multiple Intelligences Theory In Classrooms, Priscilla Wreede May 2022

Utilizing The Multiple Intelligences Theory In Classrooms, Priscilla Wreede

Graduate Teacher Education

Teachers have the seemingly impossible task of providing instruction that meets the needs of each learner in their classrooms. In their quest to provide quality instruction for all, many teachers have started to implement the Multiple Intelligences Theory into their lessons. Several studies have been analyzed to understand how intelligences can be identified and developed in students and how proper implementation of this theory can affect students’ motivational levels and academic achievement. The studies showed that when students are aware of their own strongest intelligences and/or their teachers are aware, they are able to develop the intelligences to a higher …

Investigation On Effects Of Avocado Extract As Eco-Friendly Inhibitor For 201 Stainless Steel Corrosion In Acidic Environment, H. M. Abdel-Ghafar, A F. Shoair, Mai M.A.H. Shanab, M.H.H. Mahmoud

Faculty Journal Articles

The inhibitory effect of using avocado extract (AE) on the corrosion of stainless steel type 201 (201SS) in 1M hydrochloric acid has been studied. Chemical tests such as mass loss test (ML) and electrochemical such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization (PP) were used in this investigation. The results of these approaches showed that as the concentration of AE extract increase, their adsorption on the 201SS surface increases, and therefore the corrosion process lower. The Langmiur isotherm was observed to represent the adsorption of this extract on the surface of 201-SS. The inhibitory efficiency percent (%IE) and activation …

Deep Phenotyping: Symptom Annotation Made Simple With Sams., Robin Steinhaus, Sebastian Proft, Evelyn Seelow, Tobias Schalau, Peter N Robinson, Dominik Seelow

Faculty Research 2022

Precision medicine needs precise phenotypes. The Human Phenotype Ontology (HPO) uses clinical signs instead of diagnoses and has become the standard annotation for patients' phenotypes when describing single gene disorders. Use of the HPO beyond human genetics is however still limited. With SAMS (Symptom Annotation Made Simple), we want to bring sign-based phenotyping to routine clinical care, to hospital patients as well as to outpatients. Our web-based application provides access to three widely used annotation systems: HPO, OMIM, Orphanet. Whilst data can be stored in our database, phenotypes can also be imported and exported as Global Alliance for Genomics and …

Comparing Intuitive Eating Behaviors Between Student Athletes And College Students Enrolled At The University Of Mississippi, Mary Mckennon Pierce

Honors Theses

Intuitive eating strives to consciously listen to the internal hunger and fullness cues our body provides, as humans often practiced long before counting calories and dieting existed. Rational thought, instinct, and emotion influence an intuitive eater’s decision-making and allow for full capability in navigating food decisions. While intuitive eating habits can benefit any individual, little research has compared the intuitive eating habits between collegiate students and student-athletes. measures unconditional permission to eat, eating for physical rather than emotional reasons, reliance on hunger and fullness cues, and body-food choice congruence. Student-athletes presented a significantly higher overall intuitive eating score (3.53±0.54, p=0.003) …

An Overview Of Barriers To Women In Engineering, Madison Karis May 2022

An Overview Of Barriers To Women In Engineering, Madison Karis

Honors Theses

Engineering remains a heavily male-dominated field despite ongoing efforts to increase diversity. Early experiences within the U.S. education system can strongly influence women’s choices to pursue engineering degrees. Many young students are introduced to engineering through pre-college programs, but these programs may give students an incomplete understanding of careers in engineering. Gender stereotyping and discrimination from teachers, counselors, and professors also strongly affect female students’ majors. Students may be led to believe certain misconceptions about engineering if their teachers have inaccurate perceptions about the field. Women in engineering also face workplace discrimination at a much higher rate than women in …

Interaction Beyond Nearest Neighbor In Periodic Structures, Sudesh Pathak May 2022

Interaction Beyond Nearest Neighbor In Periodic Structures, Sudesh Pathak

Honors Theses

Periodic structures have been of particular interest to researchers and engineers due to their interesting vibrational characteristics leading to applications, namely acoustic filters, and waveguides. Many studies on the interaction of nearest neighbors have been performed. However, such studies are insufficient to understand the variation of band gaps and the maximum number of wave vectors for each frequency. The complex band structure obtained from the interaction beyond nearest neighbors can assist in the development of sophisticated acoustic technologies. This paper primarily emphasizes the study of such interactions with the development of mathematical models based on electrostatic forces, supported by the …

Application Of The Formal Design Of Experiments To Deformed Airfoil Testing, Alex Ligman May 2022

Application Of The Formal Design Of Experiments To Deformed Airfoil Testing, Alex Ligman

Honors Theses

Traditionally, one factor at a time (OFAT) testing is used to accomplish wind tunnel
experimentation. OFAT testing is a process whereby one of the defined factors in the experiment is changed while all of the other factors are held constant. Afterwards, a new factor is chosen as the one to be manipulated, and the process is then repeated until all factors have been run through. Due to the possible cost-intensive and time-consuming nature of wind tunnel testing, formal design of experiments (DOE) has begun to be applied to wind tunnel experiments. In doing so, unique analyses can be made that …
