Designing Assessments, Theresa Tarves
Designing Assessments, Theresa Tarves
Teaching the Teachers Conference
Assessing student learning is imperative for ensuring that you are meeting your learning objectives and that students are meeting legal research competencies. Designing effective assessments can be a daunting task, particularly when you are new to teaching legal research and do not yet have an idea of what will work well for assessing your students. In this session, we will cover different types of formative and summative assessments, where to look for inspiration for designing assessments, evaluating whether an assessment is successful, and what do to when an assessment does not go as planned.
Climate Change, Information, Beliefs And Action: Can New Information Affect Swedes’ Climate Change Mitigation Efforts?, Martin Kihlstedt
Climate Change, Information, Beliefs And Action: Can New Information Affect Swedes’ Climate Change Mitigation Efforts?, Martin Kihlstedt
Undergraduate Economic Review
This study illuminates which beliefs drive climate mitigation efforts in the Swedish public and how they are affected by information. Using data gathered in an online experiment (n=372), this study finds that a range of beliefs predict Swedes’ climate mitigation efforts. Mainly, it finds that the impact of correcting misperceptions about either Sweden’s emissions or social norms is both varied and limited. Information about Sweden’s emissions has a negative impact on climate policy support. This effect is not fully explained by some respondents perceiving the information as lacking in credibility. Information about norms has a positive impact on respondents self-estimated …

Teaching the Teachers Conference
In this session we will introduce new instructors to an instructional design framework that they can use to structure courses, plan lessons, and engage in best practices for teaching. Backward design is an established pedagogical framework for developing lessons that prioritize essential learning objectives and measure student understanding. Together we will explore the creation and use of learning objectives, formative assessment, and lesson planning to foster an environment where students learn effectively and instructors can continually assess their teaching practices. Join us for this interactive workshop on adapting teaching using backward design.

One of the greatest and most substantial ways the PDE does this is through their grant funding efforts and programs they make available to eligible institutions and organizations. While they offer a variety of different grant opportunities to help students and learners throughout the state, the particular grants that the researchers focused on for review and analysis are the following: “It’s On …
Energy Portraits For Flute, Clarinet In B-Flat, Violin, Cello, Piano, And Percussion, Luis Solis
Energy Portraits For Flute, Clarinet In B-Flat, Violin, Cello, Piano, And Percussion, Luis Solis
Music Theses and Dissertations
Energy Portraits is a 25-minute work for flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano, and percussion based on the nine Enneagram personality types. The Enneagram system delves into underlying motivations and thought patterns of different people rather than only external behaviors, so this piece incorporates the typical overall energy of each number as a miniature portrait. The movements are not in the same order as the nine types from the Enneagram but are reordered and renamed for musical reasons. This allows the listeners who are not familiarized with the Enneagram to still understand the theme and energy of each movement.

Examining And Exploring Social Constructs, Conflict Management Style, And Workplace Conflict Among Workers In The United States, Keith Boyd
Dissertations
This mixed-methods study explored social constructs, conflict management style (CMS), and workplace conflict among workers in the United States. Workers do not understand the connections between social constructs, CMS, and workplace conflict. A lack of information on workers' experiences and representation in conflict literature supports the gap in understanding (Aquino, 2000; Bourdieu, 1986; Hayes, 2008; Herr & Anderson, 2005; Lin, 2001; Long, 2007; Meng et al., 2019; Mertens, 2003, 2009, 2018; Sosa, 2019). The study used a transformative-emancipatory explanatory sequential design focused on workers. There were 82 convenience sample participant surveys and 12 purposive sample low-level cooperativeness CMS participant interviews …
Constructing Roles And Discourse: Presidential Speech And European Union Accession In The Former Yugoslavia, 2000-2021, John Horner
Dissertations
Yugoslavia’s dissolution in the 1990s resulted in seven distinct nation-states vying for functional institutions, ethno-nationalistic coalescence, and external validation. To this end the European Union (EU) offered a pathway to nation-state building and membership via democratization, economic liberalization, and legal and civil improvements. However, to date only Slovenia (2004) and Croatia (2013) are EU member-states. Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia are candidate countries. Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo are potential candidates. What are the incentives for Western Balkan countries to reform and join the EU? Were motivations driven by rational, economic benefits of membership, or was the impetus identity-oriented to …
Examining Workplace Elearning Programs Using Persuasive Learning Design: A Hermeneutic Phenomenological Study, David Akanbi
Examining Workplace Elearning Programs Using Persuasive Learning Design: A Hermeneutic Phenomenological Study, David Akanbi
Dissertations
eLearning platforms have become the primary method for employee development in organizations (Dellagiacoma et al., 2020). This shift from the in-person approach has increased resources and budget allocation for authoring software applications needed to develop interactive eLearning programs (Kshirsagar et al., 2020). Despite spending a considerable amount of money on eLearning authoring software, there are concerns that most workplace eLearning programs do not achieve the desired outcomes (Jones, 2016; Patel, 2017; Sidhu, 2019). Although studies show that eLearning programs have effectively enhanced learning transfer, the same studies suggest that employees do not retain information in some eLearning programs (Dellagiacoma et …
Has The Philosophical Case For Animal Liberation Been Proved? A Systematic And Narrative Review Of The Philosophical Literature 1975-2020., Michael Morris
Has The Philosophical Case For Animal Liberation Been Proved? A Systematic And Narrative Review Of The Philosophical Literature 1975-2020., Michael Morris
Between the Species
I test the hypothesis proposed by Peter Singer that the philosophical case for animal liberation has been won, through a systematic review of papers published by philosophers between 1975 and 2020.
There was a slight but statistically significant correlation between support for an animal liberation vegan position, with year of publication. Support for a better treatment of animals than currently sanctioned by society increased significantly among papers discussing general principals of animal ethics.
Findings support a weaker version of Singer's hypothesis. Among the philosophical community there is greater support for animal liberation, but the debate has not been ‘won’.

Statistical Analyses Of Hemp Cannabinoid Test Results, Rachel J. Stegmeier
Statistical Analyses Of Hemp Cannabinoid Test Results, Rachel J. Stegmeier
Senior Honors Projects, 2020-current
Cannabis sativa L. is a flowering plant used for recreational and industrial purposes that produces a class of compounds called cannabinoids. Industrial hemp is a strain of Cannabis sativa L. that has been propagated to have a low Δ 9 tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9THC) and a high cannabidiol (CBD) content. With recent advancements in legislation, farms are now growing hemp for fiber, CBD production and other hemp derived product purposes but crops risk being destroyed if THC content levels exceed the current maximum legal limit of 0.3%. For the present study hemp samples were dried, ground, extracted with various alcohols, …
Assembly Of The Peripheral Arm Subunits Of Escherichia Coli Complex I And Analysis Of Clinical Mutations, Hind Alkhaldi
Assembly Of The Peripheral Arm Subunits Of Escherichia Coli Complex I And Analysis Of Clinical Mutations, Hind Alkhaldi
Biological Sciences Theses and Dissertations
Respiratory Complex I from E. coli is a proto-type of the mitochondrial enzyme, consisting of a 6-subunit peripheral arm (B-CD-E-F-G-I) and a 7-subunit membrane arm. When subunits E-F-G (N-module), were expressed alone they formed an active complex as determined by co-immunoprecipitation and native gel electrophoresis. When co-expressed with subunits B and CD, only a complex of E-F-G was found. When these five subunits were co-expressed with subunit I and two membrane subunits, A and H, a complex of B-CD-E-F-G-I was membrane-bound, constituting the N- and Q-modules. Assembly of Complex I was also followed by splitting the genes between two plasmids, …
Activation Of P53-Regulated Pro-Survival Signals And Hypoxia-Independent Mitochondrial Targeting Of Tigar By E6 Oncoproteins Of High-Risk Hpvs, Lacin Yapindi
Biological Sciences Theses and Dissertations
The high-risk human papillomaviruses are small, non-enveloped double-stranded DNA viruses that infect the basal epithelial keratinocytes. The majority of HPV infections are self-limiting and asymptomatic; however, in 2-4% of all infected individuals, persistent infections with high-risk HPVs lead to malignancies, including head-and-neck cancers and anogenital carcinomas, particularly cervical cancers. The HPV life cycle is strongly tied to the normal differentiation process of the epithelial tissue. Upon cell entry, the viral genome is maintained as episomal DNA within the nuclei of HPV-infected basal keratinocytes and amplified to a low copy number as the cells divide. As a part of the self-renewing …

Living A More Sustainable Lifestyle: Brand Recommendations And Product Reviews, Alison L. Kramer
Honors Capstones
While current studies are done on individual products, there isn’t a consolidated paper for consumers to use when purchasing everyday items. Consumers don’t have time to do research on things they buy weekly or even monthly. To understand what products are truly sustainable and good for the environment, consumers would have to spend hours researching what products or materials are better than what they currently buy. This paper outlines a set of criteria that will help consumers make informed decisions when it comes to buying everyday products. Consumers can also find a list of product recommendations in this paper.
