Cultural competence is understood as a necessary piece in providing mental health services (American Psychological Association, 2017), however little research has evaluated how conversations pertaining to culture occur during clinical supervision. This study is designed to examine the frequency, content, and predictors of cultural discussions in 631 clinical supervision sessions between 93 supervisor-therapist dyads. Using transcripts from school-based mental health services in California and South Carolina, descriptive analyses were applied to identify commonly used words informed by multicultural dictionaries and the ADDRESSING model. Amidst a growing interest in the field of Native American legal history, this article aims to bridge a gap in the scholarship between the colonial period and the United States’ nineteenth- and twentieth-century federal Indian Policy. By examining the terms presented in the lesser-known Treaty of Hartford, signed in 1638 following the Pequot War, it is demonstrated that many foundational legal precedents which reappeared in later centuries emerged much earlier than typically assumed. Spanish-speaking individuals face significant barriers to accessing linguistically appropriate mental health services. Language match between therapists and clients has been associated with positive impacts on the therapeutic process; however, little is known about how Spanish is used in youth therapy sessions or how therapeutic and demographic characteristics influence its use. Using 54 recorded Spanish-speaking therapy sessions from a randomized controlled trial of school-based mental health services in Los Angeles, California, this study sought to understand who participated in these sessions, how Spanish was used, and what predicted its use. PURPOSE: Whole-body vibration (WBV) is reported to be an effective training modality for increasing vertical jump height. However, the underlying mechanisms are unclear because limited studies have examined the effects of WBV on kinetic variables underling jump height. Research on inquiry-based learning (IBL) has largely focused on student achievement outcomes, with less attention given to how classroom social dynamics influence students’ motivational beliefs, particularly within rural educational contexts. Rural schools often operate within smaller, close-knit communities where interpersonal relationships may shape students’ academic experiences in distinctive ways. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between instructional practices, belonging, and students’ academic self-efficacy in rural inquiry-based learning environments. Using self-efficacy theory and belonging frameworks, the study investigated whether students’ perceptions of teacher and peer belonging mediated the relationship between instructional practices and perceived academic competence.

Georgetown is not and has never been the primary city on the South Carolina coast. Its harbor is shallow and muddy and its urban development lacks the commercial density found in more prominent Atlantic port cities such as New York, Boston, Philadelphia, and Charleston. Despite all indicators to the contrary, this marshy backwater outpost became the second richest port in the United States prior to 1850 through rice and indigo exportation. Vietnamese Americans are more likely than other Asian subgroups to identify as Republican. Despite this, Asian American youth, including Vietnamese Americans, still overwhelmingly identify with the Democratic Party. While political orientation could be a source of intergenerational conflict between Asian American generational groups, few studies assess these issues. The present study is an exploratory, hypothesis-generating study investigating the effect of affective polarization in politics on the relationship between intergenerational conflict and well-being for first-and-second-generation Vietnamese Americans. Results showed that affective polarization did act as a moderator for intergenerational conflict on perceived stress for both first-and-second-generation Vietnamese Americans. This project examines how SpaceX’s development of Starbase Boca Chica Beach in Brownsville, Texas, produces what I call desubjectified futures: the systematic transformation of residents from subjects who imagine and create futures into objects upon which futures are imposed. Drawing on five weeks of ethnographic fieldwork, including interviews with residents, environmental justice organizers, and members of the Carrizo/Comecrudo Tribe, I argue that SpaceX achieves hegemony not simply by manufacturing consent but through an ontological operation that strips communities of the capacity for collective self-determination before consent becomes meaningful.

Port-wine stains (PWS), clinically classified as capillary malformations (CM), are congenital vascular anomalies characterized by abnormally dilated dermal capillaries that persist throughout life and may progressively darken and thicken with age. Pulsed dye laser (PDL) therapy remains the clinical standard of care for PWS; however, complete lesion clearance is uncommon and many patients experience incomplete or temporary responses. While nominally appearing disparate in their construction, the theoretical systems pioneered by Russian Symbolist poet Viacheslav Ivanov and Swiss psychologist Carl Gustav Jung operate under parallel hermeneutics of inference concerning the symbolic comprehension of reality. This dichotomy is drawn between an immediate (conscious) stratum of sensible reality of Apollonian, concrete, individual, and intelligible forms, and a transcendent (unconscious) stratum of Dionysian, associative, collective, and nominally unintelligible forms. The first chapter studies the feedback effects in the loan market. Using the secondary market prices of syndicated loans, I find that information in loan prices has real effects on corporate investment decisions. For public firms, the sensitivity of capital expenditure to their loan price is significant, and this sensitivity is higher when loan prices are more informative. In making M&A decisions, public acquirers are less likely to withdraw a deal when their loan returns are higher. Without access to stock prices, private acquirers change their focus from their public peers’ valuations to their own loan prices as a direct …

Resting state imaging refers to low-frequency brain connectivity in the absence of task demands or directed thought patterns. The pathways included in this thesis are as follows: the nigrostriatal, mesolimbic, and mesocortical pathways.
