The UEM Socialisation Report provides an in-depth analysis of the early-stage engagement with the University Education Model (UEM) at TU Dublin, exploring how key stakeholders—including staff, students, and external partners—interpret and apply its 10 Guiding Principles. The report draws on inputs from 32 online events involving 235 participants, analysing the thematic contributions to identify four emergent themes: Connected, Learner-Centred, TU Dublin Enablers, and Graduate Employability. These themes, aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), highlight the need for an inclusive, student-focused, and flexible education model that enhances employability and fosters a sense of belonging. It Is Not A Boerhaave! A Case Of Spontaneous Pneumothorax, Imran Khan, Rukma R Govindu, Hussam Ammar

Spontaneous pneumothorax is a pneumothorax that is not caused by trauma or an apparent precipitating factor. This report presents a case of a 91-year-old man with no history of lung disease who developed pneumothorax after two days of persistent nausea and vomiting. He was misdiagnosed as a case of Boerhaave's syndrome. A chest computed tomography with iohexol oral contrast showed no evidence of esophageal rupture, and an upper endoscopy revealed a small gastric ulcer and no gastric outlet obstruction. The patient was managed conservatively; his spontaneous pneumothorax, nausea, and vomiting resolved.

This dissertation explores the origins of the language of drug addiction and drug control in the American hemisphere during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries by analyzing the intersection between the scientific study of race and eugenics and the cultural and political reaction to the Chinese global diaspora across the Pacific. I argue that Chinese immigrants perfectly embodied European "scientific" ideas of national or racial degeneration in the minds of scientific and medical elites while exemplifying the publicâ??s predominant stereotypes of addiction. Chinese immigrants became the first and perhaps most powerful symbol that intrinsically associated drug consumption with degeneracy. …

Aqueous amine-based technology has been considered the most promising carbon capture solution for post-combustion gas from fossil fuel plants. However, solvent degradation and the high energy cost associated with removing CO2 from the solvent, known as regeneration, have hindered its widespread implementation. It has been proposed that utilizing a water lean solvent, in contrast to aqueous amines, can decrease the required heat to regenerate the solvent. Additionally, Malhotra et al. proposed that controlling the viscosity can help increase the mass transport properties of CO2 in the solvent. This is an inquiry into the digital literacy readiness of students of First-Year Composition (FYC). Using mixed methods, an online survey and interviews, the study maps out the digital literacy skills of FYC students and accounts for the people and places that contributed to the students' acquisition of those skills. The goal of our laboratory is to study the mechanisms that promote nicotine use, particularly in vulnerable populations such as adolescents and females. Thus, the purpose of this thesis was to characterize age and sex differences in the motivational/rewarding effects of nicotine (Aim 1) and withdrawal behavior (Aim 2). To more closely model human use patterns, the present study employed nicotine vapor methods involving passive exposure for 14 days in adolescent and adult female and male rats. In this study, we investigated the role of attention for entrainment during production and comprehension using the discourse particle like. We tested two main hypotheses – that entrainment to discourse particles, even if relatively implicit, requires some attentional resources, versus that it requires little (if any) attention. In two experiments, participants read a short story and retold it (baseline retelling phase), then read another short story and listened to a recording of it (priming phase), and then read and retold a third story (target retelling phase). The document emphasises the importance of embedding HI education into the curriculum to support transformative learning experiences and align with TU Dublin’s strategic intent. Observations of 12CO J = 1 - 0 and HCN J = 1 - 0 emission from NGC 5194 (M51) made with the 50 m Large Millimeter Telescope and the SEQUOIA focal plane array are presented. Using the HCN-to-CO ratio, we examine the dense gas mass fraction over a range of environmental conditions within the galaxy. Within the disk, the dense gas mass fraction varies along the spiral arms but the average value over all spiral arms is comparable to the mean value of interarm regions. We suggest that the near-constant dense gas mass fraction throughout the disk arises from …

We report an Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array 0.88 mm (Band 7) continuum detection of the accretion disk around SR 12 c, an ∼11 M Jup planetary-mass companion (PMC) orbiting its host binary at 980 au. This is the first submillimeter detection of a circumplanetary disk around a wide PMC. The disk has a flux density of 127 ± 14 μJy and is not resolved by the ∼0.″1 beam, so the dust disk radius is likely less than 5 au and can be much smaller if the dust continuum is optically thick. If, however, the dust emission is optically thin, then …

We give a complete combinatorial characterization of all possible polarizations of powers of the graded maximal ideal (x₁,x₂,…,x_m)ⁿ of a polynomial ring in m variables. We also give a combinatorial description of the Alexander duals of such polarizations. In the three variable case m=3 and also in the power two case n=2 the descriptions are easily visualized and we show that every polarization defines a (shellable) simplicial ball. We give conjectures relating to topological properties and to algebraic geometry, in particular that any polarization of an Artinian monomial ideal defines a simplicial ball.

Networked control system (NCS) is a multidisciplinary area that attracts increasing attention today. In this paper, we deal with remote supervision of a nonlinear networked control systems class subject to network imperfections. Different from many existing researches that consider only the problem of small and/or constant communication delays, we focus on large and time-varying network delays problem in both measurement and control channels. The proposed method is a set-membership estimation-based predictor approach computing a guaranteed set of admissible state values when the uncertainties (i.e. measurement noises and system disturbances) are considered unknown but bounded with a priori known bounds.
