Vici Syndrome is a devastating genetic pediatric disorder with complex clinical phenotypes. Affected children exhibit profound developmental delay, seizures, hypotonia, immunodeficiency, cardiomyopathy, and progressive loss of motor function, with a median survival of 42 months. This recessive genetic disorder is caused by deleterious variants in the EPG5 locus. This gene encodes a critical component of the intracellular machinery which couples autophagocytic material to the lysosome for degradation. In the absence of EPG5 function, autophagy is impaired, resulting in selective and progressive neuronal and other cellular damage leading the complex phenotypes of Vici Syndrome. Hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to determine the utility of inflammatory markers in diagnosis and treatment of hand and wrist infections in the pediatric and adolescent population. It was hypothesized that there is a difference of inflammatory marker levels between superficial and deep hand/wrist infections at presentation and throughout the course of treatment.

Methods: This is a multicenter, retrospective cohort study included patients age 0-18 who received treatment for an acute hand or wrist infection between 2009 - 2020. The purpose of this research was to create a Culture of Assessment Instrument (Appendix F) that will allow education program provider (EPP) assessment leaders to measure the assessment culture within their program. General Systems Theory was the theoretical framework as the foundation of this research. Using a modified Delphi panel of assessment leaders, the researcher developed a valid Culture of Assessment Instrument (Appendix F). A key finding is that the instrument accurately reflects the culture of assessment, as evidenced in a pilot study. This qualitative study collected and analyzed the narratives of three alumni of a Midwest university who completed OPT in the manufacturing engineering field. Four themes were identified in the narratives. These themes were inextricable to the premise that OPT is a deeply appreciated opportunity for F-1 students. Long-chain alkylbenzenes are industrially synthesized precursors to commercial surfactants such as laundry detergent. The currently used catalysts in the processes of their synthesis are corrosive and harmful to the environment. These problems can be avoided utilizing heterogeneous highly acidic catalysts. Solid catalysts do not corrode equipment and are relatively simple to remove from the post-reaction mixture. Phosphotungstic acid (PTA) supported on silica gel could be a possible catalyst due to its high acidity with an estimated pKa ≈ -13. It is known that short chain volatile fatty acids (SCVFAs) are a byproduct of nutrient fermentation by gut microbiome. Astronomers do not have a complete picture of the effects of wide-binary companions (semimajor axes greater than 100 au) on the formation and evolution of exoplanets. We investigate these effects using new data from Gaia Early Data Release 3 and the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite mission to characterize wide-binary systems with transiting exoplanets. We identify a sample of 67 systems of transiting exoplanet candidates (with well-determined, edge-on orbital inclinations) that reside in wide visual binary systems. We derive limits on orbital parameters for the wide-binary systems and measure the minimum difference in orbital inclination between the binary and planet orbits. …

This chapter presents a case study where a Health Sciences Librarian and an Exercise Physiology Professor at an R1 University transformed two library instruction sessions into one graded online assignment. Successful student outcomes proved the asynchronous online method worth continuing for future courses regardless of class format.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and pilot a questionnaire examining the relationship between sensory defensiveness and coping strategies, as well as establish typical ratings for sensory defensiveness among the adult population. Methods: Through snowball sampling, 91 participants completed the Sensory Response Questionnaire containing 69 questions. Participants’ responses to questions concerning sensations and coping strategies in various situations indicated levels of sensory defensiveness. Levels of sensory defensiveness were determined by mean ratings: < 2 low sensory defensiveness (Low SD), 2-2.5 some sensory defensiveness (Some SD), > 2.5 moderate sensory defensiveness (Moderate SD). This study uses barbell strategies on the S&P 500 and the NASDAQ 100 to explore if funds invested primarily in fixed income assets with a portion of the investment placed in in-the-money call options can participate in upside potential, while also reducing risk. This study examines call options on the underlying indexes as well as their leveraged, 2x and 3x, counterparts. The barbell strategy studied, 88% in fixed income bonds and 12% in call options, does not have a higher return than the underlying index, and adds additional risk. Hypoxia is a significant low oxygen state that has complex and diverse impacts on organisms. In aerobes, various adaptive responses to hypoxia are observed that vary depending on the level of oxygen depletion and previous adaptation, hence the continued attention to hypoxia as an important abiotic stressor. Adaptive responses to hypoxia are primarily governed by the hypoxia-inducible factors (HIFs), which activate downstream genetic pathways responsible for oxygen transport and metabolic plasticity. In aquatic habitats, oxygen availability can vary greatly over time and space.
