Many diseases cause chronic and painful inflammation in different body systems. One of the front-line drug classes to treat such inflammation is Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs). Despite the benefits of oral administration of NSAIDs, there are drawbacks to their long-term usage because they can cause detrimental effects on off-target systems in the body such as the liver, kidney, or the lining of the intestinal tract. An alternative to NSAIDs is the usage of hydrogels for targeted drug delivery. Background: Deep South states, particularly Alabama, experience disproportionately higher opioid prescribing rates versus national rates. Considering limited opioid use disorder (OUD) providers in this region, collaborative efforts between non-healthcare professionals is critical in mitigating overdose mortality. The Alabama Opioid Training Institute (OTI) was created in 2019 to empower community members to take action in combatting OUD in local regions. The OTI included: 1) eight full-day in-person conferences; and 2) an interactive mobile-enabled website ( https://alabamaoti.org ). Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMOs) are abundant carbohydrates fundamental to infant health and development. Although these oligosaccharides were discovered more than half a century ago, their biosynthesis in the mammary gland remains largely uncharacterized. Here, we use a systems biology framework that integrates glycan and RNA expression data to construct an HMO biosynthetic network and predict glycosyltransferases involved. To accomplish this, we construct models describing the most likely pathways for the synthesis of the oligosaccharides accounting for >95% of the HMO content in human milk. Through our models, we propose candidate genes for elongation, branching, fucosylation, and sialylation of HMOs. Our …

On April 28th, the law school hosted a day-long symposium on the legal, ethical, and political dynamics surrounding one of the major cultural property disputes in the art world. Leading scholars, government ministers and cultural advocates discussed the arguments over the rightful ownership of the Parthenon Marbles, which were taken from Greece by England during the British Colonial period. Professor David Rudenstine’s decades-long research concluded that the statues should be returned to Greece, and his analysis provided the framework for much of the symposium.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most highly malignant tumors of the digestive tract. Both the incidence and death rate of pancreatic cancer have increased since 2000. The disease has a poor prognosis with a relative 5-year survival rate of 10%. Pancreatic cancer-related mortality can be mainly attributed to lack of early diagnosis, tumor metastasis, lack of effective treatment strategies and drug resistance. Comparative Analysis And Dynamic Response Of Abs Under Uv Light Degradation Using Shock Tube, Greer Lauber

The purpose of this study was to examine the dynamic response of acrylonitrile-butadlene-styrene (ABS) when exposed to UV light. Impact-Resistant Easy-to-Form ABS sheets were tested using a Shock Tube. Three samples were tested at no UV light exposure and three were tested after 15 days of being exposed to rapid UV degradation rays. All samples were tested at a shock wave equivalent to 400 psi. The results showed that the UV damaged samples experienced a decrease in strength and energy absorption in comparison to the non-UV damaged samples. The average peak load for the non-UV degraded was 1261.89 Newtons and …

The severity of cancer ranges depending on several factors, but it is one of the leading causes of death in approximately 60% of the world. In this study, I use a sample of twenty-one developed and developing countries to examine (1) the country-specific factors related to non-life insurance market development and (2) how factors differ between developed and developing countries. Insurance density, penetration, and total premiums were used as dependent variables to proxy for the insurance market while GDP, inflation, population, fuel exports, population growth, gender, population density, and legal system are used as country-specific independent variables. The primary purpose of this quantitative study was threefold: (1) to compare the effectiveness of two instructional methods of teaching on transferring problem solving; (2) to identify the effect a student's learning style has on problem solving; and (3) determine whether an interaction exists between each of two instructional methods and the student's learning style that effects the problem solving ability of beginning nursing students enrolled in a nursing pharmacology course in a four-year baccalaureate (B.S.N.) nursing program. Sepsis is present in one out of every three hospital deaths (CDC, 2020). Primary and time-sensitive interventions for sepsis include intravenous fluid and vasopressor administration for hemodynamic resuscitation, but inappropriate administration can lead to complications and poorer patient outcomes (Schmidt & Mandel, 2020). In the early stages of care, air medical transport clinicians frequently transport septic patients from small, rural hospitals to hospitals with higher levels of care. These clinicians could utilize inferior vena cava (IVC) ultrasound to guide optimal hemodynamic resuscitation. Therefore, an IVC ultrasound guideline was created for sepsis management during air medial transport to improve patient outcomes.

Galaxy populations show bimodality in a variety of properties: stellar mass, colour, specific star-formation rate, size, and Sérsic index. These parameters are our feature space. We use an existing sample of 7556 galaxies from the Galaxy and Mass Assembly (GAMA) survey, represented using five features and the K-means clustering technique, showed that the bimodalities are the manifestation of a more complex population structure, represented by between two and six clusters. Breastfeeding confers immunological, physiological and psychological benefits for the infant and mother as well as social and economic benefits to the nation. The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Healthy People 2020 has established national objectives for the initiation and duration of breastfeeding at 82% initiation, 61% at six months and 34% at one year. In addition, they have set goals for exclusive breastfeeding at 3 months to be 46% and 25% at 6 months of infant's age. Past goals, future goals, and current statistics regarding breastfeeding rates in the United States support the need for university programs to address the topic of breastfeeding education. Currently, exclusive breastfeeding rates are 46.3% initiation and 17.2% continuation at 6 months of age, well below the goals of 75% initiation and 50% continuation. Nurses are the largest group of health care professionals, and research has shown that their care influences women's breastfeeding experience. The literature informs us that although nurses most often have positive attitudes towards breastfeeding, they lack knowledge about breastfeeding support.

Hard red winter wheat (HRWW) is the largest wheat class grown in the United States, with approximately 660 million bushels produced in 2020, representing about 36% of total U.S. wheat production (USDA ERS 2021). The world market is an important destination for U.S. HRWW.
