Implementation Of A Tele-Triage Protocol In An Emergency Department Setting, Megan Tuetken, Sierra Hamlin, Sydney Spaulding

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Nationwide, the volume of emergency department (ED) visits has steadily increased over the last several decades. This steady increase in volume frequently causes ED crowding and considerable delays in patient evaluation and treatment. Recently, teletriage has been used in emergency departments to evaluate less emergent patient needs while freeing up in-house providers to care for more critical patients. The goal of this DNP project was to develop a protocol for the utilization of teletriage in an Emergency Department in a level 1 trauma center in central Illinois using nurse practitioners to assess patients in the waiting room and order appropriate …

Development Of The Chemistry Mindset Instrument (Chemi) For Use With Introductory Undergraduate Chemistry Students, Deborah L. Santos, Jack Barbera, Suazette R. Mooring

Chemistry Faculty Publications and Presentations

Chemistry education research has increasingly considered the role of affect when investigating chemistry learning environments over the past decade. Despite its popularity in educational spheres, mindset has been understudied from a chemistry-specific perspective. Mindset encompasses one's beliefs about the ability to change intelligence with effort and has been shown to be a domain-specific construct. For this reason, students’ mindset would be most relevant in chemistry if it were measured as a chemistry-specific construct. To date, no instrument has been developed for use in chemistry learning contexts. Here we present evidence supporting the development process and final product of a mindset …

Non-Archimedean Statistical Field Theory, Wilson A. Zuniga-Galindo

School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences Faculty Publications

We construct in a rigorous mathematical way interacting quantum field theories on a p-adic spacetime. The main result is the construction of a measure on a function space which allows a rigorous definition of the partition function. The advantage of the approach presented here is that all the perturbation calculations can be carried out in the standard way using functional derivatives, but in a mathematically rigorous way.

Too Perfect To Be Good? An Investigation Of Magicians’ Too Perfect Theory, Alice Pailhès, Kole Lee, Gustav Kuhn

School of Psychology

The “Too Perfect Theory” states that if a trick is too perfect, it might paradoxically become less impressive, or give away its secret method. This theory suggests that an increased impossibility results in a less magical effect. The Too Perfect Theory is often applied to magic effects, but it conflicts with recent scientific investigations showing that participants’ level of enjoyment of a magic performance is positively related to their perceived impossibility of the trick. The current article investigated whether an imperfect magic performance is more impressive than a perfect one. Across two experiments, we studied whether participants enjoy a performance …
