An Analysis Of How Nucleosomal Dna Patterns Influence Transcription Factor Binding Activities, Christopher Carson

Nucleosomal DNA has a well-documented periodic pattern known as Weak Weak/Strong Strong (WW/SS where W is A or T and S is G or C) in which WW dinucleotides preferentially occur at DNA sites that bend into minor grooves whereas SS dinucleotides are often found at sites that bend into major grooves. Recent studies found that an opposite pattern named the anti-WW/SS pattern runs inverse to the WW/SS pattern and is thought to have unfavorable histone-DNA interactions. The anti-WW/SS pattern is widespread in eukaryotic genomes and enriched in mammalian genes. Whether this unusual sequence pattern has an impact on the …

Objective.Accurate lung function assessment is essential for diagnosing and managing diseases like chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, pulmonary emboli, and lung cancer. Single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) provides valuable 3D functional imaging of ventilation and perfusion, but is limited by low spatial resolution, availability, additional radiation, and cost. Alternative methods, including CT-based perfusion (CT-P) and deep learning models, require large datasets to validate results that are often scarce. Pulmonary function tests (PFTs) offer rapid and noninvasive global lung function measures and are clinically widely used. Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) is an immune prothrombotic disorder characterized by the binding of platelet-activating immunoglobulin G antibodies to platelet factor 4/heparin. In platelets, this leads to cross-linking of the immunoreceptor tyrosine-based activation motif (ITAM)-bearing receptor FcγRIIa, platelet activation, and thrombocytopenia, which in combination with extensive thrombin generation significantly increases the risk of thrombosis. Our laboratory has previously demonstrated that 12-lipoxygenase (12-LOX), an oxygenase primarily expressed in platelets, plays a critical role in platelet activation through FcγRIIa. In 2025, over 7,000 individuals in Portland, Oregon experiencing unsheltered homelessness are without access to shelter or transitional housing. In this resource gap Operation Nightwatch (ON) provides material support for people experiencing homelessness (PEH) in the University District neighborhood of downtown Portland. This study focused on the experiences of chronically homeless guests of Nightwatch as they navigated homelessness and housing access. The study relied on semi-structured interviews with staff and guests and on-site participant observation to determine the availability of support to access housing in a system governed by Coordinated Access and the Housing First model. Aims: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may shorten life expectancy, but evidence for Asian populations and cause-specific mortality remains limited. The aim of this study is to investigate the association between PTSD and mortality risk in an Asian population.

Methods: We used Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database (2000-2022) to assemble a cohort of 28,777 individuals with incident PTSD and 115,108 age- and sex-matched unexposed individuals, plus a sibling cohort of 13,305 affected patients and 22,030 unaffected siblings. Background: Ketone bodies (KB) are endogenous energy sources synthesized by the liver in response to metabolic stress. Their associations with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), heart failure (HF), and mortality and their potential beneficial or harmful effects have yet to be determined. This study aimed to examine the association between KB and incident cardiovascular outcomes and mortality in a large general population cohort free from ASCVD and HF at baseline.

Methods: This analysis included 90 987 participants (mean age 56.4 ± 8.1 years; 54.7% women) from the UK Biobank without prevalent ASCVD or HF. KB were measured by nuclear magnetic resonance …

Background: Pulmonary function is linked to cardiovascular disease risk; however, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. We aimed to identify protein biomarkers associated with pulmonary function and examine their impact on incident chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, coronary heart disease, heart failure, and all-cause mortality.

Methods: Data from White and Black Americans in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities study (visit 2: N=11 354, mean age=57 years; visit 5: N=3517, mean age=75 years), a prospective cohort, were analyzed. Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

Problem: The Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU) at an academic medical center is experiencing an increase in critical events. The 2022 Safe and Reliable Healthcare Safety, Communication, Operational Reliability, and Engagement (SCORE) Survey revealed that this unit scored in the lowest percentile for burnout climate and over seventy percent of the nursing staff left in a span of six months. The staff feels this has resulted in a lack of guidance and a chaotic environment. Incident reports have also shown an increase in near-miss events.

Introduction: Robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) are rapidly reshaping hospitality by automating frontline and back-of-house processes, augmenting service encounters, and expanding the analytical scope of revenue management. Yet, existing research remains fragmented: service-robot studies largely emphasize adoption and human–robot interaction, while revenue-management research prioritizes pricing and distribution, sustainability research focuses on environmental practices, and hotel real-estate scholarship foregrounds governance and asset value. Meanwhile, blockchain technologies—through distributed ledgers, smart contracts, digital identity, and tokenization—offer a complementary trust and value-transfer layer that can address coordination and verification problems across hotel ecosystems (e.g., data sharing, sustainability claims, and owner–operator contracting).

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

The purpose of this study was to explore family caregiver perspectives on the barriers and facilitators to work-life balance while caring for adults with Parkinson’s Disease. A convergent mixed methods design was used. An adapted version of the Work-Life Conflict Model by Greenhaus and Beautell guided the study. Participants were recruited through Parkinson's Disease support groups. Formal, paid caregivers were excluded from the study. Forty family caregivers completed surveys such as the Work-Life Balance survey, Job Content Questionnaire, Zarit Burden Interview and other measures on stress, wellbeing, and quality of life.
