Machine Learning And Artificial Intelligence Methods For Cybersecurity Data Within The Aviation Ecosystem, Anna Baron Garcia
Machine Learning And Artificial Intelligence Methods For Cybersecurity Data Within The Aviation Ecosystem, Anna Baron Garcia
Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses
Aviation cybersecurity research has proven to be a complex topic due to the intricate nature of the aviation ecosystem. Over the last two decades, research has been centered on isolated modules of the entire aviation systems, and it has lacked the state-of-the-art tools (e.g. ML/AI methods) that other cybersecurity disciplines have leveraged in their fields. Security research in aviation in the last two decades has mainly focused on: (i) reverse engineering avionics and software certification; (ii) communications due to the rising new technologies of Software Defined Radios (SDRs); (iii) networking cybersecurity concerns such as the inter and intra connections of …
Understanding Unsteady Corner Separation Within Wing-Body Junction Flows, Paul G. Winner
Understanding Unsteady Corner Separation Within Wing-Body Junction Flows, Paul G. Winner
Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses
Wing-body junction flows, formed at the interface between a wing and fuselage surface, are a complex, coupled, three-dimensional, turbulent flow field. This thesis focused on the unsteady corner separation that develops at the trailing edge of this wing-body junction under certain conditions. A NACA 0015 wing mounted on a flat plate at an angle of attack of 13°was used as the model junction flow field. The wing had an aspect ratio of 8 with a linear washout twist of 15°. The Reynolds number based on the wing chord was Rec = 4.5 × 105. Time-dependent stereoscopic particle …
Machine Learning To Predict Warhead Fragmentation In-Flight Behavior From Static Data, Katharine Larsen
Machine Learning To Predict Warhead Fragmentation In-Flight Behavior From Static Data, Katharine Larsen
Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses
Accurate characterization of fragment fly-out properties from high-speed warhead detonations is essential for estimation of collateral damage and lethality for a given weapon. Real warhead dynamic detonation tests are rare, costly, and often unrealizable with current technology, leaving fragmentation experiments limited to static arena tests and numerical simulations. Stereoscopic imaging techniques can now provide static arena tests with time-dependent tracks of individual fragments, each with characteristics such as fragment IDs and their respective position vector. Simulation methods can account for the dynamic case but can exclude relevant dynamics experienced in real-life warhead detonations. This research leverages machine learning methodologies to …

Conversational Agents (CAs) powered with deep language models (DLMs) have shown tremendous promise in the domain of mental health. Prominently, the CAs have been used to provide informational or therapeutic services (e.g., cognitive behavioral therapy) to patients. However, the utility of CAs to assist in mental health triaging has not been explored in the existing work as it requires a controlled generation of follow-up questions (FQs), which are often initiated and guided by the mental health professionals (MHPs) in clinical settings. In the context of `depression', our experiments show that DLMs coupled with process knowledge in a mental health questionnaire …

Copper slag (CS), a by-product of copper smelting, is normally stockpiled, leading to wastes of resource and space as well as environment pollution. It has not been massively reutilized as a supplementary cementitious material in Portland cement due to its low reactivity. In the present study, CS is for the first time utilized as the base component to prepare an iron phosphate cement (IPC) by reacting with ammonium dihydrogen phosphate (ADP) at room temperature. The influence of the raw materials mass ratio (CS/ADP) on the microstructure and performance of IPC pastes are investigated. It is found that the compressive strength …

Distributed generation (DG) refers to small-scale generation resources that are located at or near end-consumers, such as photovoltaic (PV) solar systems. DG systems have become increasingly popular in recent years owing to their economic efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. However, the increasing adoption of DG is creating new obstacles for system operators due to the uncertainty in forecasting future demand. One concern is the possibility of facing a utility death spiral as a feedback loop between, on the one hand, the increasing adoption of DG and increasing electricity rates to cover generation and transmission overheads with, on the other hand, reduced …

Analysis Of Traffic Crash Data In Kentucky 2017-2021, Paul Ross, Eric Green, Christopher Blackden, Christopehr Van Dyke, Michael Fields, Riana Tanzen
Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report
Each year the Kentucky Transportation Center publishes Analysis of Traffic Crash Data in Kentucky, a report that reviews state-level crash data from the previous five years. This report summarizes crash data for 2017 through 2021. In addition to presenting a review of crash data, the report also contains safety performance functions (SPFs) for nine roadway types. Because SPFs were derived using 2017-2021 data, the models predict crashes for a five-year period. Users must adjust the model by adding a coefficient of 1/5 to models to avoid overestimating crashes by a factor of five.

Law reform in the United States often reflects a structural bias that advances narrow business interests without addressing broader public interest concerns.' This bias may appear by omitting protective language in laws or regulations which address a subject matter area, such as permitting the testing of highly automated vehicles ("HA Vs") on public roads, while omitting a requirement for a reasonable level of insurance as a condition to obtain a testing permit.2 This Article explores certain social and economic justice implications of laws and regulations governing the design, testing, manufacture, and deployment of HA Vs which might advance a business …

Superficial Solitary Fibrous Tumor Masquerading As A Dermoid Cyst: A Case Report, Michael Foss, Charles Dunn, Etan Marks, Rajiv Nathoo
GME Publications
Background: Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are relatively rare spindle cell neoplasms uncommonly seen in dermatology practice. Initially discovered as a pleural tumor, SFTs have also been found in extra-pleural sites including the skin and soft tissues. When arising within the dermis or subcutis they are termed superficial SFTs, where they often present as solitary, unilateral, slow growing superficial masses. Histologically, they are composed of spindle cells arranged in a "patternless" pattern with hemangiopericytoma-like vessels dispersed throughout. Historically, CD34, CD99 and Bcl-2 immunohistochemical (IHC) stains were used to differentiate SFTs from other spindle cell neoplasms, however these markers are not entirely …

Objectives: To evaluate the analgesic efficacy of intraoperative dexmedetomidine (DEX) for acute postoperative pain in colorectal cancer patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data of 190 colorectal cancer patients who had undergone laparoscopic surgery between October 2020 and May 2021 at Samsung Medical Center, Seoul, Korea, with (n=74) or without intraoperative DEX (n=85) administration. The demographic, clinical, anesthetic, and postoperative data were compared. Results: In total, 159 patients were enrolled. Demographic and clinical data were not different between the groups. The mean arterial pressure ( p <0.001) and heart rate ( p <0.001) were lower in the DEX group at the end of surgery and after extubation ( p =0.003, p =0.001). The minimum alveolar concentration of sevoflurane was lower in the DEX group during surgery. At the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) admission and discharge, pain scores ( p <0.001, p =0.027) and fentanyl consumption ( p <0.001) were significantly lower in the DEX group. On postoperative days 1-3, pain scores and opioid consumption were not different between the groups. The incidence of postoperative complications was not different between the groups. Conclusion: Continuous intraoperative DEX administration had an intraoperative analgesic effect as indicated by lower hemodynamic and fentanyl consumption. Furthermore, there was immediate postoperative analgesia as suspected by the lower pain scores and fentanyl dose during the PACU. However, pain scores and opioid consumption after the PACU remained unaffected.

Objectives: To investigate the effect of thoracolumbar interfacial plane block (TLIP) on analgesic consumption and pain score in vertebral surgery. Methods: All patients (64 patients undergoing vertebral surgery) were randomly allocated as Group T (patients with block, n=32) and Group C (patients without block, n=32). After surgery, patient-controlled analgesia using tramadol was administered to all patients. Pain intensity was evaluated with visual analogue scale (VAS; recovery room at 1, 2, 6, 12, and 24 hours postoperative), and as rescue analgesia, morphine was administered to patients with VAS scores of >4. In this study, total tramadol consumption, the number of patients …
