Distributed Fault-Tolerant Ephemeris Synchronization (Dftes) For Autonomous Satellite Constellations, Volodymyr Kotegov Aug 2026

Distributed Fault-Tolerant Ephemeris Synchronization (Dftes) For Autonomous Satellite Constellations, Volodymyr Kotegov

Defensive Publications Series

Large satellite constellations need continuous, high-precision knowledge of every node’s position and velocity to keep cross-links aligned and to perform collision-avoidance manoeuvres. Dependence on ground-based space situational awareness or GNSS creates a single point of failure that can be jammed, denied or simply out of contact.

This paper describes a fully decentralized software architecture that lets a constellation maintain a consistent ephemeris map using only inter-satellite links. Each satellite runs a local orbital propagator and keeps a state matrix for the whole constellation. When two nodes establish a link they exchange compact state vectors together with an explicit Epistemic Confidence …

Eclipse-Phase Passive Preprocessing With Graphene Thermal Structures (Epp-Gts) For Low-Earth-Orbit Sensor Satellites, Volodymyr Kotegov Aug 2026

Eclipse-Phase Passive Preprocessing With Graphene Thermal Structures (Epp-Gts) For Low-Earth-Orbit Sensor Satellites, Volodymyr Kotegov

Defensive Publications Series

High-resolution Earth-observation satellites in low Earth orbit generate large raw data volumes that require substantial onboard computing for feature extraction, compression and filtering. Performing this work during the sunlit portion of the orbit adds heat and power load at the same time that solar arrays, sensors and transmitters are already active.

This paper describes a practical architecture that moves the heavy preprocessing entirely into the eclipse phase. Raw sensor data are buffered in non-volatile memory while the satellite is in sunlight. Once the spacecraft enters Earth’s shadow the compute cluster is powered from a dedicated lithium-iron-phosphate battery bank sized for …

Chip-Based Physical Gift Card Redemption, Ravi Lakkaraju, Erik Duymelinck, Teruhisa Haruguchi Aug 2026

Chip-Based Physical Gift Card Redemption, Ravi Lakkaraju, Erik Duymelinck, Teruhisa Haruguchi

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure describes a new approach to redeeming physical gift cards—also known as physical gift vouchers or gift certificates—using chip-based redemption technology to prevent common scams. Traditional gift cards rely on scratch-off private PINs, making them highly vulnerable to physical tampering and victim-assisted scams. To solve this, the proposed chip-based redemption system embeds a radio frequency identification (RFID) or near field communication (NFC) chip directly into the physical gift card. Instead of manually typing a code, a user simply taps the card against a tap-enabled computing device for a quick, touchless transaction. The embedded chip securely stores the card’s private …

Context Aware Wlan To Cellular Handover Via Sensor Fusion And Local Footprint Database, Xuqiang Zhang, Yingqun Yu, Saket Patkar, Roy Lin Aug 2026

Context Aware Wlan To Cellular Handover Via Sensor Fusion And Local Footprint Database, Xuqiang Zhang, Yingqun Yu, Saket Patkar, Roy Lin

Defensive Publications Series

Data stalls and dropped communication sessions can occur when a mobile device transitions from a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) to a cellular network in environments with abrupt signal degradation, such as elevators. The disclosed system resolves this limitation by configuring network handover parameters prior to signal loss. Based on environmental detection using hardware sensors or historical network stability metrics retrieved from a local footprint database, an Application Processor (AP) framework sets a shorter hysteresis timer and a lower WLAN signal strength threshold. When a rapid WLAN signal drop is subsequently detected, the user equipment quickly switches the data connection …

Enhanced Code Reviews Through Intelligent Code Diff Ordering And Tagging, Florent Garit, Sindhuja Manickam, Rohan Pandey, Adrian Henle, Ahrenn Sivananthan, Akila Rajesh, Gaurav Tungatkar, Laurentino Sbors Neto, Lulu Bai, Michael Tran, Prakhar Tiwari

Defensive Publications Series

As more code is generated, much of it using artificial intelligence (AI), human code reviews are increasingly critical. Traditional code-review tools provide a description, comments, and a flat code diff but little guidance about review order or attention. This proposal introduces a system that guides a code reviewer by organizing a pull request (PR) as a "story," making it easier to build mental context while keeping the reviewer in control.

Privacy-Preserving Standard Communication With Network Elements (Scone) Hint Tokens For Traffic Classification, Authorization, And Central Processing Unit (Cpu) Reduction, Dennis Lanov Aug 2026

Privacy-Preserving Standard Communication With Network Elements (Scone) Hint Tokens For Traffic Classification, Authorization, And Central Processing Unit (Cpu) Reduction, Dennis Lanov

Defensive Publications Series

A technique is proposed herein for privacy-preserving Standard Communication with Network Elements (SCONE) hint tokens that allow trusted policy systems to pre-authorize and classify encrypted Quick UDP Internet Connections (QUIC) traffic without exposing user identity or raw policy details. A token carries only coarse, non-identifying attributes such as traffic class, entitlement level, validity, and flow binding, allowing downstream SCONE-capable network elements to verify the token quickly and generate appropriate throughput advice. By replacing repeated deep classification and policy lookups with lightweight token verification, the technique reduces central processing unit (CPU) load and improves operational scalability across enterprise, wireless-access, mobile, and …

Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya

There is substantial evidence of an association between traumatic brain injury (TBI) and language difficulties, particularly those related to cognitive impairment. Addressing an underexplored narrative perspective, this study examines the interaction between memory and language in the representation of cognitive-communication disorder (CCD) following TBI in the film The Vow (2012). Using a qualitative approach informed by Clinical Discourse Analysis (CDA), the study analyzes selected dialogues to identify post-traumatic cognitive-communication difficulties reflected in language comprehension and production. The findings reveal a dissociation between relatively preserved linguistic competence and impaired communicative performance. In language comprehension, this dissociation is reflected in pragmatic misinterpretation, …

Fabrication Of Photoresist Su-8 Pyrolyzed Carbon Electrodes And Their Integration In A Microfluidic Hematocrit Detection System, Hwi Yong Lee, Jessika A. Rogers, Chito Kendrick, Sanaz Habibi, Adrienne Minerick Aug 2026

Fabrication Of Photoresist Su-8 Pyrolyzed Carbon Electrodes And Their Integration In A Microfluidic Hematocrit Detection System, Hwi Yong Lee, Jessika A. Rogers, Chito Kendrick, Sanaz Habibi, Adrienne Minerick

Michigan Tech Publications

Carbon microelectrodes are attractive for microfluidic biosensing due to their wide potential window, low overpotentials, chemical stability, and compatibility with low-cost microfabrication. Pyrolysis of photopatterned SU-8 offers a scalable route to carbon electrode fabrication; however, conventional two-step pyrolysis often leads to adhesion issues, geometric distortion, and limited surface area in low-aspect-ratio planar designs. These constraints restrict performance and broader adoption in analytical microdevices. Hematocrit determination, a clinically essential diagnostic measurement, requires electrodes with high reproducibility and robust electrochemical response. A simplified fabrication strategy that improves electrode surface area and performance while maintaining low-aspect-ratio planar geometries remains unresolved. We developed a …

This Court should consider those most directly impacted by the decision in this case: the intended beneficiaries of Colorado’s Universal Preschool Program (“UPK”), Colorado’s children. To paraphrase Shakespeare, though they be but little, they are constitutional rights-bearers and are thus entitled to be free from state-funded discrimination.

Amici are scholars of children and the law, education law, family law, and anti-discrimination law. Amici draw this Court’s attention to the significant harms children in the LGBT community would bear should Colorado be compelled to allow state-funded religious schools to discriminate against preschoolers. Exempting religious schools from the State’s equal-opportunity and antidiscrimination …

Fluency First: Building A Stronger Tier 2 Reading Intervention, Rachel Bernier Aug 2026

Fluency First: Building A Stronger Tier 2 Reading Intervention, Rachel Bernier

Masters Projects

The percentage of fourth grade students reading below grade level is significant and relatively unchanged and Tier 2 fluency intervention could be doing more to target the gaps in at-risk readers’ fluency instruction. This growth could impact their ability to perform across subject areas as it is indicated in research that increasing reading fluency can also improve reading comprehension. This paper examines research through a literature review of theory and journal articles that support that Tier 2 intervention can be effective, when it is aligned with Tier 1 instruction and structured around direct instruction in phonics and word recognition, and …

Colloidal noble metal nanoparticles are of extreme interest as nanomaterials and for the wide variety of their possible applications in nanomedicine. The unique linear and nonlinear optical processes associated with these nanomaterials can be studied using a variety of spectroscopic techniques including extinction, second harmonic generation (SHG), and two-photon fluorescence (TPF) spectroscopy. In order to better understand and optimize these nanomaterials for their desired applications, it is important to investigate the growth and photophysical dynamics associated with gold nanoparticles, silver-gold core-shell (Ag-Au CS) nanoparticles, and gold-silver-gold core-shell-shell (Au-Ag-Au CSS) nanoparticles in addition to how their size, surface morphology, composition. and …

Design And Development Of A Miniaturized Helmholtz Cage For Cubesat Adcs Testing, Karla Sever, Marko Bosiljevac Aug 2026

Design And Development Of A Miniaturized Helmholtz Cage For Cubesat Adcs Testing, Karla Sever, Marko Bosiljevac

Small Satellite Conference

  • Magnetic field generation is essential for laboratory testing of a CubeSat attitude determination and control system (ADCS). It supports repeatable evaluation of control algorithms and characterization of onboard magnetometers. Commercial systems are costly, so university labs typically build their own, tailored to their specific needs.
  • Building on a review of over twenty university-developed Helmholtz cage designs, several of which were particularly influential to our own design [1-3], this poster presents the design, simulation and early experimental results of our Helmholtz cage, developed as part of the broader ADCS test setup we have been building.
