Storytelling And Leadership In The Deaf Community, Luane Davis Haggerty
Storytelling And Leadership In The Deaf Community, Luane Davis Haggerty
JADARA
This article addresses a gap in scholarship on leadership styles in the Deaf community. There is an invisible style of leadership differing from the mainstream culture that has not been previously addressed in the literature at any depth. This article was intended to begin a discussion addressing this gap. My analysis of literature in the leadership fields, Deaf Studies and Performance Studies indicates a unique style of leadership by Deaf people within a Deaf community that is collaborative in nature yet values the individual. Further studies into Deaf leadership are warranted and may help to uncover this "collective individualist" approach …
A History Of The Rehabilitation Services Administration (Rsa) Support Of Interpreter Education, Linda K. Stauffer
A History Of The Rehabilitation Services Administration (Rsa) Support Of Interpreter Education, Linda K. Stauffer
JADARA
In 1978, Congress passed the Rehabilitation, Comprehensive Services, and Developmental Disabilities Amendments (RL. 95-602). These amendments to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 authorized federal grants to states to fund interpreter training programs. Based on that legislation, in1980, the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) began funding regional and national interpreter training projects and has done so continuously to the present. The history of the inclusion of interpreter training language in the 1978 Amendments can be traced to influential leaders in the field of rehabilitation of persons who are deaf or hard of hearing. Their collaboration, relationship with supportive Congressional legislators and staff, …

Best Neural Network Approximation By Using Bernstein Polynomials With Grnn Learning Application, Hawraa Abbas Almurieb, Anwar Anwer Hamody
Best Neural Network Approximation By Using Bernstein Polynomials With Grnn Learning Application, Hawraa Abbas Almurieb, Anwar Anwer Hamody
Al-Bahir
Bernstein polynomials are one of the first and main tools for function approximation. On the other hand, neural networks have many useful applications in approximation and other fields as well. In this paper, we study how we benefit from properties of Bernstein polynomials to define a new version of neural networks, that can be fit approximating functions in terms of modulus of continuity. Numerically, we use neural networks to approximate some types of continuous functions. For that purpose, we use GRNN algorithm to approximate functions uniformly by using Matlab, giving some examples that confirm good rate approximation.

Kizuna: Bonds Beyond Incarceration (Summer 2022)
On December 7, 1941 Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, escalating pre-existing racist views towards Japanese immigrants and Japanese American citizens. The “yellow peril” concept, accusing Japanese Americans of threatening the “white race”, led to restrictive immigration, naturalization, and property ownership laws. On February 19, 1942, Executive Order 9066 tore 122,000 Japanese Americans, including 55 University of the Pacific students, from the lives they knew. Their stories enlighten us about this tragedy and the strength needed to endure it.

Parasol: Efficient Parallel Synthesis Of Large Model Spaces, Clay Stevens, Hamid Bagheri
School of Computing: Conference and Workshop Papers
Formal analysis is an invaluable tool for software engineers, yet state-of-the-art formal analysis techniques suffer from well-known limitations in terms of scalability. In particular, some software design domains—such as tradeoff analysis and security analysis—require systematic exploration of potentially huge model spaces, which further exacerbates the problem. Despite this present and urgent challenge, few techniques exist to support the systematic exploration of large model spaces. This paper introduces Parasol, an approach and accompanying tool suite, to improve the scalability of large-scale formal model space exploration. Parasol presents a novel parallel model space synthesis approach, backed with unsupervised learning to automatically derive …

Climate And Genetic Data Enhancement Using Deep Learning Analytics To Improve Maize Yield Predictability, Parisa Sarzaeim, Francisco Muñoz-Arriola, Diego Jarquin
Department of Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering: Faculty Publications
Despite efforts to collect genomics and phenomics (“omics”) and environmental data, spatiotemporal availability and access to digital resources still limit our ability to predict plants’ response to changes in climate. Our goal is to quantify the improvement in the predictability of maize yields by enhancing climate data. Large-scale experiments such as the Genomes to Fields (G2F) are an opportunity to provide access to “omics” and climate data. Here, the objectives are to: (i) improve the G2F “omics” and environmental database by reducing the gaps of climate data using deep neural networks; (ii) estimate the contribution of climate and genetic database …

Isc10, An Inhibitor Of The Smk1 Mapk, Prevents Activation Loop Autophosphorylation And Substrate Phosphorylation Through Separate Mechanisms, Abhimannyu Rimal, Thomas M Swayne, Zeal P Kamdar, Madison A Tewey, Edward Winter
Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Faculty Papers
Many eukaryotic protein kinases are activated by the intramolecular autophosphorylation of activation loop residues. Smk1 is a meiosis-specific mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) in yeast that autophosphorylates its activation loop tyrosine and thereby upregulates catalytic output. This reaction is controlled by an inhibitor, Isc10, that binds the MAPK during meiosis I and an activator, Ssp2, that binds Smk1/Isc10 during meiosis II. Upon completion of the meiotic divisions, Isc10 is degraded, and Smk1 undergoes autophosphorylation to generate the high activity form of the MAPK that controls spore formation. How Isc10 inhibits Smk1 is not clear. Here, we use a bacterial coexpression/reconstitution system …

Simple Summary
In primates, prolactin (PRL) is expressed in the pituitary gland; however, the extra-pituitary expression has been reported, including in the eye. The baboon is an excellent animal model for understanding the possible role of this hormone in the eye. The objective of this study was to detect PRL and its receptor expression in the eye tissues of fetal and adult baboons. Moreover, we performed PRL gene sequencing and a phylogenetic analysis to identify the evolutionary divergence in human and primate genes of PRL. We detected PRL and PRLR expression in all retinal cell lineages in fetal and adult …A New Statistical Model For Longitudinal Ecological Momentary Assessment Data On Dual Use Of Electronic And Combustible Cigarettes, James Yang, Jacky Kuo, Wei-Chung Su, Douglas E Jorenby, Megan E Piper, Anne Buu

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a complex and pivotal process involved in organogenesis and is related to several pathological processes, including cancer and fibrosis. During heart development, EMT mediates the conversion of epicardial cells into vascular smooth muscle cells and cardiac interstitial fibroblasts. Here, we show that the oncogenic transcription factor EB (TFEB) is a key regulator of EMT in epicardial cells and that its genetic overexpression in mouse epicardium is lethal due to heart defects linked to impaired EMT. TFEB specifically orchestrates the EMT-promoting function of transforming growth factor (TGF) β, and this effect results from activated transcription of thymine-guanine-interacting …

Background: Obstetric fistula used as synonymous with VVF in this study, is an abnormal communication/hole between the urinary tract and the genital tract or the gastrointestinal tract and the genital tract, resulting from prolonged obstructed labour. VVF may cause sufferers to experience chronic urinary/faecal incontinence, and the stigma of continuing foul odour. VVF is primarily caused by prolonged obstructed labour, which is brought about by a range of causes. Recently, it has been proposed that women’s groups and fistula survivors should suggest interventions to reduce or prevent the incidence of obstetric fistula. Objective: The objective of this review was to …
