Relief wells can provide water resources and help reduce the severity and extent of waterlogging and salinity caused by leaky artesian systems.

A relief well is a 'free flowing' groundwater bore driven by artesian pressure. Such a bore allows groundwater to flow continuously up to the surface by releasing confined pressure stored within the aquifer at depth. This confined artesian pressure is renewed by a percentage of rainfall that infiltrates the soil profile at a higher elevation and recharges aquifers that may be a source of water for a saline seep.

The Effects On Gait Of 4-Wheeled Walker Use In People With Alzheimer's Disease Dementia And Gait Impairment: A Pilot Study, Humberto Omaña, Edward Madou, Susan W. Hunter

In people with dementia, provision of mobility aids is standard treatment for those with impaired gait. However, mobility aid use is independently associated with increased falls risk. In this short communication, gait velocity and stride time variability were recorded in eleven adults with Alzheimer's disease dementia. Three conditions were tested: single-task (no aid), walking with a walker, and dual-task (walker use and counting backwards) under both a straight path and Figure-of-8 walking configuration. Gait velocity increased when using a walker compared to no aid in the Figure-of-8 walking configuration. Walker use improved gait in simple walking, but benefits diminished upon …

My department head at the time was assigned with providing copyright assistance. I seized the opportunity to learn more while I searched for a position that required my degree. I was supported while pursuing continuing education in copyright. I was also given increasing responsibilities that I suspected were beyond my rank. Transcription factor RUNX1 is a master regulator of hematopoiesis and megakaryopoiesis. RUNX1 haplodeficiency (RHD) is associated with thrombocytopenia and platelet granule deficiencies and dysfunction. Platelet profiling of our study patient with RHD showed decreased expression of RAB31, a small GTPase whose cell biology in megakaryocytes (MKs)/platelets is unknown. Platelet RAB31 messenger RNA was decreased in the index patient and in 2 additional patients with RHD. Promoter-reporter studies using phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate-treated megakaryocytic human erythroleukemia cells revealed that RUNX1 regulates RAB31 via binding to its promoter. Siphons are a way of passively moving water from areas of higher hydraulic head to areas of lower hydraulic head, through a pipe. Siphons can be used to lower the watertable under a seepage site if the flow from the siphon (or multiple siphons) is greater than the flow of groundwater to the site. Siphons can reduce surface salt levels at the seepage, but the discharge needs to be to a safe disposal site.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development recommends that siphons are used as part of an integrated water and salinity management program.

With the success of the virtual poster displays created by the library typically aligning with national themes and celebrations, we decided to create a virtual poster display for Constitution Day. Our Constitution Day posters cover a variety of formats as well as subjects including the ideologies of U.S. founding fathers, women in the American Revolution, constitutional ratifications over time, and implications of constitutional law on minorities. As a Hispanic Serving Institution, we created a slide to highlight and celebrate the first Hispanic U.S. Supreme Court Justice, Sonia Sotomayor. Extraction Of Mulberry Polysaccharide By Ultrasonic Cell Crusher-Assisting And Its Antioxidant Activity Analysis, Zhang Qiu-Hong

Objective:The cell crusher-assisted hot water extraction and antioxidant activity of mulberry polysaccharide were investigated. Methods:Extraction time, solid-liquid ratio, ultrasonic time, ultrasonic power and extraction temperature were used as the test conditions, the optimum extraction conditions of mulberry polysaccharide were investigated by four factors and three levels of orthogonal test. The antioxidant capacity of mulberry polysaccharide was determined by comparing the scavenging rates of VC and mulberry polysaccharide to DPPH· and hydroxyl radical (·OH). Results: The results showed that the highest yield of mulberry polysaccharide was (6.63±0.07)%, when the extraction time was 30 min,the ultrasonic power was 160 W, …
