A New Class Of Life Distribution Based On Laplace Transform And It’S Applications, S. E. Abu-Youssef, A. A. El-Toony

Information Sciences Letters

Based on the approach of Laplace transform, a new class of life distributions called used better than aged in increasing concave denoted by (UBAC(2)L) is introduced. The implication of our proposed class of life distribution with other classes is given. Some properties of UBAC(2)L class of life distribution are studied. By using the goodness of fit methodology, a new test statistic is proposed for testing exponentiality versus UBAC(2)L class of life distribution. Critical values of our test are calculated for complete and censored data. The power of the test and pitman’s asymptotic efficiency (PAE) for some commonly used distributions in …

In this paper, we describe the structure of the subgroup generated by the images of the 2-sextactic points under the Abel- Jacobi map in the Jacobian of a 1-parameter family (Ca)a∈C\{0,1} of smooth projective plane curves of degree four. Each curve Ca ⊂ P2(C) of (Ca)a∈C\{0,1} is given by

Mathematical Model For Unsteady Remediation Of River Pollution By Aeration, Mohamed Kh. Hadhouda, Zeinab S. Hassan Oct 2022

Mathematical Model For Unsteady Remediation Of River Pollution By Aeration, Mohamed Kh. Hadhouda, Zeinab S. Hassan

Information Sciences Letters

The governing coupled pair of nonlinear unsteady-state equations describing the concentration of the pollutant P(x,t) and the dissolved oxygen concentration X(x,t) in a river are solved numerically in one dimension x. The initial values of both P(x,t) and X(x,t) are assumed to be decreasing exponential functions in x. The results are presented and discussed graphically. We have proved mathematically the fact that the high concentration of pollutant can be reduced by releasing adequate discharges from barrage in a river. The different effects of parameters controlling the flow on both P(x,t) and X(x,t) are studied along the river at different time …

Matroidal And Lattices Structures Of Rough Sets And Some Of Their Topological Characterizations, Abd El Fattah A. El Atik, Manal E. Ali

Information Sciences Letters

Matroids, rough set theory and lattices are efficient tools of knowledge discovery. Lattices and matroids are studied on preapproximations spaces. Li et al. proved that a lattice is Boolean if it is clopen set lattice for matroids. In our study, a lattice is Boolean if it is closed for matroids. Moreover, a topological lattice is discussed using its matroidal structure. Atoms in a complete atomic Boolean lattice are completely determined through its topological structure. Finally, a necessary and sufficient condition for a predefinable set is proved in preapproximation spaces. The value k for a predefinable set in lattice of matroidal …

Person search is a challenging problem with various real-world applications, that aims at joint person detection and re-identification of a query person from uncropped gallery images. Although, previous study focuses on rich feature information learning, it’s still hard to retrieve the query person due to the occurrence of appearance deformations and background distractors. In this paper, we propose a novel attention-aware relation mixer (ARM) module for person search, which exploits the global relation between different local regions within RoI of a person and make it robust against various appearance deformations and occlusion. The proposed ARM is composed of a relation …

Principals' Knowledge Of Special Education Policy And Procedure And The Special Education Teachers' Intent, Tara Clark

Dissertations

Teacher shortage has been a growing problem. With the increase of teacher shortages, some areas are being impacted more intensely. Special education is one of the areas most impacted by the shortages. Common reasons exist as to why teachers are leaving the field or profession. These reasons may be personal or professional related. Some of the professional reasons for leaving pertain to the school’s administration and the way special education teachers are treated. Principal support is cited as one of the primary indicators of teacher satisfaction. Literature supports the analysis that a principal’s leadership heavily determines a teacher’s job satisfaction. …

Opioid addiction (OA) is moderately heritable, yet only rs1799971, the A118G variant in OPRM1, has been identified as a genome-wide significant association with OA and independently replicated. We applied genomic structural equation modeling to conduct a GWAS of the new Genetics of Opioid Addiction Consortium (GENOA) data together with published studies (Psychiatric Genomics Consortium, Million Veteran Program, and Partners Health), comprising 23,367 cases and effective sample size of 88,114 individuals of European ancestry. Genetic correlations among the various OA phenotypes were uniformly high (r

Do Islamist Parties Help Or Hinder Women? Party Institutionalization, Piety And Responsiveness To Female Citizens, Mounah Abdel-Samad, Lindsay J. Benstead Oct 2022

Do Islamist Parties Help Or Hinder Women? Party Institutionalization, Piety And Responsiveness To Female Citizens, Mounah Abdel-Samad, Lindsay J. Benstead

Political Science Faculty Publications and Presentations

Does electing Islamist parties help or hurt women? Due to Ennahda winning a plurality in the 2011 elections and women from all parties winning 31% of seats, Tunisia offers an opportunity to test the impact of legislator gender and Islamist orientation on women's representation. Using original 2012 surveys of 40 Tunisian parliamentarians (MPs) and 1200 citizens, we find that electing female and Islamists MPs improves women's symbolic and service responsiveness by increasing the likelihood that female citizens are aware of and contact MPs. Electing Islamist female MPs has a positive impact on women's symbolic and service responsiveness, but decreases the …

Functional Genomics Of Complex Cancer Genomes., Francesca Menghi, Edison Liu

Faculty Research 2022

Cancer functional genomics is the study of how genetic, epigenetic, and transcriptional alterations affect cancer phenotypes, such as growth and therapeutic response. Here, we comment on how, taking advantage of next generation sequencing, functional genomics, often combined with systems biology approaches, has revealed novel cancer vulnerabilities beyond the original paradigm of one gene-one phenotype.
