Animals’ space requirements may vary according to life-history and social considerations. We observed 516 wild adult Asian elephants from both sexes, over 9 years, to investigate how life-history traits and social behavior influence protected-area (PA) use at Udawalawe National Park, Sri Lanka. Male PA-use, quantified in terms of average between-sightings-interval (BSI), was significantly influenced by the interaction of age class and motivational state (i.e. reproduction vs. foraging). Musth lengthened with age, with a median of 24.5 days for ages 21–30, 32.5 days for ages 31–40, and 45 days for those > 40. A minority (11%) used it exclusively during musth, while …

Purpose

Emergency medicine pharmacists (EMPs) have been demonstrated to have a positive impact on patient outcomes in a variety of clinical scenarios in the emergency department (ED), yet their distribution across the nation is suboptimal. An emergency medicine pharmacy intensity score tool (EMPIST) would not only facilitate the quantification of EMP staffing needs and ideal resource deployment times, but would also allow practitioners to triage patient care activities. The purpose of this investigation was to develop an EMPIST and evaluate its relationship to EMP activities.

Data Quality Indicators For Bathymetric Data On Ecdis Display, Christos Kastrisios, Colin Ware

Zones of Confidence (ZOC) are used with Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) to inform mariners about the confidence the producing nation places in bathymetric data. Accident reports show that failing to account for the varying data quality may result in maritime accidents, environmental disasters, and loss of life (e.g., (BSU, 2020; DSB, 2017; RMIMA, 2020)). A major concern with the ZOC concept has been the utilized symbology with glyphs consisting of stars. Due to its recognized deficiencies, star symbology has been rejected for use with the Quality of Bathymetric Data (QoBD) (DQWG, 2019a), the successor of ZOC in S-101, and, therefore, …
