African American Family Members’ Needs And Experiences During A Loved One’S End-Of-Life, Kelley Obringer
Theses and Dissertations
This study aimed to explore African American family members’ needs and experiences during their loved one’s end-of-life. In Chapter 1, a literature review was conducted to review the current state of the literature regarding African American family members’ needs and experiences during their loved one’s end-of-life. Chapter 2 includes a qualitative exploratory study of African American family members’ needs and experiences during their loved one’s end-of-life. The study sample consisted of family members of African Americans being cared for through services provided by an outpatient palliative care facility in the Southeastern United States. Family members answered five open-ended interview questions …

Stabilization Of Zero-Energy Skin Modes In Finite Non-Hermitian Lattices, Cem Yuce, Hamidreza Ramezani
Stabilization Of Zero-Energy Skin Modes In Finite Non-Hermitian Lattices, Cem Yuce, Hamidreza Ramezani
Physics & Astronomy Faculty Publications
The zero energy of a one-dimensional semi-infinite non-Hermitian lattice with nontrivial spectral topology may disappear when we introduce boundaries to the system. While the corresponding zero-energy state can be considered as a quasi-edge state for the finite lattice with a long survival time, any small disruption (noise) in the initial form of the quasi-edge state can significantly shorten the survival time. Here, by tailoring the couplings at one edge we form an exceptional point allowing for a topological phase transition and the stabilization of the quasi-edge state in a finite-size lattice with open edges. Such a small modification in the …

In human culture, machine learning has long been used to address complicated issues. Machine learning is successful because of the help provided by computational power and sensing technology. Data-driven strategies and the development of artificial intelligence will soon have a significant impact on the industry. Common examples include search engines, picture recognition, biometrics, speech and handwriting recognition, natural language processing, as well as medical diagnostics and credit scores. It is obvious that when artificial intelligence permeates our globe and, more precisely, our lives, numerous challenges will become public. According to predictions, Industry 4.0 or Smart Manufacturing will be the next …
Reducing The Negative Effects Of Uncontrollable Factors When Designing New Courses, Nusser Raajpoot, Ran Liu
Reducing The Negative Effects Of Uncontrollable Factors When Designing New Courses, Nusser Raajpoot, Ran Liu
Atlantic Marketing Journal
This paper seeks to introduce a novel course design method in academic literature. It uses advanced experimental designs to capture student preferences. It also makes a distinction between controllable and uncontrollable design factors and seeks to minimize the negative impact of uncontrollable design factors, ensuring a successful course introduction. We propose and test a design method that combines Taguchi experimental designs with discrete choice estimation where choice probabilities are used as input data for Taguchi's inner and outer arrays. Design efficiency is measured by calculating signal to noise (S/N) ratio, which accounts for both mean and variance of choice probabilities. …

Brides And Bridal Stores: Online Or Brick-And-Mortar, Libby C. Jones, Ismet Anitsal, Melek Meral Anitsal
Atlantic Marketing Journal
This paper explores the growing global bridal industry and the different trends, traditions, and aspects of specific countries' bridal industries. It outlines western and eastern traditions and how globalization contributes to their spread. A deeper focus is dedicated to the United States' bridal industry and the issues brick-and-mortar bridal boutiques face as more brides have started shopping at online bridal stores. The relationship between brick-and-mortar and online bridal stores is explored based on various propositions about the bridal industry's emerging challenges. These propositions include trust issues in the retail environment, convenience, selection of bridal gowns in different retail formats, incorporating …

Political Reality: Attack Ads Are Here To Stay, Rebecca Dingus, Chanho Song, Richard H. Kolbe, Michael Y. Hu
Atlantic Marketing Journal
The primary research questions of this study center on two largely overlooked areas in negative political advertising: (1) Would the sponsor of the attack ad message be better off with a positive message? (2) When one is targeted by an attack ad, how should the attacked candidate respond? M-Turk subjects (n = 1,380) were used to conduct a multi-stage experimental design to capture the dynamic aspects of how subjects react to the use of attack ads in a hypothetical political campaign. In general, subjects did not respond favorably to attack ads, as these negative political messages caused damage to the …

The heart is the most crucial part of the Human body. The organ circulates blood out of the circulatory system’s blood vessels. Any disease or failure of this organ causes death. Heart disease is one of the primary sources of death in the cutting-edge world. There are 2,380 deaths from heart disease each day, based on 2018 data. Also, heart disease causes the highest number of deaths globally, with approximately 18 million people dying yearly, meaning around 31This prediction can be made using Machine Learning techniques. Employee churn is a situation where people leave the organization voluntarily or involuntarily. This has become a serious problem in recent times. We have also seen that attrition rates in several industries are going high. So, it is very much required to understand and analyze the reason behind attrition and why this is happening. We must conduct an analysis to know what the factors affecting employee churn are. It will create a huge impact on the organization if the attrition rate goes high. In order to resolve this issue, we are trying to take up this issue and find the …

American residents in the (Nigerian, Liberian, Indian, Ghanaian, etc.) Diaspora have strong ties back home and as such support loved ones, back home, on a regular basis, by sending cash remittances through Western Union, MoneyGram, etc. Remittances are expensive. Remitters have no control over how funds are spent once received. Remitters cannot send small amounts because the fees cannot be justified. We built a marketplace platform that allows the Diaspora to remit goods and services, instead of sending money to relatives back home in. The objectives are to remove or greatly reduce the cost of remittances, give more control to …

Neural networks have become increasingly powerful and commonplace tools for guiding decision-making. However, due to the black-box nature of many of these networks, it is often difficult to understand exactly what guides them to a certain prediction, making them dangerous to use for sensitive decision making, and making it difficult to ensure confidence in their output. For instance, a network which classifies images of dogs and cats may turn out to be flawed with little consequence, but a neural network that diagnoses the presence of diseases should be assured to make sound predictions. By understanding why a network makes the …

Red Pepper IT is an application developed for Georgia Tech Research Institute. The conception of this project arose from the lack of IT management tools that can address all the needs of an IT department. Furthermore, with the currently available tools, they are either poorly designed or have a high licensing cost. This project seeks to solve the need for such applications by building an open-source application that can be deployed internally by any business seeking a management tool for its IT department.

One of the most important challenges in the field of a software code audit is the presence of vulnerabilities in software source code. Every year, more and more software flaws are found, either internally in proprietary code or revealed publicly. These flaws are highly likely exploited and lead to system compromise, data leakage, or denial of service. C and C++ open-source code are now available in order to create a large-scale, machine-learning system for function-level vulnerability identification. We assembled a sizable dataset of millions of open-source functions that point to potential exploits. We created an efficient and scalable vulnerability detection …

Discrete computational models known as cellular automata (CA) utilize discrete spatial cells, each existing in one of a set of possible states at any given moment. Transition rules specify how a given cell’s state evolves in subsequent time steps and is dependent on the states of the given cell’s neighborhood of surrounding cells. A cellular automaton model can also account for the influence of other external or physical factors on the evolution of a given cell’s state. These capabilities afforded by CA models make it an ideal tool to simulate the propagation of wildfires. One specific study carried out by …
