Efficacy Of Glycerol Rhizotomy In Trigeminal Neuralgia: Case-Series, Zuhair Abbas Al-Khafaji, Methaq Ali Ahmed

Treatment of trigeminal neurolagia by percutaneous retrogasserian glycerol rhizotomy was assessed in a series of 45 patients during the period from May 2008 through June 2012 with a follow up period ranging from 2 to 24 months postoperatively. All patients enrolled in the present study were considered medical failures before the procedure. Achievement of substantial pain relief was reported in 42 patients (93.3 %) and no further medical treatment was needed. Outcome also included reduction in facial sensation in 30 patients (66.7 %) and recurrence in 4 patients (8.9 %). Failure of treatment was seen in 3 patients (6.7 %). …

Aims: To constuct and evaluate a rapid semiautomated system in discriminating malignant from benign follicular thyroid neoplasms.  Methods: Sixty formalin fixed paraffin embeded blocks of follicular thyroidneoplasms were retreived and slides were prepared and H and E stained. A morphometric system was constructed to be as rapid as possible and was tested.Results: No signficant difference was found in ratio of largest nuclear to smallest nuclear diameter between follicualr adenoma and follicualr carcinoma groups.Conclusion: Rapid semiautomated morphometric analysis is of no help in predicting malignancy in follicular thyroid neoplasm.

Copper (II ) , Zinc (II ) , Cobalt (II) and Nickel (II ) complexes with the Schiff base derived from 2-Hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde and DL-glycine -DL-glycine were synthesized.These compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis , conductivity measurement, IR and UV-Vis.The molar conductance measurement indicate that the complexes are 1:1 non-electrolytes. The IR data demonstrate the tetradentate binding of the ligand .The COO- stretching bands in the IR spectra suggest that carboxylate acts as a monodentate group when binding with metal . The bonding sites are the carboxylate oxygen , imino nitrogen , amide nitrogen , and phenolic oxygen.
