Larvicidal Activity Of Β-Asarone And Acorus Calamus Linn. (Sweet Flag) Extract Against Aedes Aegypti (Dipotera: Culicidae): Enzyme Inhibition, Midgut Histopathology, And In Silico Analysis, Rizal Subahar, Surya Dwira

Indonesian Journal of Medical Chemistry and Bioinformatics

Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae), the primary vector of dengue, poses a significant public health threat in tropical and subtropical regions. Botanical insecticides and phytochemicals such as β- asarone, derived from essential oils, offer a promising alternative to synthetic larvicides. The rhizome of Acorus calamus L. (sweet flag), traditionally known for its neuroprotective and antioxidant properties, contains β-asarone as its principal bioactive constituent.This study evaluated the larvicidal efficacy of β-asarone and A. calamus rhizome extract against Ae. aegypti larvae, focusing on detoxification enzyme inhibition, midgut histopathology, and in silico molecular interactions.Third- and fourth-instar larvae were exposed to β-asarone and crude extract at …

Ionic Liquid Pilocarpine Serves As Therapeutic Cosolvent And Permeation Enhancer For Glaucoma Medication, Ashish Trital, Lei Xu, Burhan Ates, Tzu Chen Wang, Vimalin Mani, Hu Yang

Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

The efficacy of hydrophobic ocular drugs is significantly hindered by their low bioavailability, for which poor water solubility is a major contributing factor. In this work, we synthesized pilocarpine-derived ionic liquid [Pilo-OEG] Cl (PO) and evaluated its cosolvent properties for the codelivery of the hydrophobic antiglaucoma drug brimonidine (BM) for glaucoma therapy. Pilocarpine was quaternized with 2-[2-(2-chloroethoxy) ethoxy] ethanol in a one-pot reaction to yield PO, and its structure was confirmed using 1H NMR and FT-IR spectroscopy methods and further characterized for its rheological property and thermal stability. The HET-CAM assay and cell viability study showed that PO was …

Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works

We demonstrate that secondary ions sputtered from a macrocapillary's inner surface by the primary beam induce premature saturation of the guiding field, hindering fast ion guiding. By suppressing secondary ion sputtering with grooved surfaces, we achieve a guiding-field potential difference exceeding 1 kV, 2 orders of magnitude larger than previously achieved in stable ion guiding. This enables stable guiding of a 20-keV/q O5+ beam at offset angles up to 15°, with transmitted ions retaining their initial energy and charge state. A self-consistent field model accurately reproduces these results, revealing that guiding performance relies on managing secondary ions and the channel's …

Cutaneous Rosai-Dorfman Disease Misdiagnosed As Granulomatous Dermatitis: A Diagnostic Pitfall, Sri Naidnur, Jamie Hedrick, Smaran Marupudi, Kara Asbury, Kelly Maedo, Bryan Gammon, Rick Lin Mar 2026

Cutaneous Rosai-Dorfman Disease Misdiagnosed As Granulomatous Dermatitis: A Diagnostic Pitfall, Sri Naidnur, Jamie Hedrick, Smaran Marupudi, Kara Asbury, Kelly Maedo, Bryan Gammon, Rick Lin

School of Medicine Publications

Cutaneous Rosai-Dorfman disease (CRDD) is an uncommon non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis that may occur without systemic involvement and lacks specific clinical features. We report a 17-year-old female with a slowly enlarging chest lesion initially diagnosed as granulomatous dermatitis on a 4-mm punch biopsy. The lesion was treated as an inflammatory process without improvement. Complete excision revealed a multinodular dermal and subcutaneous infiltrate of large histiocytes demonstrating emperipolesis, confirming CRDD. Systemic evaluation was negative. The initial limited biopsy did not capture defining features, delaying diagnosis.

Persistent nodular lesions that fail to respond to therapy should prompt reconsideration and more representative tissue sampling. …

Layer-Wise Printing Parameter Optimization For Laser Powder Bed Fusion, Chaoran Dou, Rongxuan Wang, Raghav Gnanasambandam, Jianzhi Li, Zhenyu James Kong Mar 2026

Layer-Wise Printing Parameter Optimization For Laser Powder Bed Fusion, Chaoran Dou, Rongxuan Wang, Raghav Gnanasambandam, Jianzhi Li, Zhenyu James Kong

Manufacturing & Industrial Engineering Faculty Publications

Additive manufacturing (AM) is a transformative technology that enables the fabrication of complex geometries layer by layer. However, metal parts produced via AM processes such as laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) are prone to various defects, including porosity and deformation. These defects often result from suboptimal printing parameter settings. Traditional approaches typically aim to reduce defects by optimizing a fixed set of parameters for the entire part. However, such methods do not account for layer-wise variations in printing conditions caused by changes in geometry, heat transfer, and re-heating effects. While optimizing parameters for each layer could improve part quality, it …

Enhancing The Capability Of A Hybrid Twdm/Pon Using Waveguide-Integrated Si/2d Material-Based Photodetector With The Most Suitable Metal-2d Material-Metal (M-2dm-M) Configuration, Neha Neha, Chakresh Kumar, Ghanendra Kumar Mar 2026

Enhancing The Capability Of A Hybrid Twdm/Pon Using Waveguide-Integrated Si/2d Material-Based Photodetector With The Most Suitable Metal-2d Material-Metal (M-2dm-M) Configuration, Neha Neha, Chakresh Kumar, Ghanendra Kumar

Polytechnic Journal

In the proposed work, a novel architecture of a 10-channel hybrid time-wavelength division multiplexing/passive optical network (TWDM/PON) system is investigated for different data rates: low data rate (2.5 Gbps) and high data rate (10 Gbps) using different two-dimensional (2D) material-based photodetectors with a metal-2D material-metal (M-2DM-M) device structure. Integration with Silicon (Si) semiconductor makes the detectors highly compatible with complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology. The performance of the system is measured in terms of eye diagrams obtained using OptSim Software. Graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), and black phosphorus (BP) are the three materials used to enhance performance metrics of high-speed optical networks. …

Employing A Hysteresis Approach To Analyze Shifts In Tree Physiological Thresholds In Response To Drought, Mauro Brum, Annie Deslauriers, Matthew A. Vadeboncoeur, Tanner Frost, David Moore, Caroline Rodrigues Da Silva, Daniel B. Metcalfe, Heidi Asbjornsen

Faculty Publications

Drought‐induced tree mortality underscores the need for improved physiological models to predict tree responses to water stress. We employed a hysteresis modelling approach analyzing diel water absorption and desorption cycles to understand drought‐induced shifts in physiological thresholds. We applied this approach to sap flow (Js), stem diameter fluctuation (SDF), stem volumetric water content fluctuation (SVWCF), and vapour pressure deficit (VPD), datasets from two throughfall reduction experiments in contrasting ecosystems: a cloud forest (Peru) and a temperate forest (USA). Using a generalised transcendental equation, we quantified five diurnal hysteresis loops (Js:VPD, Js:SDF, Js:SVWCF, SDF:VPD, SVWCF:VPD) and derived hysteresis parameters (centroids, area, …
