Progress in Scale Modeling, an International Journal

The phenomenon of Taylor or shear-induced dispersion of a non-passive scalar field in a pulsatile pipe flow is investigated, accounting for the scalar field's influence on fluid density and transport coefficients. By employing multiple scale analysis, an effective one-dimensional, unsteady mixing problem for the scalar field is obtained, which includes the diffusion coefficient for shear-induced dispersion. The resulting governing equations are applicable to a range of scalar transport problems in pulsatile pipe flows.

Breast cancer is a primary worldwide health concern, and conventional therapies often cause side effects. This study was performed to investigate the therapeutic potential of a polyherbal formulation containing Curcuma longa, Phyllanthus niruri, Ziziphus mauritiana, Nigella sativa, and Annona muricata as multi-target inhibitors against breast cancer protein targets using molecular docking and molecular dynamics in silico approach. Bioactive compounds were analyzed using Liquid Chromatography High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (LC-HRMS) to identify the extract's phytochemicals. Functionally graded materials (FGMs) are a highly advanced class of biomaterials with graded structure and properties, enabling the fabrication of physiologically and mechanically compatible materials for use in various medical devices. This study aims to produce a functional-grade material based on a cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy (F75) reinforced with 4% titanium (Ti) and hydroxyapatite (HA). This will enhance the material's mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and bioactivity, making it suitable for use as a bone substitute. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between sound and light variables and development of delirium in pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) patients within the subsequent three days. Methods: Light and sound were continuously measured, and patient-specific data was collected daily. Outcomes included presence of delirium, determined by Cornell Assessment of Pediatric Delirium (CAPD) score ≥ 9 on at least one day, and development of delirium in the subsequent 3 days. Objective: Healthcare throughput is the progression of patients from admission to discharge, limited by bed occupancy and hospital capacity. This study examines Heart Center throughput, cascading effects of limited beds, transfer delays, and nursing staffing on outcomes utilizing elective surgery cancellation during the initial SARS-CoV-2 pandemic wave. Design: Retrospective single-center study of staffing, adverse events, and transfers were collected. Study period was January 1, 2018 – December 31, 2020 with the SARS-CoV-2 period March-May 2020. Objective: To compare patient outcomes before and after implementation of a risk stratified pediatric sedation weaning protocol. Methods: This observational cohort study, in a 30-bed tertiary care pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), included patients requiring opioid, benzodiazepine and/or dexmedetomidine infusions. Outcomes (duration of wean, PICU length of stay (LOS), and withdrawal assessment tool (WAT-1) scores) were collected by retrospective chart review for 12-months before and after protocol implementation. Objectives: To identify the characteristics of non-survivors in a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) in Turkey. Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of patients who died in a tertiary PICU over a 6-year period from 2016 to 2021. Data were drawn from electronic medical records and resuscitation notes. Mode of death was categorized as failed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (F-CPR) or brain death (BD). Results: Among the 161 deaths, 136 non-survivors were included and 30.1% were younger than 1 year old. Severe pneumonia, respiratory failure and ARDS (31.6%) were the most common primary diagnoses. The objective of this study was to the current trends in demographics, clinical manifestations, treatments, and outcomes in the United States for children hospitalized with acute myocarditis. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted using data collected from the Pediatric Health Information System (PHIS) database for the years 2014-2020.
