Using The Diary–Interview Method With Time-Constrained Professionals: The Case Of Journalists And Harassment, Ilmari Hiltunen, Reeta Pöyhtäri, Kaarina Nikunen

The Qualitative Report

This article presents a methodological reflection on the diary–interview method’s value and application when used with professionals whose schedules are both demanding and unpredictable, drawing on the authors’ insights from a study examining the harassment and intimidation of journalists. Our experiences demonstrate that combining solicited diary entries with recurring interviews can yield substantial advantages over using either method alone. Diaries are particularly well suited to capturing rich, situated data and individual perspectives, adding distinctive value especially when exploring sensitive or personal issues. Interviews that probe these accounts and revisit incidents in greater depth, in turn, enhance understanding of participants’ emotions, …

This study explores the influence of Indonesia's school literacy initiative program, also known as the school literacy movement (SLM), on academic achievement and religious character formation among Hindu students at Bali Mandara State High School. The SLM’s effects within Bali’s predominantly Hindu community provide a perspective on how literacy initiatives intersect with cultural and religious education in a largely Muslim country. The objective of the study was to assess the transformative impact of the SLM on both educational outcomes and character development, specifically examining its alignment with Hindu teachings. As educators, we need to be mindful about how to teach procedural steps but also engage learners in the interpretive process of qualitative analysis. This article examines the intersectional experiences of queer scholars of color in STEM and STEM education. Using arts-informed research methods, we conducted and analyzed five interviews and a focus group transcript that focused on the support and hurdles that five participants encountered and the strategies they utilized to navigate their work in STEM and STEM education. We identified that, against the backdrop of prevailing heteronormativity and normative whiteness in STEM, participants compartmentalized their STEM and social identities, felt compelled to negotiate the risks of coming out, and assumed the double burden and invisible work of students who were queer and/or …

Bismuth oxide (Bi₂O₃) nanoparticles were synthesized via a green route and integrated into Bi₂O₃/Si heterojunction solar cells. Structural analysis confirmed the monoclinic α-Bi₂O₃ phase with a nanoscale crystallite size, while SEM revealed a uniform morphology. Optical studies showed a direct band gap suitable for absorbing visible light. Photoluminescence spectra exhibited dual emissions at 498 nm and 250 nm, attributed to defect states and quantum confinement, highlighting the dual role of Bi₂O₃ as both absorber and transparent window layer. Electrical characterization under dark conditions demonstrated rectifying diode behavior, confirming the formation of a junction. Capacitance–voltage analysis yielded a built-in potential of …

The growing demand for sustainable construction materials has led to increased interest in utilizing agricultural wastes as eco-friendly alternatives. This study examines the potential of Avocado Seeds (AS), Mango Seeds (MS), and Mango Peels (MP) as additives in eco-floor tile production, incorporating them into cement mixtures through a quasi-experimental design. Various proportions of these agricultural by-products, collectively termed as Seeds and Peels Mixtures (SPM) were evaluated for compressive strength, flexural strength, and water absorption. The global demand for renewable energy sources necessitates exploring sustainable alternatives to fossil fuels. Coffee husks, a significant agricultural waste product, represent a potential feedstock for biofuel production. This study investigated the comparative efficacy of steam distillation and Ultrasonic-Assisted Extraction (UAE), using ethanol as a solvent to extract crude extract from Coffea canephora husks. A comparative experiment was conducted using 200g of Coffea canephora husks for each extraction method replicated three times and the yields were measured in mL. Energy security remains a significant concern for the Philippines amid rising demand, growing population, and continuous modernization. Given the Philippines' history of energy problems, attention to energy is necessary. With this, the study aims to forecast the Philippines' possible annual energy consumption from 2025 to 2030, considering population growth as a potential variable influencing the Philippines’ projected energy consumption trends. This Note intersects labor, employment, and sports law by reexamining the 2015 National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Northwestern decision on the employee status of student-athletes in light of recent developments in sport and labor law jurisprudence. This Note critiques the rationale of the Northwestern decision under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) and highlights pertinent Name Image and Likeness and NLRB jurisprudence that signify a shift in how the NLRB views this issue. It ultimately argues that student-athletes should be considered employees under Section 2(3) of the NLRA for purposes of collective bargaining with their respective universities.

Since the Supreme Court's decision in National Collegiate Athletic Association v. Alston, the movement for college athlete unionization has drastically expanded. As college sports—and their profitability—continue to grow, problems such as the exploitation of athletes of color, gender inequity, and abuse and mistreatment of athletes have signaled the need for restoring decision-making power to the athletes. This can be achieved through collective bargaining, but the complexity of college sports and its many stakeholders makes the route to a college athletes players association far from clear. If your job requires you to passionately embrace your coworker after surviving the seat-riveting climax action of the third act, does that complicate your workplace’s sexual harassment prevention strategy? Most jobs do not require workers to make intentional intimate contact with their coworkers. Yet, in the entertainment industry, some jobs require not just intimate contact with coworkers but selling that contact as authentic. This staged intimacy, like staged violence, carries a risk that simulated conduct can result in real harm.
