In-Situ Eutectic Ultra-High-Temperature Ceramic Coatings With Dispersed Rhenium Intermetallics For Reusable Thermal Protection Systems, Volodymyr Kotegov
Defensive Publications Series
Reusable launch vehicles and hypersonic re-entry vehicles experience surface temperatures that routinely exceed 2000 °C on leading edges and nose tips. Conventional ultra-high-temperature ceramic (UHTC) coatings based on hafnium or zirconium diboride offer high melting points but remain vulnerable to thermal-shock cracking and delamination caused by coefficient-of-thermal-expansion mismatch with the underlying composite substrate.
This paper describes a coating architecture that forms its final microstructure in situ during the first high-temperature exposure. A precursor layer of HfB₂ or ZrB₂, SiC and finely dispersed rhenium-based intermetallic particles is applied to a carbon-carbon or ceramic-matrix-composite substrate. When the surface temperature reaches approximately 1800–1950 …
Junction-Stabilized Graphene Aerogels For Cryogenic Insulation And Lightweight Radiation Shielding, Volodymyr Kotegov
Junction-Stabilized Graphene Aerogels For Cryogenic Insulation And Lightweight Radiation Shielding, Volodymyr Kotegov
Defensive Publications Series
Long-duration deep-space missions and reusable cryogenic stages require insulation that remains dimensionally stable at liquid-hydrogen temperatures, adds very little mass, and provides at least modest attenuation of ionizing radiation. Conventional polymer foams become brittle and crack after repeated cryogenic cycling in vacuum. Multi-layer insulation is thermally efficient but offers almost no radiation protection and loses performance when compressed.
This paper describes a graphene aerogel whose open-cell network is locked at the sheet junctions by in-situ formed metallic nano-clusters. Two practical variants are defined: a lower-metal thermal-primary grade optimised for minimum conductivity and maximum recovery, and a higher-metal radiation-enhanced grade that …

In this study, known chemical syntheses of MK-8527 (alimatravir) were examined and new synthetic routes proposed.
The baseline route to alimatravir was described in the 2015 Merck patent (WO2015148746A1). It involves a chemical synthesis of MK-8527 (no biocatalysis). Because of its similarities to islatravir (MK-8591), there has been a considerable amount of synthetic work related to this nucleoside structure. This synthetic chemistry is also briefly summarized.
Three synthetic routes are proposed with the aim of lowering the cost and improving the accessibility of MK-8527. In Proposed Route 1, the single enantiomer furanose intermediate (Cpd 31) is prepared from …

A system and method for detecting entity mentions in multilingual text are disclosed. A shared multilingual transformer encoder produces a pooled representation from a tokenized representation of an item of text. A named-entity-recognition (NER) feature extraction module produces an NER feature vector from the item of text and a configured entity list, the NER feature vector including exact-match, fuzzy-similarity, entity-overlap, organization-entity, position-score, and mention-frequency components. A late-fusion concatenation module concatenates the pooled representation with the NER feature vector after and external to encoder layers of the shared multilingual transformer encoder to form a joint representation. A classification head produces an …

A system detects semantic leakage of contextual information in a prompt to a large language model (LLM) by extracting, in parallel from a reference context and a user input, a cosine similarity signal from multilingual sentence embeddings, an entity overlap signal from extracted named entities, and a number match signal from extracted numerical patterns. Fusion weights are selected from a plurality of language-tier weight profiles based on a detected language of the user input, and a fused score is computed as a weighted combination of the signals. The reference context and the user input are routed onto a fast trigger …
Sensor Fusion Method For In-Cabin Zonal Solar Load Estimation And Hvac Mode Control, Anonymous
Sensor Fusion Method For In-Cabin Zonal Solar Load Estimation And Hvac Mode Control, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
Vehicle HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems rely on solar load sensing to bias cabin cooling and maintain occupant thermal comfort. Conventional implementations use a single dash-mounted sunload sensor to estimate an aggregate solar heat load across the entire cabin, applying a uniform or, at best, a fixed left/right cooling bias. This approach does not account for the vehicle's actual heading relative to the sun, transient shading events, or differences in glass geometry and tint across occupant zones. This publication discloses a sensor fusion method that combines GPS-derived solar position geometry, vehicle heading, the existing single sunload sensor, and …

Student engagement in developing open educational resources (OER; openly licensed materials without fees to access) may be critically important for sustainable higher education and for developing important skills. There has been substantial debate about the use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) for the sustainability of OER, but little empirical inquiry. In this quasi-experimental study in the United States, two sections of college students (N = 113) collaborated with their instructor to improve the sources cited in an OER textbook. In one section, students only used traditional library databases to find suitable sources (traditional; n = 55). In another section, students …

The Mundlak Estimator In A Panel Data Model With Serially Correlated Error Component Disturbances, Badi H. Baltagi, Long Liu
Center for Policy Research
This paper shows that the classic Mundlak (1978) result where the random effects estimator reduces to the fixed effects estimator when the regressors are all correlated with the individual effects, may not hold if the remainder disturbances have a general serial correlation variance-covariance matrix. This includes the popular AR(1), MA(1) and ARMA(p, q) processes for serial correlation. This is illustrated with an empirical example for the AR(1) case.
Information Revelation In Constant-Sum Games: Elections And Beyond, Navin Kartik, Francesco Squintani, Katrin Tinn
Information Revelation In Constant-Sum Games: Elections And Beyond, Navin Kartik, Francesco Squintani, Katrin Tinn
Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers
Do elections aggregate the private information of office-motivated candidates? Our answer stems from a general result for two-player constant-sum Bayesian games with type-independent payoffs. Under a “completeness” statistical condition, every “identifiable” equilibrium is an ex-post equilibrium. Applied to Downsian elections, the ex-post property implies a sharp bound on information aggregation: equilibrium voter welfare is at best equal to the efficient use of a single candidate’s information. In canonical specifications, politicians may “anti-pander” (overreact to their information), whereas some degree of pandering would be socially beneficial. We discuss other applications of the ex-post result.

Interactive Insights: Using Kwla-R© To Spark Active Learning And Reflection In Nursing, Amanda Adams
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Active learning within nursing education assists in the engagement and retention of knowledge among students (Bristol et.al, 2019). The Know, Want to Know, Learned, Application – Reflection (KWLA-R) teaching tool was implemented as an innovative strategy for prework and active learning within a concept-based nursing curriculum. This approach aimed to promote active engagement and critical thinking through scaffolding knowledge (Coffman, et. al, 2023). The adaptation was executed in a hybrid format: students first completed the initial half of the KWLA-R as a ticket prior to the didactic session, answering what they already knew and what they wanted to learn about …

Sultan Qaboos University Medical Journal
Objectives: The bidirectional Glenn (BDG) procedure, a key palliative intervention for single-ventricle physiology, is conventionally performed using cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) despite its associated complications and costs. However, the comparative impact of CPB versus off-pump techniques on perioperative safety, neurological risk and long-term outcomes remains controversial. Therefore, this meta-analysis aimed to determine whether performing the BDG procedure without CPB improves perioperative outcomes (including morbidity, mortality, and neurological events), resource utilisation, and long-term survival compared to the conventional on-pump approach. Methods: This review systematically searched PubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane Central from inception until January 2025 for comparative randomised and observational studies reporting …

Dataset For Effects Of Demineralization Protocols On Hydrogen And Oxygen Isotope Ratios In Fossil Bone Collagen, Linda M. Reynard
Geosciences Research Data
This dataset accompanies a peer-reviewed publication. The effect of three commonly used preparation protocols on bone collagen d2H and d18O values was investigated, using six generally well-preserved faunal bones (cattle, bison, horse) ranging in age from the Holocene to Late Pleistocene. The treatments tested were ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid demineralization without gelatinization and hydrochloric acid demineralization with and without gelatinization. There were small d2H changes noted by method; however, given the expected water isotopic variation among labs this should be an insignificant source of inter-lab variation.

Optimizing Ball‐Milled Composites For Fast Energy Release Under Shock Compression, Siva Valluri, Edward Dreizin, Dana Dlott
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Microparticle additives containing both Al fuel and oxidizer, fabricated by arrested reactive milling (ARM), could potentially increase the power of energetic materials such as HMX because they contain premixed fuel and oxidizer. Optimizing shock reactivity requires exploring a vast parametric space encompassing composition, milling parameters that govern microstructural features such as intraparticle voids and fuel-oxidizer mixing, and the resulting inhomogeneous shock reactivity of individual particles. To present our approach, we used a model composition 8Al⋅3CuO, previously optimized for combustion. We milled powders and prescreened different prepared batches using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) to rule out batches with significant pre-reaction. Then …
