Propagation And Interaction Of Gravity Currents Induced By Successive Release Of Two Lock Fluids, Khem Prasad Bhattarai, Subhas Karan Venayagamoorthy
Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
This study investigates the dynamics of sequentially released gravity currents in a lock-exchange configuration consisting of two lock fluids using high-resolution numerical simulations and compares them with the classical single-lock exchange. The results demonstrate that, in a two-lock-fluid configuration, the overtaking of the lighter lock current by the heavier lock current alters the current's front dynamics, leading to complex velocity transitions. Before overtaking occurs, the front propagation is slower than in the classical single-lock-fluid case because of lower density contrast, but after overtaking, the heavier lock fluid accumulates at the head region of the current and enhances its speed. The …

National Security, Macroeconomic Stability, And The Future Of Nigeria's Development: Policy Priorities In A Volatile Global Environment, Suleiman Yusuf Usman Mr.
Bullion
Nigeria confronts a dual crisis: escalating domestic insecurity and intensifying global geopolitical volatility. Rising insecurity undermines productive capacity, diverts fiscal resources, and erodes investor confidence, whilst external shocks—including policy pronouncements from major economies and geopolitical tensions—threaten capital flows, foreign exchange reserves, and macroeconomic stability. This article examines the economic and developmental implications of these intertwined pressures, evaluates their impact on monetary policy effectiveness and financial sector resilience, and presents actionable policy recommendations to strengthen governance, restore stability, and safeguard Nigeria's long-term development trajectory. The analysis emphasises the urgent need for coordinated fiscal and monetary responses, institutional reforms, and strategic repositioning …

Projections Of The Characteristics Of Extreme Precipitation In East Africa Using Bias-Corrected Cmip6 Models, Exavery K. Makula
Projections Of The Characteristics Of Extreme Precipitation In East Africa Using Bias-Corrected Cmip6 Models, Exavery K. Makula
Tanzania Journal of Science
In the context of ongoing global climate change, the intensification of the hydrological cycle is expected to modify the frequency, magnitude, and spatial distribution of extreme precipitation events. Understanding how precipitation extremes will evolve under climate change is critical for East Africa (EA), a region highly vulnerable to hydroclimatic hazards and strongly dependent on rainfall-driven socioeconomic systems. The region experiences two main rainfall seasons, namely the long rains (March-May, MAM) and the short rains (October-December, OND). This study investigates future projections of the characteristics of extreme precipitation across the EA using an ensemble of biascorrected CMIP6 global climate models. Extreme …

Sidoarjo is well known for its culinary identity as a producer of milkfish and shrimp, which have become regional icons. Therefore, strengthening the visual image representing these commodities is necessary. Through this creative research, interior aesthetic element products were developed. This study aims to formulate milkfish and shrimp as conceptual ideas and to develop a creative process through visual exploration that produces initial sketches leading to design drawings, which are then visualized into ceramic artworks. The creation process applies the method proposed by L. H. Chapman, consisting of three stages: beginning, refinement, and completion. These stages were further developed by …

On An Approximate Solution Of One Class Of Systems Of Integral Equations Of The Second Kind, Elnur H. Khalilov
Baku Mathematical Journal
This paper provides a justification of the collocation method for a system of integral equations arising in boundary value problems for Maxwell’s equations. At specifically chosen collocation points, the system of integral equations is replaced by a system of algebraic equations, for which the existence and uniqueness of the solution are established. The convergence of the solutions of the algebraic system to the exact solution of the system of integral equations is proven, and the convergence rate of the method is indicated.

Development And Service Performance Of Active Anti-Icing Pavement Materials For Energy Efficiency Optimization Of Low-Enthalpy Geothermal Deicing Systems, Junming Mo, Jiading Jiang, Ke Wu, Lei Qu, Wenbin Wei, Jinfu Zhu
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
To address high thermal loads and energy costs in Geothermal Road Snow-Melting Systems (GRSSs) within cold regions, this study optimizes energy efficiency through material-level intervention. We developed a composite anti-icing modifier synergistic with low enthalpy geothermal systems, comprising slow-release agents, anti-corrosive components, reinforcing materials, and active chloride salts. By regulating the thermodynamic boundary of the pavement, the freezing point is suppressed to −21 °C. This eliminates the requirement for positive pavement temperatures, significantly reducing the design thermal power. Chloride ion release patterns were analyzed via dissolution and 20-day soaking tests to evaluate structural durability. Results show optimal performance at a …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
This research focuses on decision-making by trustees of self-managed superannuation funds (SMSFs) in Australia. Behavioral attributes are examined using the four-quadrant model (FQM) developed by Lovric et al. (2010), comprising the cognitive, affective, controlled, and automatic quadrants. The FQM integrates two closely related dual-process theories (DPT). Both the DPT framework and the FQM draw on foundational principles from the cognitive and behavioral sciences. The result of the mixed methods study uses the FQM to explain investment decision-making. The dataset was examined using cluster analysis to identify underlying group structures, followed by regression modelling to assess the relationships between key variables. …
