Space-Time Conflict Spheres For Constrained Multi-Agent Motion Planning, Anirudh Chari '24 Feb 2023

Space-Time Conflict Spheres For Constrained Multi-Agent Motion Planning, Anirudh Chari '24

Distinguished Student Work

Multi-agent motion planning (MAMP) is a critical challenge in applications such as connected autonomous vehicles and multi-robot systems. In this paper, we propose a space- time conflict resolution approach for MAMP. We formulate the problem using a novel, flexible sphere-based discretization for trajectories. Our approach leverages a depth-first con- flict search strategy to provide the scalability of decoupled approaches while maintaining the computational guarantees of coupled approaches. We compose procedures for evading discretization error and adhering to kinematic constraints in generated solutions. Theoretically, we prove the continuous-time feasibility and formulation-space completeness of our algorithm. Experimentally, we demonstrate that our algorithm …

Allopathic And Osteopathic Residents Perform Similarly On The Orthopedic In-Training Examination (Oite)., Carolina Gomez, Rachel Ranson, Arianna Gianakos, Cadence Miskimin, Mary K Mulcahey

Health Sciences Education Research

INTRODUCTION: There is a bias in the medical community that allopathic training is superior to osteopathic training, despite the lack of substantiation. The orthopedic in-training examination (OITE) is a yearly exam evaluating educational advancement and orthopedic surgery resident's scope of knowledge. The purpose of this study was to compare OITE scores between doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO) and medical doctor (MD) orthopedic surgery residents to determine whether any appreciable differences exist in the achievement levels between the 2 groups.

METHODS: The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons 2019 OITE technical report, which reports the scores from the 2019 OITE for MDs …

Background

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is increasingly recognized as a stroke risk factor, but its exact relationship with cerebrovascular disease is not well-understood. We investigated the development of cerebral small vessel disease using in vivo and in vitro models of CKD.

Methods

CKD was produced in aged C57BL/6J mice using an adenine-induced tubulointerstitial nephritis model. We analyzed brain histology using Prussian blue staining to examine formation of cerebral microhemorrhage (CMH), the hemorrhagic component of small vessel disease and the neuropathological substrate of MRI-demonstrable cerebral microbleeds. In cell culture studies, we examined effects of serum from healthy or CKD patients and …

Dft-Aided Machine Learning-Based Discovery Of Magnetism In Fe-Based Bimetallic Chalcogenides, Dharmendra Pant, Suresh Pokharel, Subhasish Mandal, Dukka Kc, Ranjit Pati

Michigan Tech Publications, Part 1

With the technological advancement in recent years and the widespread use of magnetism in every sector of the current technology, a search for a low-cost magnetic material has been more important than ever. The discovery of magnetism in alternate materials such as metal chalcogenides with abundant atomic constituents would be a milestone in such a scenario. However, considering the multitude of possible chalcogenide configurations, predictive computational modeling or experimental synthesis is an open challenge. Here, we recourse to a stacked generalization machine learning model to predict magnetic moment (µB) in hexagonal Fe-based bimetallic chalcogenides, FexAyB; A represents Ni, Co, Cr, …

Standing Up To Patient Microaggressions, Deborah Simpson, Roxanne Smith, Tricia La Fratta, Theresa Frederick, Jacob Bidwell

Aurora GME

Patient’s belittling comments, inquiries into one’s racial/ethnic origins, credentials and/or abilities are frequent experiences for residents and faculty per published reports across specialties. Even more of us witness these microaggressions: 74%-89% of internal medicine residents witnessed such aggressions within the last year. Cumulatively microaggressions are detrimental to learning, patient care, and well- being; effects compounded for non-white male individuals. To create an optimal clinical learning environment, we all must learn to stand up to microaggressions consistent with the 2022 AAMC DE&I equity competencies! Participants will experience a proven interactive, small group upstander workshop for patient-initiated microaggressions framed using Robert Livingston’s PRESS …

2020-Current year OA Pubs

Tandem pore domain (K2P) potassium channels modulate resting membrane potentials and shape cellular excitability. For the mechanosensitive subfamily of K2Ps, the composition of phospholipids within the bilayer strongly influences channel activity. To examine the molecular details of K2P lipid modulation, we solved cryo-EM structures of the TREK1 K2P channel bound to either the anionic lipid phosphatidic acid (PA) or the zwitterionic lipid phosphatidylethanolamine (PE). At the extracellular face of TREK1, a PA lipid inserts its hydrocarbon tail into a pocket behind the selectivity filter, causing a structural rearrangement that recapitulates mutations and pharmacology known to activate TREK1. At the cytoplasmic …

Evaluating Differences Between Ground-Based And Satellite-Derived Measurements Of Urban Heat: The Role Of Land Cover Classes In Portland, Oregon And Washington, D.C., Vivek Shandas, Yasuyo Makido, Aakash Nath Upraity

Urban Studies and Planning Faculty Publications and Presentations

The distinction between satellite-based land surface temperature (LST) and air temperature has become an increasingly important part of managing urban heat islands. While the preponderance of urban heat research relies on LST, the emergence of a growing infrastructure of publicly available consumer oriented, ground-based sensor networks has offered an alternative for characterizing microscale differences in temperatures. Recent evidence suggests large differences between LST and air temperatures, yet discerning the reason for these differences between satellite-derived measurements of urban heat islands (UHI) and ground-based measurements of air temperature remains largely unresolved. In this study, we draw on an unusually robust and …

Biobased energy, particularly corn starch-based ethanol and other liquid renewable fuels, is a major element of federal and state energy policies in the United States. These policies are motivated by energy security and climate change mitigation objectives, but corn ethanol does not substantially reduce greenhouse gas emissions when compared to petroleum-based fuels in all production scenarios. Corn production also imposes substantial negative externalities (e.g., nitrogen leaching, higher food prices, water scarcity, and indirect land use change). In this paper, we utilize a partial equilibrium model of corn-soy production and trade to analyze the potential of reduced US demand for corn …

Rank And Analysis Several Solutions Of Healthcare Waste To Achieve Cost Effectiveness And Sustainability Using Neutrosophic Mcdm Model, Ahmed Abdelhafeez, Hoda K. Mohamed, Nariman A. Khalil

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications

Managing healthcare waste (HCWTT) from healthcare facilities is difficult. It's high up on the list of health concerns. This growth in HCWTT has been especially visible in recent years, as the quantity of medical services available has increased. Because of the potential danger, this garbage poses to people and the planet, it must be properly disposed of. Because of ineffective waste management practices, inadequate financial resources, and a lack of adequate facilities, HCWT administration is especially crucial in developing nations. Reducing HCWT via appropriate treatment is important for the area's financial and environmental health. In order to solve single-valued neutrosophic …

Sootlib: A Soot Model Library For Combustion Simulation, Victoria B. Stephens, Joshua Bedwell, Alex J. Josephson, Keturah Oldham, David O. Lignell

Faculty Publications

Soot formation in combustion is an important process that affects radiative heat transfer, flame temperatures, and emissions with health and environmental impacts. Soot formation involves complex chemistry for nucleation, growth, oxidation, and coagulation processes. The soot particles vary widely in size and accurate modeling requires representation of the particle size distribution (PSD). Modeling soot is not trivial, and is only one of several physical processes active in combustion systems. This paper presents a software package called SootLib, which is an open-source library for modeling soot formation and other aerosol systems. SootLib is written in C++, is documented with Doxygen, and …

The United Nations projects that one in every six people will be over the age of 65 by the year 2050. With a rapidly aging population, the risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) becomes a major concern. AD is a multifactorial disease that involves neurodegeneration in the brain with mild dementia and deficits in memory and other cognitive domains. Additionally, it has been established that individuals with Human Immunodeficiency Virus-1 (HIV-1) experience a 5 to 10-year accelerated aging and an increased risk of developing HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND). Despite a significant amount of clinical evidence pointing towards a potential overlap between …
