Pusa sibirica, the Baikal seal, is the only extant, exclusively freshwater, pinniped species. The pending issue is, how and when they reached their current habitat—the rift lake Baikal, more than three thousand kilometers away from the Arctic Ocean. To explore the demographic history and genetic diversity of this species, we generated a de novo chromosome-length assembly, and compared it with three closely related marine pinniped species. Multiple whole genome alignment of the four species compared with their karyotypes showed high conservation of chromosomal features, except for three large inversions on chromosome VI. We found the mean heterozygosity of the studied …

Temporal And Spatial Properties Of Orientation Summary Statistic Representations, Jacob S. Zepp Feb 2023

Temporal And Spatial Properties Of Orientation Summary Statistic Representations, Jacob S. Zepp

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The aim of the current work was to determine the amount of information that contributes to the formation of summary statistical representations (SSRs), as well as the time course over which these representations are formed. While the prevailing interpretation of SSRs within literature is that the summaries are formed through a compulsory rapid integration across all information in a scene, debate exists on the necessity of this unique processing mode. To investigate the formation of SSRs, two experiments were conducted. In the first, results from an orientation averaging task were compared to results from a whole-report task, over equivalent stimulus …

Jurnal Pendidikan: Teori, Penelitian, dan Pengembangan

This study aims to investigate how online learning self-efficacy, self-regulated learning, and achievement motivation affect students' academic performance in online courses during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study participants were students from the Office Administration Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Surabaya. We used structural equation modelling (SEM) to measure the direct and indirect effects of the structural model. The results show that online learning self-efficacy positively affects self-regulated learning, achievement motivation, and academic performance. However, self-regulated learning and achievement motivation do not affect academic performance, and also do not mediate the relationship between online learning self-efficacy and academic performance.

Analog Holographic Wavefront Sensor For Defocus And Spherical Aberration Measurement Recorded In A Photopolymer, Emma Branigan, Suzanne Martin, Matthew Sheehan, Kevin Murphy

Articles

An analog holographic wavefront sensor (AHWFS), for measurement of low and high order (defocus and spherical aberration) aberration modes has been developed as volume phase holograms in a photopolymer recording medium. This is the first time that high order aberrations such as spherical aberration can be sensed using a volume hologram in a photosensitive medium. Both defocus and spherical aberration were recorded in a multi-mode version of this AHWFS. Refractive elements were used to generate a maximum and minimum phase delay of each aberration which were multiplexed as a set of volume phase holograms in an acrylamide based-photopolymer layer. The …

“Exploring The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Universal Electronic Medical Records”, Zachary Mcclenny

Honors Theses

A universal electronic medical record (EMR) is a platform where all of a patient's medical information, history, and data is stored and maintained by providers over time. A universal platform allows all of the medications, tests, procedures, labs, scans, notes, and any other clinical information for that patient to be kept in a record for any provider to view and make changes to while under their care. Although in the United States today, as well as many other countries, EMRs are owned and operated by privately ran businesses and institutions. Only the private institutions that have access to the EMR …

What Drives India’S Financial Integration?, Rakesh Padhan, K. P. Prabheesh Feb 2023

What Drives India’S Financial Integration?, Rakesh Padhan, K. P. Prabheesh

Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking

We explore the determinants of Financial Integration (FI) in the Indian context from 1996Q2-2018Q4. Using a newly constructed quarterly financial integration index based on the stock of external assets and liabilities position and a range of econometric methodologies, we find that a structural factor (trade openness) and an institutional factor (institutional quality) drive financial integration in India. Our findings also show the importance of exchange rate volatility, global growth rate, and global interest rate in determining India’s financial integration. These findings have crucial implications in designing the policy framework for achieving higher financial integration in India.

Approximating Scaffold Printability Utilizing Computational Methods, Ashkan Sedigh, Pejman Ghelich, Jacob Quint, Evelyn C Mollocana-Lara, Mohamadmahdi Samandari, Ali Tamayol, Ryan E. Tomlinson

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Faculty Papers

Bioprinting facilitates the generation of complex, three-dimensional (3D), cell-based constructs for various applications. Although multiple bioprinting technologies have been developed, extrusion-based systems have become the dominant technology due to the diversity of materials (bioinks) that can be utilized, either individually or in combination. However, each bioink has unique material properties and extrusion characteristics that affect bioprinting utility, accuracy, and precision. Here, we have extended our previous work to achieve high precision (i.e. repeatability) and printability across samples by optimizing bioink-specific printing parameters. Specifically, we hypothesized that a fuzzy inference system (FIS) could be used as a computational method to address …

Toll-Like Receptor 4 Signaling In Osteoblasts Is Required For Load-Induced Bone Formation In Mice, Ibtesam Rajpar, Gaurav Kumar, Paolo Fortina, Ryan E. Tomlinson Feb 2023

Toll-Like Receptor 4 Signaling In Osteoblasts Is Required For Load-Induced Bone Formation In Mice, Ibtesam Rajpar, Gaurav Kumar, Paolo Fortina, Ryan E. Tomlinson

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Faculty Papers

In mature bone, NGF is produced by osteoblasts following mechanical loading and signals through resident sensory nerves expressing its high affinity receptor, neurotrophic tyrosine kinase receptor type 1 (TrkA), to support bone formation. Here, we investigated whether osteoblastic expression of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), a key receptor in the NF-κB signaling pathway, is required to initiate NGF-TrkA signaling required for load-induced bone formation. Although Tlr4 conditional knockout mice have normal skeletal mass and strength in adulthood, the loss of TLR4 signaling significantly reduced lamellar bone formation following loading. Inhibition of TLR4 signaling reduced Ngf expression in primary osteoblasts and RNA …

Tranexamic Acid Administration Routes For Total Knee Arthroplasty, Christopher Ryan Lonis Feb 2023

Tranexamic Acid Administration Routes For Total Knee Arthroplasty, Christopher Ryan Lonis

Group: Samford University Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing

Patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) present unique challenges for healthcare providers. With these procedures, blood loss is a major complication that can lead to anemia, delayed wound healing, joint contractures, and increased infection risk. The intra-operative administration of tranexamic acid (TXA) via peri-articular, intra-articular, or intravenous (IV) routes can lead to reduced blood loss and diminished transfusion requirements for patients post-operatively. The IV administration route only allows a small portion of the agent to reach the target tissue. In addition, the systemic effects and increased risk of venous thromboembolism associated with intravenous TXA can cause concern for specific patient …

In support of GM’s traction battery efforts, we derived and implemented a method to describe the electrochemical performance of a battery cell considering the nuances of the electrode microstructure at the anode and the cathode and the corresponding impact on the electrochemical transport in the solid and liquid phases. To assess the capability of the method, we compared model results from the microstructure framework with the commonly used continuum-level porous electrode model, commonly referred to as the pseudo-2-dimensional model, or the Newman Model. The microstructure modeling framework was applied to simulate the electrochemical and transport processes within the battery cell …
