Objective: The objective of this retrospective study was to compare the retinal RNA expression in mouse pups exposed to oxygen-induced retinopathy with the blood RNA profile of extremely premature newborns during the first two weeks of life, specifically from days 7 to 14 of life.

Background Stillbirths and early neonatal deaths remain common in low- and middle-income countries. Maternal infections are likely contributors, but data are extremely limited. We aimed to describe maternal infections at delivery and their association with perinatal death.

Methods We investigated maternal infections at delivery in two hospitals in East Africa: in Kilifi County Hospital (2011–2017), Kenya, and Hiwot Fana Comprehensive Specialised Hospital (2019–2020), Ethiopia. Much of the interoception literature assumes that people can accurately detect their heart rate, stomach contractility, muscle tension, and other biological cues. This is not true. Instead, interoception is an active integrative psychological process where the feeling of one’s internal state emerges from physiological signals, contextual cues, and the social and cultural experiences of living in a body. Thinking of interoception this way shifts the focus from measuring accuracy at detecting biological signaling to studying lived experience. Programming DNA-binding proteins is an effective strategy for developing therapeutics that regulate gene expression. These proteins can directly bind to DNA to activate or repress transcription of specific genes. Zinc finger proteins are a class of DNA-binding proteins commonly found in eukaryotic organisms. Their DNA-binding function is derived from unique amino acid sequences within each domain that recognizes specific nucleotides, allowing each finger to selectively recognize three DNA base pairs. Adjoining of multiple domains in tandem allows recognition of a specific DNA sequence. This article advances a methodological shift in narrative identity research by addressing the field’s protagonist bias – the tendency to rely on first-person autobiographical accounts as the primary evidence for identifying cultural master narratives. We integrate Erikson’s psychosocial identity framework, Vygotsky’s “tool and result” methodological insight, and sociolinguistic approaches to narrative to develop a three-stage analytic logic: (1) identifying small-n narratives through scenes conveyed in discourse; (2) grouping these into Big-N narratives that cohere thematically across scenes (Tannen, 2007, 2008); and (3) assessing candidate master narratives using McLean and Syed’s (2016) five criteria. Despite the availability of an effective live-attenuated vaccine, the disease remains endemic in regions of Africa and South America. Transmission occurs primarily via an infected mosquito called Aedes aegypti, with distinct urban, sylvatic, and intermediate transmission cycles. Clinically, infection ranges from mild febrile illness to severe disease, which is characterized by jaundice, hemorrhage, and multiorgan failure. Non-sterile gloves (NSG) are essential for reducing transmission of pathogens and for protecting patients and staff. Their overconsumption can lead not only to an increased risk of cross-contamination but also increased plastic waste and downstream environmental effects. Glove reduction campaigns worldwide have safely and successfully reduced their inappropriate use and associated waste. In this multidisciplinary commentary, we discuss the sweeping public health and environmental consequences of NSG overuse and strategies to implement a successful glove stewardship campaign.

PURPOSE: The MTXPK.org webtool facilitates model-informed supportive care and glucarpidase use in patients receiving high-dose methotrexate, but its reliance on manual data entry limits workflow integration. We aimed to highlight how translational informatics can advance, automate, and enhance the usability of clinical decision support tools by embedding MTXPK.org within the electronic health record (EHR).

METHODS: A human factors study with 6 clinical providers guided iterative prototype development. MTXPK.org was rebuilt within the EHR using a 3-tier architecture with Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources-based data retrieval, automated pharmacokinetic modeling, and interactive visualization.

Complex geometry and varying land cover make urban environments difficult to simulate accurately. This research presents a performance evaluation of the newly developed urban modeling system in the Model for Prediction Across Scales (MPAS). Weather over the New York metropolitan area during June 2018 was simulated using supercomputing resources and the new urban modeling system. Modeled 2-m air temperature was compared with historical hourly observations from five NYC Mesonet stations, one located in each of the five boroughs. Comparison showed that the model follows the timing of warming and cooling well, but overestimates the magnitude of temperature swings at peaks …
