When complement and object appears all together in one sentence, some verbs can be reduplicated, can not be reduplicated, or can be both reduplicated or not be reduplicated. Reduplicated verb’s example: Ta jiao zhongwen jiao le liang ge xiaoshi ‘He has been teaching Mandarin Chinese for two hours’. Verb can or can not be reduplicated depends on the complement types, the verb meaning and the object charactheristic. This paper will analyze this construction semantically, syntactically, and pragmatically.

The transition into high school presents new challenges for adolescents and performance in ninth grade is highly predictive of success throughout the remainder of high school. However, focus on teacher performance has great promise for increasing student engagement in the classroom and raising student achievement. Unfortunately, many of these practices typically are not implemented within classrooms where students are at highest risk for failure. Two studies were implemented to examine the effect of simple performance feedback strategies as a means of increasing teachers’ provision of opportunities for student responses and positive feedback during instruction. Providing effective instruction that increases the degree to which students are engaged with the instructional content has been identified as a research-based practice in that it is associated with positive academic and behavioral outcomes. One high-leverage practice for engaging students is the provision of opportunities to respond (OTR) during instruction. However, previous research has shown that teachers at every level typically use OTRs at rates far below research-based recommendations. This study adds to the literature by breaking OTRs into verbal, non-verbal, and partner categories to further examine how teachers typically foster student engagement. A user equipment (UE) employs a Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC) suspend algorithm when the UE is in an out-of-service (OOS) condition. When a modem of the UE exits an OOS sleep mode and enters an active mode (sometimes referred to as “waking up”) for network signal scanning, the UE modem also sends a polling message (e.g., a status report) to one or more UICC Subscriber Identity Modules (SIMs) of the UE. Currently, cluster formation through a network management system (NMS) within a software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) is a manual, multi-step process that is error-prone and time-consuming and which requires multiple interventions (along with validations) by a user at each and every intermediate step. Moreover, that process is extremely difficult to scale with the increased cluster sizes that are required in larger deployments. To address the types of challenges that were described above, techniques are presented herein that support an end-to-end automation of the above-described cluster provisioning process. During the past decade, there has been an increasing amount of research demonstrating a positive relationship between early childhood social-emotional abilities and later life outcomes. As such, practitioners who work with preschool-aged children are called to understand the social-emotional abilities that constitute healthy development. Doing so provides practitioners with a social-emotional framework from which to work so that they may efficiently assess and intervene in these abilities. This manuscript grounds social-emotional abilities within the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning’s (CASEL) Framework for Social-Emotional Learning (SEL). There are myriad of mind body health (MBH) interventions that are effective for the preschool population. Supports may include, yet are not limited to, journal expression, yoga, music therapy, mindfulness, video self-modeling, and muscle relaxation. These particular interventions have resulted in positive changes for preschoolers with anxiety, depression, stress, and attention, as well as various physical conditions. Benefits of these MBH interventions include being effective with respect to teacher time, economically feasible, and are well-received by parents, teachers, and preschoolers.

The present study uses both quantitative and qualitative approaches to examine: (1) U.S. and Mexican children’s ability to understand basic relational concepts in directions; and (2) to analyze language arts and math textbooks to determine the levels of complexity in directions (i.e., number of qualifiers or concepts embedded in the directions). A total of 265 first grade (n = 128) and second-grade (n = 137) children in Mexico were assessed using the Boehm Test of Basic Concepts-Revised (BTBC-R) Applications Booklet. Their performance was compared to the U.S. standardized sample of the BTBC-R to make cross-cultural comparisons. Results from the quantitative …

Children’s social and emotional experiences influence brain development and are therefore central to outcomes of behavior, learning, and health. The current study examined associations between children’s cumulative educational assets in the early grades and end of first grade social-emotional outcomes for children from English- and Spanish-speaking families. Data were drawn from a sample of preschool-aged children (N = 1,132) from low-income families in a large, culturally, and linguistically diverse sample followed annually from pre-kindergarten through first grade. Sensitive, consistent caregiving and a secure attachment style are important to healthy child development. However, the lack of continuity in measures from infancy into adulthood limits conclusions regarding the stability of attachment styles across the lifespan. A new measure, the Emotional Attachment Zones Evaluation (EA-Z), derived from the Emotional Availability Scales (Biringen, 2008; Biringen, Robinson, & Emde, 1998), offers a tool to assess attachment style across a broad developmental spectrum. Our environment faces different challenges. Environmental engineers find solutions at the interface between humans and the environment. Technology innovation and inventive engineering design provide an approach to surmount the challenges. My research program focuses on environmental systems and processes. Particularly, we use physical and chemical principles to tackle water quality-related issues. Because water actively interacts with other environmental elements (e.g., air, soil, sediments, and solid waste), our efforts will ultimately benefit the whole environmental system. Although the Museum remains officially closed, it is possible to visit by appointment. Compared to most in our Society, she was a relative newcomer to opera and to Jussi’s heavenly tenor. As her exposure to the art form grew, she came to prefer more contemporary operatic works to the more traditional classics, but she recognized superior singing when she heard it. She had sweeping connections in the Washington classical music scene, as well as inside key institutions like radio station WGMS, the Smithsonian and local museums and embassies. These connections became increasingly useful over the years, as Washington became our favorite gathering place.

Short weeks after Jussi Björling’s death in September of 1960, Bertil Hagman launched himself on an ambitious project: to record reminiscences of the great tenor while those memories were still fresh. Hagman interviewed several dozen friends and colleagues who knew Jussi and had performed with him, and by the end of 1960 had published Jussi Björling en Minnesbok (JB A Memory Book).
