Drone-Based Computer Vision-Enabled Vehicle Dynamic Mobility And Safety Performance Monitoring, Guohui Zhang, Runze Yuan, Panos Prevedouros, Tianwei Ma Jan 2023

Drone-Based Computer Vision-Enabled Vehicle Dynamic Mobility And Safety Performance Monitoring, Guohui Zhang, Runze Yuan, Panos Prevedouros, Tianwei Ma

CSET Project Reports

This report documents the research activities to develop a drone-based computer vision-enabled vehicle dynamic safety performance monitoring in Rural, Isolated, Tribal, or Indigenous (RITI) communities. The acquisition of traffic system information, especially the vehicle speed and trajectory information, is of great significance to the study of the characteristics and management of the traffic system in RITI communities. The traditional method of relying on video analysis to obtain vehicle number and trajectory information has its application scenarios, but the common video source is often a camera fixed on a roadside device. In the videos obtained in this way, vehicles are likely …

Loss-Of-Function KCa2.2 Mutations Abolish Channel Activity, Young-Woo Nam, Mohammad Asikur Rahman, Grace Yang, Razan Orfali, Meng Cui, Miao Zhang

Pharmacy Faculty Articles and Research

Small-conductance Ca2+-activated potassium channels subtype 2 (KCa2.2, also called SK2) are operated exclusively by a Ca2+-calmodulin gating mechanism. Heterozygous genetic mutations of KCa2.2 channels have been associated with autosomal dominant neurodevelopmental disorders including cerebellar ataxia and tremor in humans and rodents. Taking advantage of these pathogenic mutations, we performed structure-function studies of the rat KCa2.2 channel. No measurable current was detected from HEK293 cells heterologously expressing these pathogenic KCa2.2 mutants. When co-expressed with the KCa2.2_WT channel, mutations of the pore-lining amino acid residues (I360M, Y362C, G363S …

Student Publications [Scholarly]

Introduction:
Substance use disorders (SUDs) take an enormous toll on US Veterans and civilians alike. Existing empirically supported interventions vary by substance and demonstrate only moderate efficacy. Non-invasive brain stimulation represents an innovative treatment for SUDs, yet aspects of traditional neurostimulation may hinder its implementation in SUD populations. Synchronised transcranial magnetic stimulation (sTMS) uses rotating rare earth magnets to deliver low-field stimulation synchronised to an individual's alpha peak frequency that is safe for at-home administration. The current trial aims to assess the acceptability and feasibility of sTMS, as well as the safety of at-home sTMS administration for substance-disordered Veterans.

A Non-Reference Evaluation Of Underwater Image Enhancement Methods Using A New Underwater Image Dataset, Ashraf Saleem, Sidike Paheding, Nathir Rawashdeh, Ali Awad, Navjot Kaur

Michigan Tech Publications, Part 1

The rise of vision-based environmental, marine, and oceanic exploration research highlights the need for supporting underwater image enhancement techniques to help mitigate water effects on images such as blurriness, low color contrast, and poor quality. This paper presents an evaluation of common underwater image enhancement techniques using a new underwater image dataset. The collected dataset is comprised of 100 images of aquatic plants taken at a shallow depth of up to three meters from three different locations in the Great Lake Superior, USA, via a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) equipped with a high-definition RGB camera. In particular, we use our …

Sensitivity Of Puff Dynamics And Airborne Droplet Nuclei Distribution To Variations In Violent Expiration Events, M. Allahyari, K. Liu (刘凯), J. Salinas, ‪Nadim Zgheib, S. Balachandar Jan 2023

Sensitivity Of Puff Dynamics And Airborne Droplet Nuclei Distribution To Variations In Violent Expiration Events, M. Allahyari, K. Liu (刘凯), J. Salinas, ‪Nadim Zgheib, S. Balachandar

Mechanical Engineering Faculty Publications

We use large eddy simulations to investigate the puff and droplet dynamics from violent expiratory events such as coughs and sneezes in the first few seconds following an ejection. For each of the eleven simulations considered, over 60,000 droplets are ejected and individually tracked using the point-particle Euler–Lagrange approach. We test the sensitivity of the puff and droplet dynamics to various parameters including the ejection volume, momentum, and orientation. We also explore the effect of the mouth shape on the aforementioned dynamics by considering elliptical and circular inlet cross-sections. The results from the simulations compare favorably with a recent theoretical …

Development Of Hicah Learning Media (Count Fractions) For Blind Students In Makassar, Wahyudi Hn, Muzayyinah Al-Usrah, Yoga Indar Dewa

Journal of ICSAR

This study aims to determine the feasibility of the media, student responses, and teacher responses to Hicah learning media (count fractions) for blind students in Makassar. This research is development research using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, dan Evaluation). The analysis stage is used to find out about the problems and needs of students, the design stage makes media prototypes according to student needs, then the development is carried out media validation, implementation as a media trial, and evaluation by revising to adjust the results of field trials. The results of this study are: (1) The results of …

Application Of Universal Design Principles In Public Spaces For Persons With Disabilities, Mardhatillah Zulpiani, Endang Rusyani Jan 2023

Application Of Universal Design Principles In Public Spaces For Persons With Disabilities, Mardhatillah Zulpiani, Endang Rusyani

Journal of ICSAR

People with disabilities also need ease of accessibility anywhere that allows them to do all the activities without any interruption of access in order to realize the similarity of opportunity in all aspects of life and livelihood that will aim to realize the independence of those who have obstacles, both physical, intellectual and other. Ease of access to public space is one of the rights to which are owned by them, therefore we need to pay attention to universal design principles so that they also get the right and the opportunity to enjoy the facilities provided by the government. Urgency Of Soft-Skill Development In Vocational Education For Children With Special Needs, Sylvi Noor Aini, Budi Susetyo, Ranti Novianti, Gena Diniarti, Salma Nadiyah

Journal of ICSAR

This study aims to describe the relationship of striving for superiority as a soft skill to learning motivation. The approach used is a quantitative approach with descriptive methods in deaf students with a sample of Cerebral Palsy students in Bandung Regency. Correlative testing is performed using spearman correlation tests between striving for superiority variables and learning motivation variables. The results showed that striving for superiority has a very strong correlation to learning motivation so that it becomes an aspect that must be developed in vocational education as part of soft skills. Striving for superiority can help learners deal with various …

Development Of Application For Early Intervention Speech Therapy In Children With Intellectual Disability, Fairus Niratama, Wagino Wagino, Wiwik Widajati, Sri Joeda Andajani

Journal of ICSAR

This study aims to describe the stages of the speech therapy application development process. This research produces an android application product that can be used in early intervention in speech therapy for children with intellectual disabilities. This development research is based on the development method of Gall, et al. (2007), and only carried out up to five stages, namely: 1) Research and information collecting (searching and collecting data), 2) Planning, 3) Develop preliminary form of product, 4) Preliminary field testing, 5) Main product revision. The data collection method in the form of a Likert scale was used in this study. …
