Uranium Concentrations In Soil Samples From The North Of Basrah Governorate, Thaer M. Salman, Mostafa A. Algrifi

In the College of Education for Pure Sciences Ibn al-Haytham, irradiation of soil samples was conducted to obtain measurements of uranium content in soil samples using CR-39 in 36 surface soil samples from selected sites (some of which, according to the authors, were measured for the first time) in the North Governorate Basra. It was found that uranium concentrations ranged from (1.1 ppm) in the Al Madina center to (1.6 ppm) in Talha. Results are presented and compared with other research findings. The concentration of uranium in the governorates north of Basra has been presented and evaluated in this article. …

The AIDS Memorial Quilt Feb. 7 -11, the National AIDS Memorial, Southern AIDS Coalition (SAC), and Gilead Sciences will showcase two major displays of the AIDS Quilt at two HBCU campuses -- Dillard University in New Orleans and Southern University & A&M College in Baton Rouge. The five-day AIDS Quilt displays, taking place during Black History Month, are free to the public and include quilting workshops, educational forums, and student events.

BACKGROUND: Preterm birth is a significant contributor to neonatal morbidity and mortality. Despite legislative efforts to increase pediatric drug development, neonatal clinical trials continue to be infrequent. The International Neonatal Consortium (INC) includes nurses as key stakeholders in their mission to accelerate safe and effective therapies for neonates.

PURPOSE: INC developed a survey for nurses, physicians, and parents to explore communication practices and stakeholders' perceptions and knowledge regarding clinical trials in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs).

Background:Peer-to-peer (P2P) learning occurs when individuals from similar social groups or professions help each other to learn new knowledge skills or problem solving. Peer-to-peer learning is used across many disciplines but has not been widely studied in primary care or chronic disease management. The life cycle of plastic is a key source of carbon emissions. Yet, global plastics production has quadrupled in 40 years and only 9 % has been recycled. If these trends continue, carbon emissions from plastic wastes would reach 15 % of global carbon budgets by 2050. An approach to reducing plastic waste is to use distributed recycling for additive manufacturing (DRAM) where virgin plastic products are replaced by locally manufactured recycled plastic products that have no transportation-related carbon emissions. Background

Osteomyelitis in children may produce severe sequelae. However, the frequency and distribution of such complications by type of osteomyelitis (chronic or acute) is not well described.

Methods

We searched the HealthFacts® database (containing medical information on 68 million individual patients in the United States) with 238 International Classification of Diseases (ICD) version 10 codes for acute osteomyelitis and chronic osteomyelitis appearing in 2015. Outcomes were recorded for each subject, including development of limb length discrepancies, pathologic fractures, mortality, and need for multiple surgeries or prolonged orthopedic care (one to two years following diagnosis).
