Infusing systems thinking activities in pre-college education (grades K-12) means updating precollege education so it includes a study of many systemic behavior patterns that are ubiquitous in the real world. Systems thinking tools include those using both paper and pencil and the computer and enhance learning in the classroom making it more student-centered, more active, and allowing students to analyze problems that have been heretofore beyond the scope of K-12 classrooms. Fetal Demise And Wernicke–Korsakoff Syndrome In A Patient With Hyperemesis Gravidarum: A Case Report, Alisa Olmsted, Andrea Desimone, Jahaira Lopez-Pastrana, Madeleine Becker

Background: Wernicke–Korsakoff syndrome is a neuropsychiatric disorder caused by thiamine deficiency composed of two related disorders accounting for an acute presentation and chronic progression. Hyperemesis gravidarum presents a significant risk factor for Wernicke–Korsakoff syndrome as symptoms may rapidly progress in the setting of pregnancy. We present the first-reported case of hyperemesis-gravidarum-associated Wernicke encephalopathy in a patient in the first half of pregnancy in which a missed diagnosis led to septic shock, fetal demise, and eventual profound Korsakoff syndrome.

Diffuse-type tenosynovial giant cell tumors' (D-TGCTs) intra- and extra-articular expansion about the knee often necessitates an anterior and posterior surgical approach to facilitate an extensive synovectomy. There is no consensus on whether two-sided synovectomies should be performed in one or two stages. This retrospective study included 191 D-TGCT patients from nine sarcoma centers worldwide to compare the postoperative short-term outcomes between both treatments. Secondary outcomes were rates of radiological progression and subsequent treatments. Between 2000 and 2020, 117 patients underwent one-stage and 74 patients underwent two-stage synovectomies. CRISPR/Cas 9 is a bacterial defense system for editing genomes that has been coined one of the most monumental biotechnologies since the discovery of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Since 2012, two research teams, one out of the University of California, Berkeley, and the other from both the Broad Institute and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, have been battling an ongoing patent war. Female sex offenders are often portrayed in the media more leniently than male sex offenders, which could influence the way the public perceives these offenders. Further, the media is not always accurate in how they portray sex crimes either which can translate to misconceptions among the public specifically regarding sex offenders. The purpose of this research was to explore media coverage of teacher student sexual abuse in relation to the public’s reaction to these news stories. Thousands of scientists, researchers, students, and organizations consume government-produced data daily that are often difficult to locate because they are collected and stored in multiples at varying levels of quality, inhibiting their usefulness for data science investigations and analysis. To address these challenges, United States Government agencies and bureaus have been implementing Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) Data Principles into their data-sharing strategies since 2016. However, differing interpretations of the FAIR Data Principles lead to data that must be documented uniformly and adequately integrated for reuse. BACKGROUND: The association between P2Y12 receptor inhibitors reloading and in-hospital outcomes in non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTEACS) patients who were on chronic P2Y12 receptor inhibitors therapy remained underdetermined.

METHODS: The Improving Care for Cardiovascular Disease in China-Acute Coronary Syndrome (CCC-ACS project) is a national registry active from November 2014 to December 2019. 4790 NSTEACS patients on chronic P2Y12 receptor inhibitors therapy were included. Cox proportional hazard models, Kaplan-Meier curves, and subgroup analyses were conducted.

RESULTS: The NSTEACS patients who received reloading of P2Y12 receptor inhibitors were younger and had fewer comorbid conditions. The reloading group had a lower risk …

Insoluble plant cell walls are a main source of dietary fiber. Both chemical and physical fiber structures create distinct niches for gut bacterial utilization. Here, we have taken key fermentable solubilized polysaccharides of plant cell walls and fabricated them back into cell wall-like film forms to understand how fiber physical structure directs gut bacterial fermentation outcomes. Solubilized corn bran arabinoxylan (Cax), extracted to retain some ferulate residues, was covalently linked using laccase to form an insoluble cell wall-like film (Cax-F) that was further embedded with pectin (CaxP-F). Social surveys normally assume that respondents adhere to a single religious faith in belonging, believing, and practicing congruently. Some surveys even take religious identity as the singular measure of religiosity and examine its relationship with other variables. This practice, however, fails to capture nonexclusive and hybrid religiosity, which is arguably the traditional and normal pattern in East Asia while becoming increasingly common in the West. We have developed a new set of survey questions and conducted a survey among East Asian international students at an American university. The utilization of ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia (UGRA) has become a safe and effective means of providing perioperative pain management. Regional anesthesia is a desirable component of the multimodal approach to postoperative pain control, minimizing opioid consumption, recovery time, and inpatient hospital stay. One example of UGRA is the pectoral nerve (PECS) block for breast surgery pain control. Simulation-based regional anesthesia education can help develop student registered nurse anesthetists' knowledge, skills, and confidence, bridging the gap between initial training and clinical practice.
