PURPOSE Hands-on learning opportunities in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology are generally less available to medical students due to the intimate nature of the specialty. The University of New Mexico School of Medicine’s Obstetrics and Gynecology faculty have created and implemented a novel simulation curriculum in order to supplement hands-on learning practice for procedural, exam and clinical reasoning skills for medical students. METHODS Third-year medical students on their Obstetrics and Gynecology clerkship perform simulated tasks during a half-day session, typically in the second week of the six-week clerkship. Background: There is clear evidence in the psychology literature that beyond “people skills,” providers who give the patient an active role in developing the treatment plan can increase the adherence to the medical plan by 70%. Though this is utilized extensively in psychology, medical trainees are not routinely taught these communication skills. BACKGROUND: Microphthalmia, anophthalmia, and coloboma (MAC) spectrum disease encompasses a group of eye malformations which play a role in childhood visual impairment. Although the predominant cause of eye malformations is known to be heritable in nature, with 80% of cases displaying loss-of-function mutations in the ocular developmental genes OTX2 or SOX2, the genetic abnormalities underlying the remaining cases of MAC are incompletely understood. This study intended to identify the novel genes and pathways required for early eye development. Comparative analyses of genomic data reveal further insights into the phylogeny and taxonomic classification of butterflies presented here. As a result, 2 new subgenera and 2 new species of Hesperiidae are described: Borna Grishin, subgen. n. (type species Godmania borincona Watson, 1937) and Lilla Grishin, subgen. n. (type species Choranthus lilliae Bell, 1931) of Choranthus Scudder, 1872, Cecropterus (Murgaria) markwalkeri Grishin, sp. n. (type locality in Mexico: Sonora), and Hedone yunga Grishin, sp. n. Thirteen new fossil eucnemid taxa (Coleoptera: Elateroidea) are described from amber deposits excavated from the vicinity of Santiago, Dominican Republic. Two new genera, Mioxylobius and Paleo­quirsfeldia are described. The following 13 new species are described from Dominican amber: Mioxylobius bicolor, Balistica serrulata, Paleoquirsfeldia epicrana, Dyscharachthis dominicana, Idiotarsus poinari, Eurypty­chus antilliensis, Euryptychus hispaniolus, Plesiofornax caribica, Fornax dominicensis, Fornax serropalpoides, Dromaeolus argenteus, Nematodes miocenensis and Nematodes thoracicus. An updated list is given of 25 species of soft scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccidae) which have been intercepted on plants imported into South Korea during the period of 1996 to 2021. Information on the num­ber of interceptions, host plants, distribution and origin of species intercepted at South Korean ports of entry is provided. In addition, data on intercepted species was analyzed to determine potential invasive species of soft scales that could threaten South Korean plants.

To better understand the dung beetle (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae) biodiversity of Costa Rica and Panama, new synonyms, records, distributions, and updates are presented. This paper analyzes the distribution and taxonomy of Phanaeus olsoufieffi Balthasar, 1939 in Panama and establishes the following new subjective synonym: Phanaeus panamensis Moctezuma and Halffter, 2021 = Phanaeus olsoufieffi Balthasar, 1939. Color morphs of Phanaeus pyrois Bates, 1887 in Costa Rica are analyzed. The Costa Rican distribution of Onthophagus bidentatus Drapiez, 1819 and O. marginicollis Harold, 1880 is stud­ied. Onthophagus aeneopiceus d’Orbigny, 1902 (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Scarabaeinae: Onthophag­ini) is recorded for the first time for Yemen and for the Palaearctic region. An integration into the key to the Onthophagini from the Arabian Peninsula (Ziani et al. 2019), is provided.

After Ziani et al. (2019) and Montanaro and Ziani (2022), 30 Onthophagini species were known from the Arabian Peninsula. In this paper a 31st species is recorded: Onthophagus aeneopiceus d’Orbigny, 1902. The species, belong­ing to the 23rd group of d’Orbigny (1913) and until now known from Eastern Africa and, dubitatively, Ivory Coast (Schoolmeesters 2022), has been collected in Yemen. This is …

In the fall of 2022, our library began preparing for a renovation project by rapidly weeding our main stacks. Using our LSP reporting platform, Alma Analytics, as the primary data source, we automated a data pipeline to generate, collect, process, and update a data dashboard daily. Primary tools used were Alma Analytics, Power Automate, and PowerBI. The dashboard provides daily updates to reflect the project’s progress to everyone in the Library.

The techniques used for this project can be applied to many different scenarios. However, the ugly question remains – if you build it, will they care?

This chapter provides an overview of research instruments and technologies that can inform questions about language processing among study abroad learners. Specifically, we consider behavioral, eye-tracking, and electrophysiological methods. For each method, we provide a description of the approach, including how data are collected, analyzed, and interpreted. Then, we summarize findings from research employing the method that includes a study abroad context. Finally, we consider the limitations of the method and gaps in the extant literature, and provide guiding principles for researchers interested in utilizing the technique. Behavioral skills training (BST), a behavior analytic training model including instructions, modeling, rehearsal, and feedback, has been a widely effective training method for staff, caregivers, and students. Results from BST component analyses suggest that instructions, when presented without subsequent rehearsal and feedback, are often ineffective; however, the occurrence of the COVID-19 pandemic and the physical distancing measures required to prevent its spread have increased the need for easily disseminated virtual staff training models, particularly with respect to implementing activities of daily living programs which may further help to prevent the spread of infectious disease in the workplace. The LGBTQ+ community experiences unique health needs that many healthcare providers do not possess adequate training to address. This critical barrier to promoting the health of the LGBTQ+ population contributes to health disparities and discrimination. This is particularly salient for the transgender population who experience high rates of discrimination and have difficulty accessing gender affirming care (GAC). The World Professional Association for Transgender Health recommends an interprofessional team-based approach to providing GAC to gender diverse patients. The mental status exam (MSE) is a tool used in psychiatry and behavioral health to create a cross-sectional assessment of the emotional, behavioral, and cognitive status of patients. In 2021, the UNM Health Science’s Library and Informatics Center formed a Justice, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. In response to an upset student’s feedback about the lack of menstrual products on campus, one of the first actions of the Committee was to set up a free menstrual product program at the library. After initial research about what other libraries and institutions had done, pads, panty liners, and tampons were placed in all library restrooms.
