The present study examines Abū ʿAmr ibn al-ʿAlāʾ (d. 154/770), an important scholar whose life coincided with the rise of the various disciplines of Qur’anic philology. I examine his contribution to the field Qur’anic philology, focusing on three distinct yet overlapping genres: Qur’anic chronology, Qur’anic counting, and variant readings. Because these genres were still in development during his time, the material examined in this thesis allows us to examine their state before they reached full development. As we do not have a written corpus by Abū ʿAmr, we will analyse material that was transmitted by his students and preserved in …

Facial fractures, specifically orbitozygomatic and zygomaticomaxillary complex fractures, are well-documented and common injuries. Pseudoaneurysm formation following cerebrovascular blunt trauma is a rarely experienced complication with an incidence rate of less than 1% with only a few cases reported in the literature. Traumatic pseudoaneurysm formation of the sphenopalatine artery (SPA), the deepest branch of the maxillary artery, is extremely rare due to the deep location of the SPA and its protection from bony landmarks. In craniofacial trauma, pseudoaneurysm formation is not apparent on physical examination due to its deep location and usually presents as persistent nasal bleeding. SPA pseudoaneurysms can present …

• Central metabolism produces amino and fatty acids for protein and lipids that establish seed value. Biosynthesis of storage reserves occurs in multiple organelles that exchange central intermediates including two essential metabolites, malate, and pyruvate that are linked by malic enzyme. Malic enzyme can be active in multiple subcellular compartments, partitioning carbon and reducing equivalents for anabolic and catabolic requirements. Prior studies based on isotopic labeling and steady-state metabolic flux analyses indicated malic enzyme provides carbon for fatty acid biosynthesis in plants, though genetic evidence confirming this role is lacking. Animals ranging from mosquitoes to humans often vary their feeding behavior when infected or merely exposed to pathogens. These so-called “sickness behaviors” are part of the innate immune response with many consequences, including avoiding orally transmitted pathogens. Fully understanding the role of this ubiquitous behavior in host defense and pathogen evolution requires a quantitative account of its impact on host and pathogen fitness across environmentally relevant contexts. Here, we use a zooplankton host and fungal pathogen as a case study to ask if infection-mediated feeding behaviors vary across pathogen exposure levels and natural genetic variation in susceptibility to infection. This CLE program explains why attorneys representing survivors of domestic violence should understand and use community resources as part of effective legal advocacy. Leaving an abusive relationship can create immediate risks involving safety, housing, finances, transportation, childcare, and emotional health. These barriers can affect a survivor’s stability, decision-making, and ability to participate effectively in a legal case. Drawing on survivor and volunteer-attorney perspectives, the presenters show how appropriate referrals can strengthen both client outcomes and legal representation while keeping attorneys within their professional role.

Introduction: Cross-sectional surveys found behavioral heterogeneity among dual users of combustible and electronic cigarettes. Yet, prior classification did not reflect dynamic interactions between cigarette and e-cigarette consumption, which may reveal changes in product-specific dependence. The contexts of dual use that could inform intervention were also understudied.

Methods: This study conducted secondary analysis on 13 waves of data from 227 dual users who participated in a 2-year observational study. The k-means method for joint trajectories of cigarette and e-cigarette consumption was adopted to identify the subtypes of dual users. Technology, specifically human patient computer simulation, is replacing human exposure in clinical education (Nehring, 2010b). Kaakinen and Arwood (2009) discuss the need to apply learning theories to instructional designs involving simulation for successful learner-centered outcomes. Ecosystems constantly change, yet managers often lack information to move beyond static habitat assumptions. As human impacts and geographic information systems advance, it is important and feasible to quantify past habitat boundary shifts to inform management decisions (e.g. protective perimeters) robust to near-term habitat changes. This is the case in eelgrass (Zostera spp.), an ecosystem engineer that forms dynamic, often protected meadows. Practitioners protect areas to avoid human stress to eelgrass, but they can lack quantitative descriptions of the near-term potential for eelgrass meadows to shift into unprotected areas. Hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) is a prevalent medical condition in patients with cardiometabolic risk factors and is associated with an increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), if left undiagnosed and undertreated. Current guidelines identify HTG as a risk-enhancing factor and, as a result, recommend clinical evaluation and lifestyle-based interventions to address potential secondary causes of elevated triglyceride (TG) levels. For individuals with mild to moderate HTG at risk of ASCVD, statin therapy alone or in combination with other lipid-lowering medications known to decrease ASCVD risk are guideline-endorsed. Oxidative damage is one of the earliest events in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) pathogenesis and precedes the clinical stage of disease. The nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor (Nrf2) is activated in response to oxidative stress, which protects the brain from oxidative damage and AD pathogenesis. Although Nrf2-mediated oxidative stress response declines with age and becomes dysfunctional in AD brains, the mechanistic basis for this dysfunction is unknown. The aim of this paper is to introduce the concept of various types of compactness in neutrosophic topological space via grills. We shall generalize neutrosophic C - compact space and neutrosophic G - compact space and introduce C(G) - compact space in neutrosophic topological space with respect to grills. We shall call it as neutrosophic C - compact with respect to grills and term it as neutrosophic C(G) - compact space. We shall also investigate some of its basic properties and characterization theorems. We shall also study the neutrosophic quasi - H - closed space with respect to a grill.

Objective. To determine the acceptability of using extended reality (XR) relaxation training as a preventive treatment for pediatric migraine. Methods. Youths aged 10-17 years old with migraine were recruited from a specialty headache clinic and completed baseline measures evaluating their vestibular symptoms and attitudes about technology. The patients were then instructed in three XR-based relaxation training conditions (fully immersive virtual reality with and without neurofeedback, and augmented reality with neurofeedback), in counterbalanced order, and completed acceptability and side effect questionnaires after each. BACKGROUND: Tobacco exposure has been recognized as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and progression of kidney disease. Patients with proteinuric glomerulopathies are at increased risk for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Multiple studies have linked tobacco exposure to CVD and chronic kidney disease, but the relationships between smoking and proteinuric glomerulopathies in adults and children have not been previously explored.

METHODS: Data from the Nephrotic Syndrome Study Network (NEPTUNE), a multi-center prospective observational study of participants with proteinuric glomerulopathies, was analyzed. 371 adults and 192 children enrolled in NEPTUNE were included in the analysis. Abstract

Objective The accelerated involvement of private equity (PE) in ophthalmology has many potential implications for the future of the field. The aim of this study was to evaluate trainee perspectives on PE's impact on ophthalmology.

Methods An electronic survey was sent to trainees via an online ophthalmology research newsletter. The survey assessed for career goals and perspectives on the involvement of PE and its impact across a variety of attributes.

Significant multidisciplinary scientific effort has been undertaken to understand the heterogeneous family of neoplasms that comprise soft tissue sarcomas. Within this family of neoplasms, outcomes for retroperitoneal sarcomas (RPS) are currently limited given a lack of effective therapies. In this review, we focus on immunotherapy and its relationship with the common RPS histologic subtypes. Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare hematologic malignancy with historically poor outcomes and no worldwide consensus treatment approach. Unique among most hematologic malignancies for its frequent cutaneous involvement, BPDCN can also invade other extramedullary compartments, including the central nervous system. Generally affecting older adults, many patients are unfit to receive intensive chemotherapy, and although hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is preferred for younger, fit individuals, not all are eligible. One recent therapeutic breakthrough is that all BPDCNs express CD123 (IL3Rα) and that this accessible surface marker can be pharmacologically targeted.
