Carbon accumulation in the atmosphere is a major environmental impact of today's economy. To make carbon emissions costlier, ASEAN country members have different preferences. Some choose not to price the carbon yet, some choose carbon taxation first (regardless carbon trading follows later or not), and some choose carbon trading first (regardless carbon taxation follows later or not).

This study examines the legal framework of carbon trading, focusing on a comparative analysis of global warming mitigation strategies in Indonesia and Brazil. Using a normative juridical method, this research analyzes legal instruments, policies, and international commitments that shape carbon trading mechanisms in both countries. The primary issue explored is the effectiveness of regulatory frameworks in facilitating carbon trading to mitigate climate change while ensuring environmental sustainability and economic growth. Both Indonesia and Brazil have established carbon trading regulations in line with their commitments under the Paris Agreement. However, their implementation strategies differ significantly. Excessive demands for nickel have prompted massive mining extractions. The global north fascination towards the luscious natural resources owned by the global south has prompted visible environmental degradations. As one of the major global south exporters, Indonesia is bearing the ecological challenges. A smelting furnace in Sulawesi explodes, killing 21 people and injuring 38 others whilst the disposal of heavy metals pollutes the rivers. From Chains To Handcuffs: Confronting The Racial Legacy Of Prison Labor And The Urgency Of Reform, Hibah Hasan

Criminal Law Society Blog

This article examines prison labor in the United States as a system rooted in the 13th Amendment’s exception clause and shaped by post–Civil War practices such as Black Codes and convict leasing. It argues that, although formally abolished, the racialized logic of forced labor persists through modern mass incarceration, where incarcerated individuals—disproportionately Black men—perform essential work for little to no pay and without basic labor protections. The article analyzes how this system reflects a continuation of historical exploitation and proposes reforms, including fair compensation, voluntary participation, and expanded labor protections, to align prison labor with principles of rehabilitation and justice.

Food And Housing Insecurities Among Undergraduate Students: A Case Study Examining Academic And Social Integration, Brittany Profit-Rheinwald

New York Journal of Student Affairs

This single holistic case study examined how food and housing insecurities impacted the academic and social integration of five undergraduate students at a public regional university. Using Tinto's (1993) student integration theory as a framework, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, food and housing logs, and archival event records. Findings revealed that food and housing insecurities created significant barriers to academic success through stress, concentration difficulties, and class attendance challenges. Socially, students remained engaged through campus events offering free food, but avoided social activities requiring financial expenditure. Some academic departments provided food pantries, though access remained limited. Implications for practice …

Our collaborative inquiry into First Peoples’ governance unfolds through lived conversations in which Country, kinship, and institutional struggle are inseparable. In our dialogues, governance emerges not as theory, but as the everyday labour of navigating compliance cultures, fractured university systems, and the long fight for Aboriginal knowledge to be recognised and valued across the university, in curriculum, research and governance. These dialogues reveal how trust, relational accountability, and the authority of Country are continually undermined by corporatised structures, yet also how they persist in practice through story, protocol, and shared responsibility. This paper examines Sundiata: An Epic of Old Mali through the lens of the hero’s journey, tracing the boyhood, exile, and transformation of Sundiata as he prepares to restore Mali to peace and prosperity. Leadership is both an individual calling and a communal responsibility; true rulers depend not only on personal strength but also on the support and guidance of others. While in exile, Sundiata receives military, political, and supernatural training, all of which shape his identity as the epic’s hero and equip him to achieve his destiny. This research seeks to understand how to adapt to the needs of older adults in dance classes and answer the question, How can a dance curriculum be devised to increase social-emotional connection and well-being for senior adults? Utilizing autoethnographic research methods and qualitative surveys, this study followed residents at the Gracepoint Wellness Facility in Tampa, Florida, as they participated in sixteen weeks of dance classes that utilized Brain Compatible Dance Education methods.

This paper examines British-produced artworks that propagandized the idea of “Oriental despotism” and how this influenced the British public opinion of the colonial campaign in India. The focus of the paper is the colonial campaign against the Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan (1751–1799) and how the narrative of his reign was deemed despotic and his defeat therefore celebrated in British art. The construction of Tipu Sultan as an Oriental despot in British art and media was one of the greatest propaganda campaigns ever known. T/TB (tomboy), as a sociolinguistic category that denotes masculine lesbians in the Chinese-speaking world, has long been criticized by community members and Western academics alike for being too heteronormative and reductive in comparison to the post-identity queer figure in Western gender/sexual discourses. Through the detailed life histories of three T/TBs who moved to the United States for college, I problematize this East/West binary within queer geography and present a more nuanced framework to understanding queer migration and queer globalization. Giovanni Pico della Mirandola (c.1463–1494) has long been the subject of study for scholars of the Renaissance and philosophy more generally because of his syncretic philosophy that placed an emphasis on inner contemplation and magical practice. Fairy tales are a contested space in popular culture, often reinforcing hegemonic gender norms while offering sites of resistance. This paper examines Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid (1837) and Disney’s The Little Mermaid (1989) through feminist disability theory to explore how these stories depict the compulsion to perform able-bodiedness and heteronormativity to achieve social belonging. This paper argues that although both versions offer moments of queer and disabled subversion, they ultimately reinforce a cultural fantasy of normative embodiment by positioning mermaids as inherently Other and subhuman.
