All Decisions
In a holdover proceeding, the landlord, a cooperative, sought possession of a unit occupied by licensees of the lessee. The court granted the landlord's motion for summary judgment, striking the tenant's affirmative defenses, which alleged cure of conduct, untimely termination notice, and improper service. Key legal points include the court's deference to the cooperative board's decision under the business judgment rule, finding that a proprietary lease termination renders cure inconsequential and that an attorney without personal knowledge cannot dispute service. The court found the landlord's petition stated a valid cause of action for nuisance and the tenant failed to demonstrate …

Effect Of Covid-19 On Icu Nurse Burnout, Kayce Sheppard
Honors College Theses
Burnout is becoming increasingly worse for those in the nursing field after the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. While all nurses are at risk, ICU nurses are seen as at a higher risk for this increased burnout due to the already high stress environment they are subjected to in their unit. Without proper intervention of this issue, the levels of burnout are expected to continue to remain high, leading to job dissatisfaction, short staffing, and reduced patient satisfaction. The objective of this study is to review the level of burnout among ICU nurses. A burnout study was conducted on ICU …

Undernutrition and a lack of learning opportunities can jeopardize long-term growth and development among infants in low- and middle-income countries. We conducted a 6-month 2 × 2 cluster-randomized trial to assess the effects of multiple micronutrient-fortified beverages and responsive caregiving interventions among infants 6–18 months in 72 community sectors in southwest Guatemala. We administered baseline and endline assessments of childhood development (Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development) and socioemotional development (Brief Infant Toddler Socio-Emotional Assessment) and measured ferritin and hemoglobin on a subsample. The trial was analyzed using linear mixed models. At the baseline, the mean age (SD) was …

Exploring Lived Experiences Of Suicide Surviving Spouses: An Interpretive Phenomenological Qualitative Study, Amanda Jo Guin
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
A crippling concern that has swept the world and shown to be a significant public health issue is suicide. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2022) show suicide is among the top ten leading causes of death in ages 10–64. The survivors of suicide are at increased risk of adverse consequences. The purpose of this interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) study explores the lived experiences of spouses of suicide loss (SOSL) living in the United States (U.S.) regarding the spiritual change (SC), the process of suicide bereavement, and posttraumatic growth (PTG) within ten years post-loss. To better understand lived …
A Content Analysis And Comparison Of Beginning Band Methods And Beginning Studio Methods For Euphonium, Donald Joseph Palmire
A Content Analysis And Comparison Of Beginning Band Methods And Beginning Studio Methods For Euphonium, Donald Joseph Palmire
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Twenty-three beginning band method books are available in America, yet little pedagogical agreement exists concerning musical and technical elements. These variables emanate from the large ensemble design for each method. Certain starting pitches may enhance the overall beginning band experience while leaving the beginning euphonium student frustrated. These methods contain little substantive pedagogical framework that offers a thorough approach to musical growth. Many methods require the performance of pitches higher than the first partial. This requirement may cause embouchure malformation, negatively affecting their future flexibility and endurance. This qualitative study will codify the first pitches, pitch sequences, exercise ranges, rhythm …

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This study addresses the concept of religious doubt concerning those who embrace the Christian tradition, i.e., those who embrace the words and works of Christ, specifically the reality of the Resurrection, as true and efficacious for both salvation and spiritual formation. The existential crisis of doubting these truths is a consistent and significant issue addressed in both religious and secular circles driven by the desire to help the individual overcome the emotional distress associated with this phenomenon. This study is designating doubt that creates an existential crisis as emotional religious doubt (ERD), i.e., it is a species/variety of doubt that …

Catheter-associated urinary tract infections are a most common and preventable health care associated infection. Approximately 15% to 25% of hospitalized patients receive a urinary catheter during their hospital stay. The PICOT question that guided this quality improvement project was: How does a two-clinician indwelling urinary catheter insertion technique affect the CAUTI rate over one month in one unit? To answer the question, 19 high-quality studies that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were reviewed. These articles recommended using CAUTI bundle and champion training by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to reduce CAUTIs and catheter days. This evidence-based intervention …

Early pregnancy loss has a multidimensional effect on patients, touching the body, soul, and spirit. This project addresses patients’ lack of spiritual and emotional support following early pregnancy loss, commonly called a miscarriage. The available research on the emotional impact of early pregnancy loss has grown stronger over the last three decades. However, there is a deficit of research exploring the spiritual implications of miscarriage and how faith is used as a coping mechanism for pregnancy grief. In modern culture, the term spirituality can mean many different things. With this awareness, Mercy Healthcare embraces and supports patients wherever they find …

What Would A Teacher Do?: A Case Study On Alternative School Teachers' Perceptions On Cyberbullying, Darius Cortez Philpot
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this case study was to discover the perceptions of alternative school teachers regarding how they define, intervene, and detect incidents of cyberbullying in their classrooms at Rock City Alternative School (pseudonym). The theory guiding this study is Albert Bandura’s social learning theory and Herbert Kelman’s social influence theory. Bandura (1977) believes that most human behavior is learned through observation, imitation, and modeling. In social influence theory, Kelman (1958) provided a stable foundation for understanding influences by socializing media. The data collection process included semi-structured interviews, focus groups, and document analysis. Data analysis was ongoing and occurred throughout …

Investigating The Impact Of The Church Covenant On The Revitalization Of A Declining Church, Robert Gene Gifford
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The local church finds itself in crisis and the decline in attendance and membership in churches is undeniable. The thesis project establishes that there is more to being a Christian than identifying as one. To reverse the declining trajectory, churches must understand what a church is, what a church member is, and the importance of regenerate church membership. The premise of this project thesis was that if the pastor preached on the church’s historic covenant, it would serve as a starting point for the revitalization of the declining church by affecting the member’s understanding of the church and their role …
