Music And Mood Regulation: The Effect Of Upbeat Music On Moods, Abiola Adebayo Apr 2023

Music And Mood Regulation: The Effect Of Upbeat Music On Moods, Abiola Adebayo

Student Academic Conference

Research suggests that emotional regulation plays a vital role in mental and physical health and that music is often used for mood regulation. This research explored how music is used for mood regulation and the general effect of music on moods. This study examined the adaptive and maladaptive use of music for mood regulation. Two groups of participants were used; half of the participants were randomly assigned to melancholy music, and the other half were randomly assigned to upbeat music. A questionnaire containing The Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS) was used to measure current mood states before and after …

“Sharenting” And Child Privacy: A Content Analysis Of Parent Bloggers’ Instagram Posts, Abiola Adebayo Apr 2023

“Sharenting” And Child Privacy: A Content Analysis Of Parent Bloggers’ Instagram Posts, Abiola Adebayo

Student Academic Conference

In this age of artificial intelligence and identity theft, there is an increasing concern for online safety. In recent years, there has been an increase in parents sharing more of their children's lives on the Internet, a trend known as "sharenting”. Beyond posing potential security risks, many of these children do not or cannot consent to publicly sharing their lives. This study used content analysis methods to explore how primary caregivers share information about their children's lives in ways that may compromise their privacy or safety. Fifty public Instagram posts were randomly selected and coded for several aspects of a …

2-dimensional materials have gained much popularity after the rise of graphene with its unique physical properties such as high electrical conductivity, high thermal conductivity, and high elasticity. There is an active search for 2D materials beyond graphene to improve performance in energy applications, sensors, and optoelectronic devices. Recently, transition metal dichalcogenides such as molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) are on the rise. However, MoS2 is well researched whereas molybdenum oxide (MoOx) has been studied less. Molybdenum oxide can be in various forms such as MoO, MoO2, and MoO3. MoO2 and MoO3 …

Application Of Wray-Agarwal Turbulence Model To Axisymmetric Subsonic And Transonic Flows, Mike Kiely Apr 2023

Application Of Wray-Agarwal Turbulence Model To Axisymmetric Subsonic And Transonic Flows, Mike Kiely

NASA-Missouri Space Grant Consortium

This paper describes the problem setup, implementation, and numerical results obtained with the commercial CFD software ANSYS Fluent to test the accuracy of the one equation Wray-Agarwal (WA) turbulence model in comparison to the commonly used one-equation Spalart-Allmaras (SA) turbulence model by computing two axisymmetric benchmark problems, namely the subsonic flow past an axisymmetric after-body and the transonic flow past Sandia axisymmetric bump. The axisymmetric after-body case features low speed flow in near separation conditions where it was found that the Wray- Agarwal model and the Spalart-Allmaras model produced nearly identical results. The Sandia transonic axisymmetric bump case features a …

Precise, Scalable, And Low-Cost Manufacturing Of Microperforated Cylindrical Tube As A Broadband Acoustic Ventilation Barrier, Ian Greene Apr 2023

Precise, Scalable, And Low-Cost Manufacturing Of Microperforated Cylindrical Tube As A Broadband Acoustic Ventilation Barrier, Ian Greene

NASA-Missouri Space Grant Consortium

Broadband acoustic ventilation barrier, which can simultaneously block acoustic transmission and maintain ventilation of air flow, promotes potential air-permeable yet sound-proofing applications in green buildings. Emerging microperforated cylindrical tube has demonstrated broadband acoustic attenuation, especially in the low frequency range, as well as sufficient ventilation, which is enabled by micron-scale perforations over the entire surface of cylindrical shell. Therefore, precise manufacturing technology is desirably demanded to fabricate microperforated cylindrical tubes at large scale and economically. In this project, we develop a synchronization assistant control (SAC) system that is integrated with a computer numerical control (CNC) drilling system for continuous fabrication …

The Impact Of Hyper-Gravity On C. Elegans Populations In A Laboratory Ecosystem, Greta Adams Apr 2023

The Impact Of Hyper-Gravity On C. Elegans Populations In A Laboratory Ecosystem, Greta Adams

NASA-Missouri Space Grant Consortium

Despite the large amount of effort going into biological hypo gravity studies, there is little of the opposite. In past studies hyper-gravity has been shown to have a huge impact on both the cellular and organismal level of functionality. In this study hyper-gravity was simulated with centrifugation and inflicted on populations of the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans. The generations that follow were monitored for growth in comparison with populations with the same genetics. Centrifugation of the parental generation varied with intensity. Other factors, including lineage and developmental stage at treatment, were tested. There was no significant divergence in population growth …

Women In Silence: Paul's Words About Disruptive Women In Church Gatherings, Charles Davenport Apr 2023

Women In Silence: Paul's Words About Disruptive Women In Church Gatherings, Charles Davenport

Global Tides

This research seeks to understand the meaning behind Paul's words in 1 Corinthians 14:31-35. Paul's direct command, "women should keep silent," seems quite clear on paper, but more context is needed when contemporary churches decide how to apply these words. This article examines three theories: the passage being a rebuttal, the passage being an interpolation, and the passage having significant cultural context. After reviewing the three theories, the proposed interpretation is that Paul's command was to a specific people in one particular cultural context, not a universal command for all churches of all generations.

Donorsexuality After Dobbs, Mary Anne Case Apr 2023

Donorsexuality After Dobbs, Mary Anne Case

University of Chicago Legal Forum

For the better part of a century, the United States Supreme Court has issued a series of decisions, “the underlying premise of [which is] that the Constitution protects ‘the right of the individual . . . to be free from unwarranted governmental intrusion into . . . the decision whether to bear or beget a child.’”1 The most controversial line of such decisions, protecting from “unwarranted governmental intrusion” an individual’s right to choose to terminate a pregnancy through abortion, 2 has been decisively overruled.3 The same conservative justices who have eliminated abortion rights have for the entirety of …

Bringing Up The Bodies, Bennett Capers Apr 2023

Bringing Up The Bodies, Bennett Capers

University of Chicago Legal Forum

Allow me to begin with a scene from one of my favorite novels of the last twenty years. The novel is Hilary Mantel’s Bring Up the Bodies, 1 the second in her award-winning trilogy of historical novels about Thomas Cromwell and King Henry VIII.2

By the start of Bring Up the Bodies, King Henry VIII has had his first marriage annulled and is now married to Anne Boleyn. Indeed, Anne Boleyn is pregnant, and the king is optimistic about a male heir. But the king already has eyes on Jane Seymour, and when Anne Boleyn miscarries, the king is …

Managing And Monitoring The Menopausal Body, Naomi R. Cahn, Bridget J. Crawford, Emily Gold Waldman Apr 2023

Managing And Monitoring The Menopausal Body, Naomi R. Cahn, Bridget J. Crawford, Emily Gold Waldman

University of Chicago Legal Forum

This Essay explores how menopausal bodies are managed and monitored in contemporary U.S. culture. The focus is on two distinct aspects of that management and monitoring: menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) and the burgeoning market for technology-driven menopause products and services. While each of these allegedly improves the menopause experience, a closer investigation reveals a more complex interaction of profit motives and traditional notions of gender identity. The Essay identifies problems with current medical and business practices and suggests a role for law in destigmatizing menopause, ensuring availability and safety of MHT, and enhancing privacy for users of menopause-oriented apps and …

3d Reconstruction Of Syndactylized Hand In Autodesk Recap Photo With Arduino, Caleb E. Scheideger Apr 2023

3d Reconstruction Of Syndactylized Hand In Autodesk Recap Photo With Arduino, Caleb E. Scheideger

ONU Student Research Colloquium

Syndactyly is one of the most common congenital malformations of the hand and is a result of a failed separation of adjacent digits. These digits are common among congenital limb malformations that affect 1 out of 2,000-3,000 people at birth. A reconstructive surgery would be needed to separate the digital skin, reconstruct the web space between fingers, and cover the separated digits with soft tissues. Finding the optimal shape and size for a dorsal flap in the web commissure reconstruction is important to avoid web creep. Conducting a numerical study with known mechanical properties, such as Young’s Modulus of the …

Brave Spaces, Radical Openness, And Youth Loneliness, Riese Munoz, Mariah Thomas, Taylor Curry Apr 2023

Brave Spaces, Radical Openness, And Youth Loneliness, Riese Munoz, Mariah Thomas, Taylor Curry

University of Montana Conference on Undergraduate Research (UMCUR)

Brave Spaces, Radical Openness, and Youth Loneliness

Global Leadership Initiative

Globally, young adults face potentially isolating social pressures. Today’s youth feel frequent anxieties about fitting in, finding success, and uncertainty of the future, and these anxieties are exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Young adults worldwide report feeling more anxious, more depressed, and more lonely. However, deliberate community building, the creation of art and writing as a means of self-exploration, and the creation of spaces designed for acceptance fend off these feelings of loneliness. How might we acknowledge social pressures on young adults and create a brave space to build community …

Microfabrication Of Metal “Grass” For Enhanced Heatsink Performance, Cooper Ressel Apr 2023

Microfabrication Of Metal “Grass” For Enhanced Heatsink Performance, Cooper Ressel

NASA-Missouri Space Grant Consortium

Heatsinks work by dissipating heat to the surrounding air through convection. A limit that they face is the trapping of heat in the layer of air nearest the surface, which greatly lowers performance. Previous studies have investigated various ways of mitigating this effect by disturbing the trapped layer, with one method being the use of passive devices that naturally flap in air flow. This study investigates methods of microfabrication to make arrays of small metal tabs that can be attached to the surface of a heatsink to enhance its thermal performance. Metal 3D printing, laser cutting, die cutting, and wet …
