Macroprudential policies are increasingly being used in various countries after the global financial crisis in 2008. One of the macroprudential policies in Indonesia is the motor vehicle loan down payment policy. This study discusses the impact of the down payment policy on the growth of banking motor vehicle loans in Q1 2011 to Q4 2019. Using the fixed effect model method, the study was conducted on all banks that provided motor vehicle loans during the study period. The results indicate that down payment policy has significant impact on the growth of banking motor vehicle loans. The growth of motor vehicle …

Augmented reality (AR) integrates virtual content into a consumer's perception of the real world. While academic interest in AR is growing, most prior research has focused on consumer evaluations of AR content and neglected the physical context in which AR content is consumed. Addressing this research gap, two experimental studies showed that context (e.g., experiencing a virtual sofa at home vs. in a university classroom) impacts consumer judgments and evaluations. The results reveal two primary effects of context. First, contexts in which virtual objects meet users' personal and cultural expectations associated with a specific location (e.g., a sofa in a …

Designing For Multigenerational Households In The United States, Dongniya Xiu Apr 2023

Designing For Multigenerational Households In The United States, Dongniya Xiu

Theses and Dissertations

Aging has become a challenging issue worldwide as well as in the United States where the high cost of nursing homes and unfriendly insurance plans have exacerbated the situation. To address this issue, multigenerational living arrangements have gained attention to bring financial, social, and environmental benefits, and reduce social isolation and loneliness among older adults. Researchers employed qualitative research methods by gathering data from open-ended interviews and observations to explore interior design needs and concerns and to identify necessary adjustments to promote aging-friendly living environments for multigenerational households. A total of 8 participants from four multigenerational households were conducted in …

Plant Sentience: A Hypothesis Based On Shaky Premises, Carel Ten Cate Apr 2023

Plant Sentience: A Hypothesis Based On Shaky Premises, Carel Ten Cate

Animal Sentience

Plants may produce fascinating behavioural phenomena for which the label ‘cognitive process’ may be applicable, at least by some definitions. Segundo-Ortin & Calvo (2023) base their hypothesis that plants might be sentient on the premise of demonstrated presence of cognitive complexity. However, the way phenomena are ascribed, and how the term ‘cognitive’ is used by Segundo-Ortin & Calvo, deviates from the common practice in studies of animal cognition, implying greater complexity than seems justified. It thus provides a questionable basis for attributing sentience to plants.

Developing A Silvopastoral System For Use In Pará, Brazil, Laurel Kerkman Apr 2023

Developing A Silvopastoral System For Use In Pará, Brazil, Laurel Kerkman

USF St. Petersburg campus Honors Program Theses (Undergraduate)

Land use changes brought on by agriculture are responsible for both a significant portion of climate change and emissions from livestock. Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are released from land degradation and deforestation as diverse ecosystems are turned into pastures. Brazil, which ranks among the top four in the world for food production, is a hotspot for agriculture-related deforestation. Currently, Brazil is the largest exporter of beef in the world, which has put a strain on the environment as natural resources are destroyed in order to make room for industry. This thesis looks at and suggests silvopastoral farming systems …

Effects Of Time On Fingerprint Deposition After Alcohol-Based Hand Sanitizer Application, Allison Richards Apr 2023

Effects Of Time On Fingerprint Deposition After Alcohol-Based Hand Sanitizer Application, Allison Richards

USF St. Petersburg campus Honors Program Theses (Undergraduate)

Since the height of the COVID pandemic in 2020, alcohol-based hand sanitizers have been utilized by the general public because it eliminates germs on the skin surface along with virus cells. The use of hand sanitizer can have an adverse effect on the collection of fingerprints at a crime scene. A fingerprint is made up of amino acids which deteriorate under the presence of alcohol-based hand sanitizer. With prolonged use the product can even erode a subject’s skin altering the fingerprint to the point that it does not match documented latent prints. The purpose of this experiment is to determine …

Hansen Technologies: Mvp Kaizen Event, Kyle Kraus, Ethan Mahon, Erick Hohler, Alexander Knowles

Senior Design Project For Engineers

Hansen Technologies, based in Commerce GA, is a global leader in the production of industrial refrigeration. One of their most profitable product assembly cells, the Multivalve Platform cell, is not currently producing enough to meet increasing demand. The MVP team focused on analyzing and designing a system using Kaizen to improve the throughput of the MVP cell. After conducting a root cause analysis through Gemba and video analysis, key areas were noted for improvement. Small inconsistencies, such as losing grip on the heavy MVP and searching for materials can take a lot of time away from achieving higher throughput levels. …

On Groundless Fears, Justin Aungst Apr 2023

On Groundless Fears, Justin Aungst

Theses

I often have dreams in which I’m chased or followed. Sometimes there’s an urgent life-threatening pace where I’m running from a pursuer. Often, it’s slower and less immediate, and in some cases, I don’t turn around to see if someone is behind me. The feeling of being followed is enough to keep me moving. On Groundless Fears is a photographic series that focuses on subconscious anxieties where the root causes are not readily apparent to us. Untethered from reality, these fears loom and seep into the mundane. The setting of an American suburb is meant to be familiar and unsuspecting; …

The learning outcomes are expected to be theoretical foundations about gamification, design-based thinking, creative and critical thinking, and applicable gamification cases.

Adaptive Sports Equipment: A Resource For Clinicians, Coaches, & Athletes, Allison Chown Apr 2023

Adaptive Sports Equipment: A Resource For Clinicians, Coaches, & Athletes, Allison Chown

Student Capstone Papers

Background: About 61 million adults who live in the United States (US) have a disability, which equates to about one in four adults in the US (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2020). Unfortunately, only one out of every ten people who need assistive technology (AT) have access to the proper equipment, with lack of awareness of the devices being one of the causes (World Health Organization [WHO], 2018). It has been noted in literature that a lack of awareness exists amongst clinicians, coaches, & athletes regarding available adaptive equipment (AE) to support participation in adaptive sports ([AS] Bergem, …

“Finfluencers In The Wild” A Call For Regulation Addressing The Growth Of Online Investment Advice, Mia Stefanou Apr 2023

“Finfluencers In The Wild” A Call For Regulation Addressing The Growth Of Online Investment Advice, Mia Stefanou

Brooklyn Law Review

Illustrated in part by the abnormal market volatility that resulted from the popularity of meme stocks in early 2021, a new era of securities trading is taking place. With increasing frequency, investors look to social media discourse for investment advice. The current regulatory regime in the United States fails to address the increasing prominence of a new type of market participant—the “finfluencer.” This new breed of advisor is the social media influencer who provides investment advice to other users online. This note discusses the global conversations surrounding the emergence of this group, examines the US governance framework, specifically the Investment …

Serving Up The Truth On America’S Failing Organic Food System, Leah M. Elefante Apr 2023

Serving Up The Truth On America’S Failing Organic Food System, Leah M. Elefante

Brooklyn Law Review

The organic food market in the United States has grown from a niche subset into an integral component of American food consumption. The current laws regulating the organic industry, including the recently adopted Strengthening Organic Enforcement (SOE) final rule, do not align with the average consumer’s understanding as they navigate the many options in grocery stores. This note analyzes the history and evolution of the organic food market in the United States, the process by which food producers become organic certified, and the pitfalls of the current system, which relies on definitions crafted by politicians, not scientists, and allows many …

The Spiritual Impact Of Female Pastoral Leadership On Members Of New Heritage Fellowship, Cheryl Russell Apr 2023

The Spiritual Impact Of Female Pastoral Leadership On Members Of New Heritage Fellowship, Cheryl Russell

DMin Project Theses

This April 2023 Doctor of Ministry project thesis at Lipscomb University examines how, today, many females are waiting for opportunities to serve in pastoral leadership, hoping to partner with local churches to help carry the story of God forward in a moment of great vulnerability for the church, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, very few churches are opening their doors to females for key leadership roles, upholding a long tradition of male-only leadership. This project explores the spiritual impact of egalitarian culture and female pastoral leadership on the members of New Heritage Fellowship. My hope is that …

La Barítona, Del Silenci A L’Actualitat, Nuria Bonet, Albert Fontelles-Ramonet, Jaume Nonell Juncosa

School of Art, Design and Architecture

Plant Sentience: "Feeling" Or Biological Automatism?, Andrea Mastinu Apr 2023

Plant Sentience: "Feeling" Or Biological Automatism?, Andrea Mastinu

Animal Sentience

Sentience refers to the ability of an organism to have subjective experiences such as sensations, emotions and awareness. Whereas some animals, including humans, are widely recognized as sentient, the question of whether plants are sentient is still debated among scientists, philosophers, and ethicists. Over the past 20 years, many scientists such as Trewavas, Baluška, Mancuso, Gagliano, and Calvo have reported interesting discussions about memory, behavior, communication, and intelligence in plants. However, the reported conclusions have not convinced the entire scientific community. In this commentary, I would like to focus on two critical aspects related to sentience: cognition and emotion

Incidental Metastatic Lung Cancer In A Patient Being Treated For Community-Acquired Pneumonia: The Case For Lung Cancer Screening In Rural America, Carl T. Heinrich Iv, Stephen Stabbert, Dayan Sanchez, Jayton A. Lim, David Martin, Suporn Sukpraprut-Braaten

GME Publications

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. Efforts to decrease the number of deaths over the last decade have included the publication of guidelines by the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommending annual low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) scanning in patients meeting specific criteria in order to facilitate the detection and classification of potential cancers, allowing for earlier and possibly curative intervention. Unfortunately, not every patient who meets these criteria will receive LDCT surveillance due to low socioeconomic status, geographic barriers, and limited access to healthcare related to the growing shortage of primary …

Leadership Education And Otherism, Jim Mohr, Kristine Hoover Apr 2023

Leadership Education And Otherism, Jim Mohr, Kristine Hoover

International Conference on Hate Studies

Othering is often an overlooked ethical and theoretical issue in the field of Leadership Studies. The need for greater inclusion in our organizations and in our communities is more important than ever given the structural disparities in access to health care and education, in criminal justice sentencing, and in fulfillment of leadership roles themselves. People in positions of power have a responsibility to understand othering processes and their impacts in organizations (Palfreyman, 2005). Leadership education can help to form leaders who are more aware of the importance of the quality of their relationships with the Other, grounded in values of …
