Increasing Access To Doulas In Oregon: A Delphi Study, Courtney Elizabeth Crane

Doulas are trained, nonmedical support professionals that provide continuous emotional, informational, physical, and practical support before, during, and after childbirth. Doula care has been shown to reduce the cost of birth-related healthcare, reduce adverse birth outcomes, and increase patient satisfaction and positive birth experience. In 2011 Oregon became the first state to authorize payment expenditures of doula care through Medicaid as a strategy to reduce birth-related health disparities and increase culturally and linguistically appropriate healthcare delivery. Evidence-Based Practice Guidelines For The Optimal Assessment Of The Airway In Predicting Difficult Intubation, Meredith Louden

Adverse respiratory events are the most common injuries in anesthesia; difficult intubation and ventilation contribute to most cases. Injuries following inadequate airway management include cerebral hypoxia, aspiration, and cardiac arrest. Despite the risk and consequences following inadequate airway management, most medical facilities lack standardized airway assessments for anesthesia providers. Current evidence implicates that ultrasound measurement of the hyomental distance demonstrates the highest specificity and accuracy in predicting difficult intubation. The traditional approach to conducting airway assessments includes Mallampati classification, which shows high specificity for predicting difficult airways only when combined with other airway assessments. A rice cultivar designated ‘Jewel’ is disclosed herein. The present invention provides seeds, plants, and plant parts derived from rice cultivar Jewel. Further, it provides methods for producing a rice plant by crossing Jewel with itself or another rice variety. The invention also encompasses any rice seeds, plants, and plant parts produced by the methods disclosed herein, including those in which additional traits have been transferred into Jewel through the introduction of a transgene or by breeding Jewel with another rice cultivar.

Bilayer Electrospun Membranes For Treating Fracking Wastewater Via Membrane Distillation, Jorge Almodovar, Ranil Wickramasinghe, Yu-Hsuan Chiao, David Alfonso Castilla-Casadiego

A bilayer electrospun membranes for treating hydraulic fracking wastewater via membrane distillation, and more particularly to bilayer electrospun membranes having an omniphobic layer to prevent low-surface tension solution wicking and an oleophobic antifouling surface to prevent foulant depositing on the membrane. Nanoparticles are decorated on the omniphobic surface through electrochemical interaction, which is coated with a fluorine monomer on the nanoparticles. A zwitterionic co-polymer is grafted using self-assembly between hydroxy groups on the antifouling surface generated by alkaline treatment and anchor segment epoxy groups on zwitterionic co-polymer.

INTRODUCTION/OBJECTIVES: Sleep disorders affect around 50 to 70 million Americans, with chronic insomnia being the most common, especially in the elderly population. With an 11-fold increase in the US office visits due to insomnia, from 0.8 to 9.4 million, between 1993 and 2015, it is imperative to identify the modifiable risk factors. The aim of our study was to examine the association of risk factors and comorbid medical conditions with insomnia in patients 65 years, and older.

As five Andrew J. Mellon Transformative Learning in the Hu-manities Faculty Fellows in the City University of New York, we capture in this essay the dialectical experience of ungrading our community college courses with our students. Drawing on case examples of implementing un-grading in a range of courses and a thematic analysis of our students’ reflec-tion submissions of being ungraded, we argue that ungrading is an effective pedagogical tool for debunking a deficits-based, outcomes-focused perspec-tive that is pervasive in studies on and of community college students. Medical marijuana patients must contend not just with their maladies, but with the social stigma surrounding marijuana use as well. This study hypothesizes that advertising can be used to positively influence individual’s acceptance of medical marijuana. It seeks to answer the questions: Can persuasive advertising be used to reduce stigma surrounding medical marijuana? Which advertising method is most effective in this persuasive process? To find the answer, a between subject, factorial design experiment is used. One of six randomized advertisements are shown to participants in a 3x2 (pathos, logos, ethos x guilt and shame) design. Cases are aggregated by the date of onset of COVID-19 symptoms, if known, otherwise by laboratory specimen date if known, otherwise by case referral date. Deaths are aggregated by the date of death if known, otherwise by the last date of a change to the case status.

Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) is an overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine. Symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain and discomfort, malabsorption, nausea, constipation, or diarrhea overlap with several common GI complaints. SIBO affects millions of people worldwide. Many providers are not aware of SIBO or the guidelines that standardize testing and diagnosing.

The Final Scholarly Project (FSP) was based on a literature review that discovered evidence-based literature on SIBO testing strategies such as gut aspirate and culture, clinical symptom presentation, breath testing, nutrient challenge test, and scintigraphy with either lactulose or hydrogen breath testing. Hypothermia is a core body temperature below 36 degrees Celsius. Hypothermia is a common occurrence for many surgical patients that presents with many complications. When patients experience hypothermia during the perioperative setting, it is defined as Inadvertent Perioperative Hypothermia (IPH). During surgery, the patient typically has large body areas exposed to perform surgery in a room that is kept cool leading to lower body temperature and under general anesthesia the body’s ability to regulate body temperature is impaired.
