These few examples demonstrate that Lewis’s fundamental view of Hell was primarily influenced by Christ but also shaped by Christian history and literature. This does not mean that his choice of the particular words "privation, exclusion and banishment" is solely dependent on biblical, historical, or literary influences. It may very well be that Lewis employed these particular expressions because they represented certain traumatic Hell-on-earth experiences endured in his formative years—events that personalized the doctrine and added significant, practical weight to his academic, theological, philosophical, and literary understanding of its horrifying reality.

Now, although Lewis, of course, did not think that nature was a closed system inaccessible to any action from outside it, and in fact, his entire book was written to argue the opposite point of view, I hope to show that this continual usage of nature as “total system” prejudices the argument against miracles, at least subconsciously, by suggesting that nature is a closed system, or at least a system which ordinarily is blocked to outside entry or interference. Thus, David Hume’s unfortunately classic definition— “A miracle is a violation of the laws of nature . . .”6—is premised on …

How to think of Heaven then, which Lewis says “is, by definition, outside our experience,” when the fact is that “all intelligible descriptions must be of things within our experience” is a question that Lewis took seriously, especially since the scriptural imagery “[a]t first sight . . . chill[ed], rather than awake[ned], [his] desire.” He asked how a “typical modern” like himself might interpret the heavenly concept of glory. Edward Sniders is not the only prisoner of war to have received counsel and encouragement from C. S. Lewis during World War II. In fact, Lewis found three different ways to support various British prisoners in their time of extreme need. He did this through supervising the selection of religious books sent to POW camp libraries, developing with J. R. R. Tolkien an English Literature study course and examination for POWs, and writing to individual prisoners. The present article will explore each of these three efforts.

Lewis wrote Studies in Words "to help students understand the lexical and historical meaning of certain common words, in effect, to assist “a more accurate reading of old books.” His choice of words, with their classical, European, and British contexts, is reflective of Lewis’s vocation as a professor of English literature. However, the chosen words also contain moral meanings. Supreme Court Justices and lower court judges look to these briefs particularly for non-case-specific factual information––“legislative facts”—relevant to a case. This Article calls attention to a recurrent yet unrecognized problem with amicus filings offering up legislative facts in the many cases centrally involving the most vulnerable members of society—namely, non-autonomous persons, including both adults incapacitated by mental illness, intellectual disability, or other condition, and children. Congress passed Section 230 at the dawn of the internet era to protect innovators from traditional publisher tort liability. At the time, the internet consisted primarily of basic message boards and informational pages. Courts have interpreted Section 230 to provide internet platforms with sweeping immunity from liability for third-party content. The statute has aged poorly and is now ill-suited for today’s internet tools. Zoning is increasingly viewed as a constraint on the nation’s housing supply, and as zoning enters its second century, there is a strong drumbeat for reform. Across the country, reformers have targeted the elimination of single-family zoning, pointing to research showing that single-family zoning drives up development costs, degrades the environment, and homogenizes communities. While allowing more multi-family options could help address these issues, reformers should not exclusively focus on the elimination of single-family zoning. Mulberry leaf extract high in the iminosugar 1-deoxynojirimycin (DNJ) has been shown in previous studies to inhibit glycosidase enzyme activity. A novel supplement including mulberry leaf extract, berberine and cinnamon extract was evaluated in a two-cohort study using endpoints of glycemic variability, postprandial glucose response, fasting glucose, fasting insulin, and safety markers. In the first cohort (n=15), these endpoints were determined over two weeks by continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and blood/urine analyses in healthy adults. Approximately half of the participants (n=7) took a dosage of 250 mg prior to each meal, and the other participants (n=8) took 500 mg before …
