A core element of hospital antibiotic stewardship programs is the tracking of outcomes. It is recommended that hospitals do this by reporting to the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) Antimicrobial Use (AU) Option. With this, hospitals can access the Standardized Antimicrobial Administration Ratio (SAAR) for various antibiotic groupings and locations. While there are benefits to the SAAR, several limitations reduce the interpretation and utility of SAAR values. In particular, the SAAR cannot inform users of antimicrobial appropriateness. Asthma maintenance inhalers are inordinately expensive, inhibiting patients from affording their medication and compromising compliance and adherence and optimal health outcomes. The objective of this article was to examine and highlight the competitive world and challenged opportunity of manufacturers' coupons discounting the inordinate cost of respiratory inhalers and asthma treatment. The cost of asthma treatment, in particular the cost of respiratory medicines, even with health insurance, can be prohibitive (upwards of $700 per month for one inhaler). Muslim Americans have reported experiencing racial profiling, physical threats, and verbal abuse based on their religion, ethnicity, and color (Samari, 2016). These types of lived experiences can have negative personal consequences for Muslim Americans and influence their attitudes and behavior toward non-Muslims. A literature review conducted by Simon et al. (2018) suggests the need for research that explores the point of view of minorities regarding intolerance displayed by majority members. Culturally Responsive Domestic Violence Interventions For Immigrant Communities In The United States: A Scoping Review, Abha Rai, Kristen Ravi, Nibedita Shrestha, Luis R. Alvarez-Hernandez

Journal of Social Work in the Global Community

Immigrants are at a higher risk of domestic violence (DV) victimization due to their unique positionality in the United States. The goal of this scoping review is to examine the extent to which cultural responsivity is incorporated in DV interventions developed for immigrant communities. Peer-reviewed articles between 2005–2021 were reviewed across 11 databases. Our sample included n = 15 articles that highlighted interventions designed for diverse immigrant groups, including Latinx and Asian groups. Building unique interventions for specific immigrant groups would allow for prioritizing the needs of survivors while engaging in direct service provision by social workers.

Synchronous breast cancer is a rare event. The majority of cases of synchronous breast cancer will have minor differences in receptor status, but rarely different origins of the tumors. Various breast tumors can have either epithelial or mesenchymal origin and have different treatment strategies and outcomes. In the literature there is a paucity of information regarding the synchronous presentation and treatment of a triple negative invasive ductal carcinoma (TN IDC) and a malignant phyllodes tumor (mPT). This case presentation discusses a 64-year-old woman who presented with a left breast TN IDC and a right breast malignant phyllodes tumor.

Endometriosis is a common gynecological disease among reproductive-age women that can result in chronic pain, severely decreased quality of life, and infertility. We present a case of a 44-year-old female with a known history of endometriosis who presented with constipation, decreased appetite, iron deficiency anemia, and unintentional weight loss for 6 months. Investigation with colonoscopy discovered a partially-obstructing mass in her proximal rectum and no evidence of malignancy on biopsy. The mass was subsequently removed during a combined robotic-assisted total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-ophorectomy and low anterior resection with reanastomosis. Sarcoidosis is a multisystem granulomatous disease primarily characterized by pulmonary manifestations. Extrapulmonary involvement in sarcoidosis is well documented and common, but isolated extrapulmonary involvement is rare at around 10% of cases at the time of diagnosis. Cutaneous presentations vary significantly, with erythema nodosum being the most common. Since extrapulmonary symptoms most likely suggest systemic involvement, any way to identify sarcoidosis early is paramount. We present a case of a 63-year-old Caucasian female with multiple palpable 0.5-3cm nodules under the skin of the bilateral forearms, left hand, and lower extremities. The early primary education system in Cambodia is working to expand its teacher mentoring network. This quantitative and qualitative study examines the motivational factors of school-based early grade literacy mentors and master mentors who have played these roles in a pilot program implemented by a United States Agency for International Development-funded project during the 2021-2022 academic year in Cambodia. The study finds that mentors are motivated to perform the mentoring roles for intrinsic reasons such as improving student education and peer learning. In this study, nickel oxide (NiO) nanoparticles were successfully synthesized by Syzygium aromaticum (clove) extract via a green synthesis method and evaluated their antibacterial properties. The bio-molecules inside the extract play an important role in converting nickel nitrate salt into nickel oxide nanoparticles. The prepared nickel oxide nanoparticles were characterized via different techniques such as X-ray Diffraction, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission-scanning electron microscopy and ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer.
