Quantitative Dual-Energy Ct Image Guidance For Thermochemical Ablation: In Vivo Results In The Rabbit Vx2 Model, Emily A Thompson, Natalie W Fowlkes, Megan C Jacobsen, Rick R Layman, Erik N K Cressman

PURPOSE: To evaluate the feasibility of using dual-energy computed tomography (CT) and theranostic cesium hydroxide (CsOH) for image guidance of thermochemical ablation (TCA) in a rabbit VX2 tumor model.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: In vivo experiments were performed on New Zealand white rabbits, where VX2 tumor fragments (0.3 mL) were inoculated into the right and left flanks (n = 16 rabbits, 32 tumors). Catheters were placed in the approximate center of 1- to 2-cm diameter tumors under ultrasound guidance. TCA was delivered in 1 of 3 treatment groups: untreated control, 5-M TCA, or 10-M TCA. Dose mapping/accumulation (DMA) is a topic in radiotherapy (RT) for years, but has not yet found its widespread way into clinical RT routine. During the ESTRO Physics workshop 2021 on "commissioning and quality assurance of deformable image registration (DIR) for current and future RT applications", we built a working group on DMA from which we present the results of our discussions in this article. Our aim in this manuscript is to shed light on the current situation of DMA in RT and to highlight the issues that hinder consciously integrating it into clinical RT routine. As a first outcome of …

The 2022 Texas Teacher Survey conducted by the Charles Butt Foundation reported that in the past year 77% of public school teachers in Texas considered leaving their positions or the teaching profession, an increase of 19% since 2020. A secondary finding was that the presence or absence of administrative support was a key factor in the decision making about whether to leave. This Dialogue, published in the Environmental Law Reporter, examines the escalating threats to U.S. beaches from intensified storms and accelerating sea-level rise driven by climate change. Drawing on a January 2023 panel convened by the Environmental Law Institute, the discussion integrates scientific, legal, policy, and community-based perspectives on sustaining beach and dune ecosystems. Panelists outline projected shoreline retreat, sediment dynamics, and modeling tools used to forecast erosion and coastal flooding. Public policy decision-making is challenging for several reasons. First, the outcomes of pulling a public policy lever are often deeply uncertain because of the complexity of the social and physical systems involved. Second, even if outcomes can be predicted, there are multiple points of view to consider, and the same outcome can be viewed anywhere from very positively to very negatively by different stakeholders. Because of this, public policy decisions should be both robust and just. Robustness helps with the uncertainty in outcomes and justice helps with differences in worldview. This Article examines why and how critical race theory (CRT) should be taught as a mandatory component of the first-year law school curriculum. Learning the fundamentals of critical race theory is not only important to empathetically understand and serve those around you, but necessary to understand the law as it is. The law’s past and future require this. This paper and its accompanying audio piece explores the potential deepening of immersion through adding an attentional element via movement to the sounds and music in an audio soundscape. The paper will argue through literature review and reflection, and demonstrate through its audio content, that adding this spatial element to audio material gives the brain additional attentional anchors to follow and assists in deepening immersion as a result. When a beam of bright light hits the convex and polished surface, an image is reflected back onto the wall. This is a description of a magic mirror, an object from the Han Dynasty (206 BC -24 AD), that embodies how Euro-America views China: both technically advanced and shrouded in mystery. The magic mirror also points to the history of photography, as this term was often used in the Victorian era to describe a camera. To the American aristocracy of the Gilded Age, painted portraits functioned as pictorial symbols of one’s taste, power, and status. This thesis evaluates the motivations of a provincial elite in St. Louis, Missouri, and sees their taste for portraits by Swedish artist, Anders Zorn, as the result of the intersection of myriad cultural and ethnic allegiances. Situating Zorn as a trans-Atlantic artist, this thesis functions as a patronage study, evaluating the portraits and goals of specific St. Louis patrons and analyzes Zorn’s role as an active agent in the art market, leveraging his public persona to establish aesthetic authority over …

Wastewater treatment facilities (WWTFs) and the collection systems (CSs) which feed them provide essential services to society by collecting sewage (aka wastewater), biologically treating it, and minimizing risks to human health as well as the impact of waste on the environment. However, as collection systems age, increasing infiltration and inflow (I/I) from groundwater and stormwater can negatively affect the system.
