Purpose/Hypothesis To examine the association between physical therapists’ rural background and their decision to practice in a rural setting. We hypothesized that years of rural upbringing and size of hometown would be related to rural practice. Number of Subjects 257 physical therapists who graduated from one of two physical therapy programs in the Western United States between 2000 and 2020. Materials and Methods A survey was emailed to 19 physical therapy schools consisting of questions regarding participants’ background, demographics, and job history. Fine artists performing at the collegiate level are at a high risk for developing performance related musculoskeletal injuries due to the unique physical demands and repetitive nature of their movements. Previous research has reported incidence rates as high as 81% and 62% for student dancers and musicians respectively. Despite the high injury rates, research has shown that student performers underreport injuries and are reluctant to seek medical management from health professionals due to unhealthy beliefs and attitudes often held by this population as well as the lack of specialized healthcare. The awareness of sexual harassment has been growing within the workplace, in the home, and within public areas. The #MeToo movement has shined light on this issue in recent years. This study aimed to understand how college students perceive sexual harassment within three scenarios: a music student and their teacher, two coworkers, and between an academic advisor and an adult student. This study included 531 responses from a diverse student population at a Southwest university. Consistent with previous findings, women were more likely to recognize sexually harassing behaviors. Inhalation of Bacillus anthracis spores leads to the most severe form of anthrax. Following phagocytosis by alveolar macrophages, spores germinate inside the phagolysosome. The mechanism used by the newly germinated B. anthracis cells to survive within macrophages is not completely understood.B. anthracis spores contain large concentrations of calcium in complex with dipicolinic acid (Ca-DPA). Upon germination, the cell excretes the large depot of Ca-DPA. DPA is an amphipathic molecule that could act as a buffer and modulate phagolysosome acidification. Response Of The Isothermal Mode Grüneisen Tensor Across Phase Boundaries, Jasmine K. Hinton

The assumptions for the 1912 Grüneisen parameter are reviewed, particularly in the cases of anisotropy, high temperatures, and across phase boundaries. Two main case studies are shown: β-Sn, and Cd. The main techniques of this work involve resistively heated diamond anvil cells with both optical Raman spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction. It is found in Sn that the isothermal mode Grüneisen tensor along increasing isotherms diverges from the single-valued temperature aggregate at the onset of melt, and this is proposed to use as a method of exploring melt phase boundaries in other systems. INTRODUCTION: Chronic excessive welding exposure may be related to higher metal accumulation and structural differences in different subcortical structures. We examined how welding affected brain structures and their associations with metal exposure and neurobehavioral consequences.

METHODS: Study includes 42 welders and 31 controls without a welding history. Welding-related structural differences were assessed by volume and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) metrics in basal ganglia, red nucleus (RN), and hippocampus. Metal exposure was estimated by both exposure questionnaires and whole blood metal levels. Brain metal accumulations were estimated by R1 (for Mn) and R2* (for Fe). Context: Family caregivers assume the primary responsibility of assessing and managing hospice cancer patient symptoms while simultaneously managing their own wellbeing and symptoms. Objectives: Describe caregivers' assessment of hospice cancer patient and their own symptoms during the last 60 days of patient life, and assess the relationship between patient and caregiver symptoms over time.

There is widespread use of gonadal steroid hormone therapy for a variety of indications throughout the reproductive and postreproductive lifespan. These therapies may have particular benefits and specific risk among those with blood disorders, including inherited or acquired bleeding disorders, thrombophilia, thrombosis, or anemia. This clinical review is intended to provide a guidance for counseling and management of adolescent and adult biologic females with thrombophilic risk factors and/or thrombosis who require hormonal therapy. Background: Classic trigeminal neuralgia is a clinical condition with pathognomonic acute and sporadic episodes of pain. Atypical trigeminal neuralgia manifests more dull, constant, and chronic with occasional acute burning or stabbing pain as experienced in classic trigeminal neuralgia. There have been reports of trigeminal neuralgia developing after cervical insults, positing a cervical source of orofacial pain.

Case report: We report a patient with chronic, bilateral atypical trigeminal neuralgia symptoms due to a cervical cavernous malformation who underwent a C3-C6 laminectomy with cavernous malformation resection and had subsequent seroma-induced bilateral classic trigeminal neuralgia. Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) of the ampulla of Vater are extremely rare. Here, we discuss the clinical presentation, diagnostic challenges, and treatment options of a recently experienced case of NET of the ampulla of Vater in light of the literature. A 56-year-old woman presented with recurrent upper abdominal pain. Ultrasonography (USG) of the whole abdomen showed multiple gallstones along with a dilated common bile duct (CBD). For evaluating the dilated CBD, a magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography was performed, which revealed the double-duct sign. Subsequently, an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy showed a bulged-out ampulla of the Vater. Biopsy and histopathological examination of the growth …

Model equations are developed for shear wave propagation in a soft elastic material that include effects of nonlinearity, diffraction, and transverse isotropy. A theory for plane wave propagation by Cormack [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 150, 2566 (2021)] is extended to include leading order effects of wavefront curvature by assuming that the motion is quasiplanar, which is consistent with other paraxial model equations in nonlinear acoustics. Purpose: Developing new therapeutics for any of the more than 100 sarcoma subtypes presents a challenge. After progression from standard therapies, patients with sarcoma may be referred for enrollment in early-phase trials. This study aimed to investigate whether enrollment in biomarker-matched early-phase clinical trials leads to better outcomes for patients with advanced sarcoma.

Experimental design: In this retrospective analysis, investigational treatment characteristics and longitudinal survival outcomes were analyzed in patients with biopsy-confirmed sarcoma enrolled in early-phase trials at MD Anderson Cancer Center from May 2006 to July 2021.

Importance: Long-term survivors of childhood cancer may be at elevated risk for new neurocognitive impairment and decline as they age into adulthood.

Objective: To determine whether aging adult childhood cancer survivors report more new-onset neurocognitive impairments compared with their siblings and to identify risk factors associated with such impairments.

Design, setting, and participants: Participants of this cohort study included adult survivors of childhood cancer from the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study and their siblings as a control group. Background:: Minimally invasive, robotic techniques for hepatobiliary procedures offer the potential for accelerated recovery and reduced opioid usage. Robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy is a technically challenging procedure with a complex reconstruction. In this regard, standardization of the pancreaticojejunostomy technique is critical for safe adoption of robotic technology in pancreatic surgery.

Apoptosis is a form of regulated cell death (RCD) that involves proteases of the caspase family. Pharmacological and genetic strategies that experimentally inhibit or delay apoptosis in mammalian systems have elucidated the key contribution of this process not only to (post-)embryonic development and adult tissue homeostasis, but also to the etiology of multiple human disorders. Consistent with this notion, while defects in the molecular machinery for apoptotic cell death impair organismal development and promote oncogenesis, the unwarranted activation of apoptosis promotes cell loss and tissue damage in the context of various neurological, cardiovascular, renal, hepatic, infectious, neoplastic and inflammatory conditions. …

Background: Studies have shown that cancer stemness and the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response are inversely regulated in colorectal cancer (CRC), but the mechanism has not been fully clarified. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play key roles in cancer progression and metastasis. In this study we investigated lncRNA 01534 (LINC01534) as a possible modulator between cancer stemness and ER stress response.

Methods: In vitro experiments using CRC cell lines were performed to explore a possible role of LINC01534. The expression of LINC01534 in clinical CRC samples was assessed by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and in situ hybridization.

IMPORTANCE: Meta-analyses suggest that corticosteroids may be associated with increased survival without cerebral palsy in infants at high risk of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) but are associated with adverse neurologic outcomes in low-risk infants. Whether this association exists in contemporary practice is uncertain because most randomized clinical trials administered corticosteroids earlier and at higher doses than currently recommended.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether the pretreatment risk of death or grade 2 or 3 BPD at 36 weeks' postmenstrual age modified the association between postnatal corticosteroid therapy and death or disability at 2 years' corrected age in extremely preterm infants.

A male patient in his early 90s with no history of abdominal surgery was referred to us for abdominal pain and vomiting. An abdominal computed tomography (CT) demonstrated dilated small bowel with a double beak sign and poorly enhanced wall, which indicated a closed-loop obstruction that leads to strangulation. A closed-loop bowel was located in front of the anterior and medial segments of the liver and to the right of the round ligament of the liver on axial images. The assessment of the expression of programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1) using immunohistochemistry (IHC) has been controversial since its introduction. The methods of assessment and the range of assays and platforms contribute to confusion. Perhaps the most challenging aspect of PD-L1 IHC is the combined positive score (CPS) method of interpretation of IHC results. Although the CPS method is prescribed for more indications than any other PD-L1 scoring system, its reproducibility has never been rigorously assessed. This topical review discusses the current state of prehospital acute stroke screening and transport, as well as new and emerging advances in prehospital diagnosis and treatment of acute stroke. Met proto-oncogene exon 14 skipping (METex14) mutations are targetable driver genes in approximately 3% of non-small-cell lung cancers (NSCLCs). Ensartinib, a type Ia MET inhibitor, is a multi-kinase inhibitor that has been approved for ALK-positive NSCLCs. Ensartinib was administered for compassionate use (cohort 1) and in a phase II clinical trial (cohort 2) to patients with METex14 mutant NSCLCs, with ORR as a primary endpoint. Molecular simulation was conducted to evaluate ensartinib c-MET interaction, and cell lines, patient-derived organoids (PDOs), and xenograft models were used to test the effectiveness of ensartinib. Optimal donor selection is fundamental to successful allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT), and donor age influences survival after both matched unrelated donor (MUD) and haploidentical donor HCT. Though recent studies have shown similar outcomes between MUD and haploidentical HCT, it is unknown if outcomes differ following HCT with younger haploidentical donors compared to HCT with older MUDs.
