Celem artykułu jest próba odpowiedzi na pytanie czy „przejęcie” pracowników innego przedsiębiorcy może stanowić koncentrację, a jeśli tak, to w jakich przypadkach. Inspirację stanowią sprawy zagraniczne i zjawisko tzw. acqui-hiring, czyli zorganizowanego przejęcia pracowników. Artykuł przedstawia wcześniejsze polskie i zagraniczne sprawy z tego obszaru oraz prezentuje ocenę dokonywaną przez organy antymonopolowe. Poruszono w nim także wyzwania związane z interpretacją przepisów, kryteriami zgłoszeniowymi oraz wpływem takich transakcji na rynek pracy i konkurencję. The ahistorical spectacular stylization of medieval and Renaissance European martial arts, which is common in modern artistic media, is flawed. In at least some cases a historically informed approach is preferable. This thesis describes how one might take such a historically informed approach to writing a fight scene. It examines the martial arts practiced by elite members of society through the medieval poems Beowulf and The Song of Roland, and through martial arts manuals including Fiore de’i Liberi’s Flos Delatorum, the glosses of Johannes Liechtenauer’s Zettel, and the rapier manuals of Camillo Agrippa and Girard Thibault d’Anvers. Harriet Hosmer was an American woman sculptor who studied in Rome, Italy, from 1853 to 1900. Hosmer led her own cohort of women artists and inspired other artists in Rome. Hosmer’s sculptures and the controversies surrounding them exemplify her experiences as a career woman of her time. Hosmer made sculptures of women who defied the will of men, both mythical and historical. Hosmer’s sculptures show how she felt restricted in the world, particularly in the field of sculpture as a woman and how like the figures of her sculptures she found freedom in stone, where she could tell the stories …

In two of his plays, the Ajax and Philoctetes, the tragedian Sophocles uses and alters Homer’s Odysseus to augment the moral message he is trying to instill in his audience. His use of Odysseus changes between these two plays as his moral outlook shifts in the face of changing Athenian fortunes. As the focus of his praise moved away from guiles and sophia to focus more on the “noble ideal,” the ubiquity of Homer’s version of Odysseus meant that Odysseus’ character had to be actively altered when Sophocles wished to encourage the Athenians to follow the noble ideal instead of …

The purpose of this quality improvement project was to evaluate whether an educational intervention on animal-assisted therapy (AAT) improved nursing faculty perceived knowledge and confidence in using AAT to improve program outcomes. The problem addressed was the limited knowledge and confidence among nursing faculty regarding the use of non-traditional, evidence-based strategies to support student mental health. This project was guided by the Stetler Model of Evidence-Based Practice and Lewin’s Change Theory and used a quasi-experimental, one-group pre–post design. Crucial for many biological systems, in astrochemistry, and for fundamental chemistry in general, the conformations adopted by weakly bound complexes of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have been the focus of debate for decades. Still, there are great challenges in forming such complexes in the laboratory, measuring accurate spectroscopic information sensitive to structure, and computing molecular properties for systems subtly bound by dispersive interactions. Here, we employ a combination of gas-phase infrared spectroscopy with extensive density functional theory (DFT) calculations to unambiguously determine the preferred conformation adopted by dimers of neutral thianaphthene, a PAH composed of one six- and one five-membered …

Purpose: This study explores how initial exposure to immersive spatial computing experiences using AR headsets generates lasting inspiration and shapes consumers expected long-term life consequences (i.e., enhancement of reality, perceived substitutability and social impact).

Design/methodology/approach: The study uses a time-lagged research design based on 148 first-time users of spatial computing devices (AR headsets). Respondents were interviewed once shortly after being exposed to AR and a few days later. Data is analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM).

Findings: Users' immediate “inspired-by” experiences predict increased “inspired-to” intentions days later. Such inspiration translates into anticipated consequences such as virtually customizing …

Luminance-Based Mentally-Generated Images Indicate Pupillary Transformation In Novel Method Of Communication For Non-Verbal Patients, Anna Pak

Can the luminance level of mentally generated images affect pupil dilation? The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether mental images in the brain can produce a physiological reaction in pupil dilations specifically. The hypothesis is that if a participant mentally generates images of differing luminance levels, then the pupils will either dilate or constrict accordingly. While this study achieved no statistical significance, it should be noted that further research and advancement of the protocol used in this study can potentially be used for non-verbal medical patients as a new means of communication that is easily accessible.

Monitoring Koyna Dam Displacements Using Persistent Scatterer Interferometry, Sara Zouriq, Gehan Hamdy, Amr Fawzy, Rejoice Thomas, Hesham El-Askary, Eehab Khalil, Mohamed Elsayad, Tarik El-Salawaky

Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science Faculty Articles and Research

Monitoring dam stability is critical to ensure structural safety and operational reliability. This study integrates Persistent Scatterer Interferometry (PSI) based on Sentinel-1 SAR imagery (2020–2023) with Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations to assess the behavior of the Koyna Dam in India. PSI detected crest displacements between −1.0 and −1.8 mm yr−1, while FEM simulations predicted a maximum vertical displacement of approximately −3.2 mm at the crest. Although these results represent different quantities (time-averaged displacement rates versus peak static displacement), both approaches indicate millimeter-scale deformation and a consistent pattern of settlement at the dam crest, supporting the interpretation of hydrologically driven …
