L’Économie Solidaire De Kabylie : Une Perspective Critique, Mohamed-Amokrane Zoreli
Journal of Amazigh Studies
Voir enfin …

Mouloud Mammeri Dans La Bataille D’Alger, Hend Sadi
Mouloud Mammeri Dans La Bataille D’Alger, Hend Sadi
Journal of Amazigh Studies

Saving The News: Why The Constitution Calls For Government Action To Preserve Freedom Of Speech By Martha Minow, Ishaan Kapur
Osgoode Hall Law Journal
In Saving the News, Martha Minow, former Dean of the Harvard Law School and the 300th Anniversary University Professor at Harvard University, analyzes how the rise of internet platforms and social media has led to a decline in the viability of the American press and the spread of misinformation. Arguing that a viable press is fundamental to a constitutional democracy, Minow makes a case for the need for change and outlines the legal basis and specific policy initiatives that could be instituted to remedy the failures of the contemporary ecosystem of the news. She does so while navigating the potential …

College Student Depression Throughout Covid-19: Fall 2019-Spring 2022, Matthew Powless, Zachary Pilot, Valentin Bouvier, Elisabeth Brown, Mikaila Ealum, Lakota Iron Rope
Midwest Social Sciences Journal
The current study examined the trends in depression and emotion regulation for students (n = 899) at one university in the Midwest United States from prior to the COVID-19 pandemic (Fall 2019) through the Spring 2022 semester. An analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was conducted, controlling for difficulties in emotion regulation and gender identity. The ANCOVA indicated that depression was significantly lower in Fall 2019 than in the remaining five semesters under investigation. Results of these analyses appear to indicate that depression rose significantly in students after the onset of the pandemic and implementation of social restrictions. This negative effect …

Sex And Environmental Effects On Chemical Signals Of Gryllus Rubens, Marion Davis Creech Iii, Marion Davis Creech Iii
Sex And Environmental Effects On Chemical Signals Of Gryllus Rubens, Marion Davis Creech Iii, Marion Davis Creech Iii
Honors College Theses
Many animals communicate with one another in the context of reproduction, utilizing different modalities. In some cases, more than one modality is used by the sender and receiver. Each modality can provide different sets of information, or function in a different context. Importantly, no matter the modality, the signals should be clearly distinguishable between males and females and need to be reliable even in the face of environmental changes.
In field crickets, there are two major modes of communication. For long-range communication, the males produce acoustic signals to attract females. At short-range, chemical communication involving cuticular hydrocarbons (CHCs) in males …
Metaperceptions Of Interactions Between Asian And African American Adults, Ariana Schlegel
Metaperceptions Of Interactions Between Asian And African American Adults, Ariana Schlegel
Student Theses
In recent years, there has been a drastic increase in anti-Asian hate crimes in the United States, as well as news stories highlighting African Americans as perpetrators of anti-Asian hate crimes. As such, the paper focuses on how Asian Americans expect to be perceived by others, and how those expectations may change depending on the race (African American or White) and gender (male or female) of the conversation partner. A survey was created, which employed deception to have participants believe that they would have a short video conversation with somebody else about a political topic, and which randomly assigned each …
Standardization Of Perioperative Management Of The Breastfeeding Women, Amrutha Panakkal
Standardization Of Perioperative Management Of The Breastfeeding Women, Amrutha Panakkal
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Mother's milk is the optimal nutrition for the term and preterm neonates. The psychological and physiological stressors in the perioperative setting can impede a lactating mother's ability to breastfeed in the postoperative setting successfully. A best-practice guideline incorporating a stoplight color-coding chart and categories such as "safe," "caution," and "consider avoidance" was used to group medications according to their safety for anesthesia providers in a large urban academic medical center in Pennsylvania. The evidence-based guideline also provided links to the hospital policy, LactMed, and Hale database to streamline resources and aid in the rapid decision-making of anesthesia providers in identifying …

Prehistoric Hunter-Gatherers In The Philippines—Subsistence Strategies, Adaptation, And Behaviour In Maritime Environments, Alfred Pawlik, Riczar Fuentes
Sociology & Anthropology Department Faculty Publications
Archaeological research in the Philippines has produced a timeline of currently over 700,000 years of human occupation. However; while an initial presence of early hominins has been securely established through several radiometric dates between 700 ka to 1ma from Luzon Island; there is currently little evidence for the presence of hominins after those episodes until c. 67 to 50 ka for Luzon or any of the other Philippine islands. At approximately 40 ka; anatomically modern humans had arrived in the Philippines. Early sites with fossil and/or artifactual evidence are Tabon Cave in Palawan and Bubog 1 in Occidental Mindoro; the …

Predicting Suicide Risk Among Youths Using Machine Learning Methods, Saswati Bhattacharjee
Predicting Suicide Risk Among Youths Using Machine Learning Methods, Saswati Bhattacharjee
Master's Theses
Suicide is the second leading cause of death among youths in the USA. Although machine learning approaches have provided great potential for predicting suicide risk using survey data, prediction accuracy may not meet the need for clinical diagnosis due to the intrinsic characteristics of datasets. In this study, I perform a comparative study of six classification algorithms including naïve Bayes (NB), logistic regression (LR), multilayer perceptron (MLP), AdaBoost (Ada), random forest (RF), and bagging using YRBSS dataset and investigate the effectiveness of several data handling techniques to improve the overall performance of suicide risk prediction.
The dataset consists of 76 …

Theses
The thesis project examines the phenomenon and concept of darshan in the context of photography. Interpolating and extrapolating ideas from tenets of Indian philosophy, it presents a perspective on image-making and its relationship to me as an artist. With the artwork mainly situated in the cultural geographies of India and the United States, the text discusses the role of spirituality, light, colour (blue), and walking in my practice. It also references themes of painting and music – raga and rasa that are constructs of Indian musicology – and how they influence the photographic work.
Passive Reconfigurable Dual Linear And Dual Circular Polarization With Clrh-Tl For Microstrip Patch Antennas, Alexander Dacey
Passive Reconfigurable Dual Linear And Dual Circular Polarization With Clrh-Tl For Microstrip Patch Antennas, Alexander Dacey
Theses
Passively controlled reconfigurable antennas are desirable for their relatively inexpensive cost compared to the intensive implementation of RF integrated circuits. Extensive research continues to go into structures utilizing frequency selective metamaterials and their applications in reconfigurable antennas in order to find alternatives to active components. Composite left/right-handed transmission lines (CLRH-TLs), consisting of series capacitors and shunt inductors, are one such structure that is capable of operating as a left-handed transmission line at select frequencies. In this thesis, we propose and investigate a unique frequency selective open circuit utilizing CLRH-TLs that operates as an electrical open and a transmission line at …
Healthy Grocery Shopping Experience Via Augmented Reality, Mengjia Isabelle Qiu
Healthy Grocery Shopping Experience Via Augmented Reality, Mengjia Isabelle Qiu
Theses
This paper presents how augmented reality can facilitate the modern grocery shopping experience in a fast-paced environment. Grocery shopping customers are facing several problems. Firstly, filtering necessary information by eyes while shopping in grocery stores. Secondly, being distracted by overwhelming information leads to time-consuming deviation in an unfamiliar shopping environment. Thirdly, losing track of purchased food at home and buying the same ingredient repeatedly. Fourthly, neglecting ingredient lists that contain allergic or unhealthy food. To solve these problems, increase the efficiency of decision-making, and achieve shopping goals, this project aims to utilize augmented reality as the primary tool to complete …

The Notwithstanding Clause In Canada: The First Forty Years, Tsvi Kahana
Osgoode Hall Law Journal
This article evaluates the use of section 33 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, commonly known as the notwithstanding clause (NWC), over the first forty years of its existence. It provides a comprehensive account of all uses of the NWC in this period, introduces the notion of tyrannical use of the NWC, and develops criteria to evaluate whether a particular use is tyrannical. It then demonstrates that most NWC uses have not been tyrannical; rather, the NWC was used for temporary, ameliorative, or transitional purposes. That said, in the studied period, there have been three instances of tyrannical …

Sin Of Omission: Exploring A Key Credibility Inference In Canadian Refugee Status Rejections, Hilary Evans Cameron
Osgoode Hall Law Journal
Refugee claimants in Canada must submit a “Basis of Claim” form to the Refugee Board before attending a hearing with the adjudicator who will decide their claim. On this form, they are expected to produce a written narrative that explains “everything that is important” about their experiences. At their hearing, many claimants encounter, for the first time, a key principle of Canadian refugee law: The omission of any “important information” from this narrative suggests that they have invented their claim. This study takes a close look at how this “omission from the narrative” inference is operating within a set of …

In the most controversial corporate transaction in Canadian history, Magna repurchased all of the Class B superior voting shares from its controlling shareholder, Frank Stronach, at a 1799 per cent premium to the otherwise identical but inferior voting Class A shares, thus ending Stronach’s long reign as de jure controller of Magna. Despite this massive and unprecedented premium, the transaction generated about three billion US dollars in aggregate value, or about 40 per cent of the pre-transaction market cap of Magna. I nonetheless argue that the transaction was massively flawed from both a procedural and substantive point of view and …
