Pairing And Rotation-Induced Nuclear Exotica In Covariant Density Functional Theory, Saja Teeti
Pairing And Rotation-Induced Nuclear Exotica In Covariant Density Functional Theory, Saja Teeti
Theses and Dissertations
Covariant density functional theory (CDFT) is one of the modern theoretical tools for describing the nuclear structure physics of finite nuclei. Its performance is defined by underlying covariant energy density functionals (CEDFs). In this dissertation and within the framework of the CDFT, different physical properties of the ground and the excited states of rotating and non-rotating nuclei have been investigated.
A systematic global investigation of pairing properties based on all available experimental data on pairing indicators has been performed for the first time in the framework of covariant density functional theory. It is based on separable pairing interaction of Ref.\ …

Theses and Dissertations
Conservation managers and planners need the ‘best available science’ to support robust and defensible decisions, ensuring that public resources are appropriately allocated. Spatial planning products and decision-support tools developed for this purpose should enable partner organizations to achieve focus, coordination, and increased effectiveness in their investments and actions. Whereas conservation partnerships have historically created distinct planning tools, there is increasing interest for improved coordination, communication, and unifying biological datasets to improve the cohesiveness of regional management activities. We sought to inform spatial conservation planning efforts in the southeastern United States through the development of species distribution models for focal avian …
Advancements In Geospatial Monitoring Of Structures, Jordan Keith Baldwin
Advancements In Geospatial Monitoring Of Structures, Jordan Keith Baldwin
Theses and Dissertations
The need for advancements in geospatial monitoring of structures has evolved naturally as structures have become larger, more complex, and technology has continued to rapidly develop. Greater building heights generally lead to greater challenges for surveyors, limiting the practical use of traditional measurement methods. For this reason, a new complimentary method was developed and implemented to support elevation monitoring activities during construction of the Salesforce Tower in San Francisco, California. While some studies have explored the use of strain gauges to monitor strain development within individual members, the primary contribution of this work is that it presents a practical and …

Evaluating The Utility Of Trial-Based Functional Analyses Of Inappropriate Mealtime Behavior: A Comparison Of Identified Functions Across Functional Analysis Methods, Meredith Huff Staggers
Theses and Dissertations
A critical first step in addressing problem behavior is to identify the function of the problem, or reason for engaging in the problem behavior, using systematic assessment procedures known as a functional analysis (FA). The literature consistently demonstrates the effectiveness of FAs, and variations of FAs (e.g., trial-based functional analysis [TBFA]) for assessing a variety of topographies of problem behaviors across populations, age groups, and settings; however, the use of TBFAs for assessing the function of inappropriate mealtime behavior (IMB) has been documented in the literature only once. The purpose of the current study was to contribute to the research …

The Mississippi Timber Severance Tax: Its Economic Impacts To Forestry And The State Economy, Sakar Nepal
Theses and Dissertations
Millions of dollars are collected through Mississippi’s timber severance tax every year which then funds the Forest Resource Development Program (FRDP). This study analyzed their contributions to Mississippi’s economy and found that the total possible contribution was estimated to be $6.0 million in industrial output and 222 full-time and part-time jobs in 2019. However, only about 70 percent of the FRDP funds were expended in that year, and the actual contribution was short by $1.80 million in output and 80 full-time and part-time jobs. This study also examined the impact of the severance tax and FRDP on forest investment, using …

An Analysis Of Text-Based Machine Learning Models For Vulnerability Detection, Kollin Ryne Napier
Theses and Dissertations
With an increase in complexity of software, developers rely more on reuse and dependencies in their source code via code snippets. As a result, it is becoming harder to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities. Although traditional analysis tools are still utilized, machine learning models are being adopted to expand efforts and combat such threats. Given the possibilities towards usage of such models, research in this area has introduced various approaches which vary in usability and prediction. In generalizing models to a more natural language approach, researchers have opted to train models on source code to identify existing and potential vulnerabilities. Exploratory …

Efficacy of the SoG enhanced representations were studied utilizing common Machine Learning (ML) interpretable classifier designs with the SoG representations indicating significant improvement of common analysis metrics.
Physics-Based Modeling Of Post-Wildfire Landslides In Unsaturated Hillslopes, Masood Abdollahi
Physics-Based Modeling Of Post-Wildfire Landslides In Unsaturated Hillslopes, Masood Abdollahi
Theses and Dissertations
Changes in climatic regimes and land use have led to increases in wildfire activities around the world. Wildfires are now happening more frequently, at higher altitudes, and higher severities. Adverse impacts of wildfires can last years after the fire has been contained through post-fire geohazards, such as shallow landslides. Post-wildfire shallow landslides are often mobilized by rainfall and due to fire-induced changes in soil and land cover properties and near-surface processes. This study aims to develop a physics-based framework to evaluate the stability of burned hillslopes against rainfall-triggered shallow landslides. A coupled hydromechanical infiltration model is developed by employing a …
Host-Acquired Virus Genes Support An Ancient Antiviral Role Of The Pirna Pathway In Dipterans, Rebecca Christian
Host-Acquired Virus Genes Support An Ancient Antiviral Role Of The Pirna Pathway In Dipterans, Rebecca Christian
Theses and Dissertations
Endogenous viral elements (EVEs) have been recently investigated as a source of transgenerational immune memory. These “viral fossils” are abundant in Aedes mosquitoes and partner with the host’s primary antiviral defense system, the RNA interference (RNAi) pathways. This partnership appears unique to mosquitoes, which encode an expansion of the Piwi endoribonucleases. To interrogate EVE-Piwi partnerships and their role in antiviral defense, I performed a comparative small RNA analysis of two naturally occurring EVE-virus pairs – one in the mosquito Aedes albopictus, and one in the midge Chaoborus americanus. Both express an EVE related to the nucleoprotein of their …
Oxidation Resistance Of An Atomically Flat Cu(111) Surface: A First-Principles Study, Bipin Lamichhane
Oxidation Resistance Of An Atomically Flat Cu(111) Surface: A First-Principles Study, Bipin Lamichhane
Theses and Dissertations
The first-principles calculation based on density functional theory (DFT) was used to study the oxidation resistance of atomically flat and atomic-step edges of Cu(111), diffusion of Cu atoms in different surfaces of alumina and interface properties of alumina and Cu(111), and magnetic properties of Mn-substituted strontium hexaferrite. The dissociation of oxygen molecules is the primary reason for the corrosion of metals, which deteriorates their application. Cu(111) flat surface, mono-atomic, and multi-atomic step edges were used to study oxygen diffusion. Penetration of oxygen on a Cu(111) flat surface requires high energy, indicating oxidation resistance. Our DFT result of oxygen diffusion into …

Integrated Neutrosophic Best-Worst Method For Comprehensive Analysis And Ranking Of Flood Risks: A Case Study Approach From Aswan, Egypt, Safa Al-Saeed, Nabil M. Abdelaziz
Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
This paper presents a comprehensive framework for the analysis and ranking of flood risks with respect to regional variations and data uncertainties under a Neutrosophic environment. The research introduces a novel approach to flood risk mitigation and management, bringing together the scientifically robust Best-Worst Method (BWM) and single-valued Neutrosophic set for the first time. The unique application of a single-valued Neutrosophic set allows us to better illustrate and manage uncertainty, imprecision, and vagueness in data. Additionally, we employ BWM, a multi-factor decision-making method, for discerning and ranking the most influential flood risk factors. Together, the integrated methodologies provide a balanced, …

Triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2) plays important roles in brain microglial function in neurodegenerative diseases, but the role of TREM2 in the GBM TME has not been examined. Here, we found that TREM2 is highly expressed in myeloid subsets, including macrophages and microglia in human and mouse GBM tumors and that high TREM2 expression correlates with poor prognosis in patients with GBM. TREM2 loss of function in human macrophages and mouse myeloid cells increased interferon-γ-induced immunoactivation, proinflammatory polarization, and tumoricidal capacity. In orthotopic mouse GBM models, mice with chronic and acute Trem2 loss of function exhibited decreased …

"In the decision, the court granted Respondent’s cross motion to vacate a pro se Stipulation entered before the tenant retained counsel based on a potential meritorious overcharge. Follow the precedent of Butterworth v 281 St. Nicholas Partners. LLC. 60 A.D.3d 434 (App. Div. 1st Dep't), the court found that an increase in the rent at the same time the landlords ""ceased filing the annual registration"" can sustain a finding of fraud. Specifically, Judge Arrindell finds that indicia of fraud could potentially include an unexplained jump in the rent plus landlord's failure to register the apartment (here, for two years). The …

Generative And Pseudo-Relevant Feedback For Sparse, Dense And Learned Sparse Retrieval, Iain Mackie, Shubham Chatterjee, Jeffrey Dalton
Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works
Pseudo-relevance feedback (PRF) is a classical approach to address lexical mismatch by enriching the query using first-pass retrieval. Moreover, recent work on generative-relevance feedback (GRF) shows that query expansion models using text generated from large language models can improve sparse retrieval without depending on first-pass retrieval effectiveness. This work extends GRF to dense and learned sparse retrieval paradigms with experiments over six standard document ranking benchmarks. We find that GRF improves over comparable PRF techniques by around 10% on both precision and recall-oriented measures. Nonetheless, query analysis shows that GRF and PRF have contrasting benefits, with GRF providing external context …
