Deep Learning For Skin Photoaging, Gokul Srinivasan May 2023

Deep Learning For Skin Photoaging, Gokul Srinivasan

Computer Science Senior Theses

Skin photoaging is the premature aging of skin that results from ultraviolet light exposure. It is a major risk factor for the development of skin cancer, among other malignant skin pathologies. Accordingly, understanding its etiology is important for both preventative and reparative clinical action. In this study, skin samples obtained from patients with ranging solar elastosis grades – a proxy for skin photoaging – were sequenced using next-generation sequencing techniques to further understand the genomic, epigenomic, and histological signs and signals of skin photoaging. The results of this study suggest that tissues with severe photoaging exhibit increases in the frequency …

Growth Effects Of Currency Misalignment And Capital Flight In Turkey, Abdullahil Mamun, Harun Bal, Shahanara Basher, Md Mahi Uddin, Nazamul Hoque, Mohammad Nazim Uddin

Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking

This study examines the growth effects of real exchange rate (RER) misalignment and capital flight in Turkey during the period 1981-2019. The World Bank’s residual method suggests that capital flight is a widespread problem in Turkey and the Single Equation Approach adopted to delineate the series of RER misalignment identifies that Turkey’s RER is significantly misaligned throughout the sample period. Their growth effects are then examined using the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) bounds approach and we document that RER misalignment degrades per capita output growth while growth faltering capital flight is evident in the presence of policy variables along with …

A New Economic Perspective: Understanding The Impact Of Digital Financial Inclusion On Indonesian Households’ Consumption, Alwahidin N, Arlita Jufra, Beti Mulu, Kiki Novita Sari

Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking

This study is based on the cross-sectional per capita household consumption data sourced from the Indonesian family life survey (IFLS) in wave 5, 2014. These data are analyzed to determine how digital financial inclusion impacts household consumption in Indonesia. Our findings reveal that the increased household consumption is significantly associated with the internet usage index. We further conclude that household consumption significantly increased due to the digital finance, especially in households with fewer assets, lower financial literacy, and lower incomes.

Resident macrophages are distributed across all tissues and are highly heterogeneous due to adaptation to different tissue-specific environments. The resident macrophages of the sensory ganglia (sensory neuron-associated macrophages, sNAMs) are in close contact with the cell body of primary sensory neurons and might play physiological and pathophysiological roles. After peripheral nerve injury, there is an increase in the population of macrophages in the sensory ganglia, which have been implicated in different conditions, including neuropathic pain development. However, it is still under debate whether macrophage accumulation in the sensory ganglia after peripheral nerve injury is due to the local proliferation of …

Irritability Moderates The Association Between Cognitive Flexibility Task Performance And Related Prefrontal Cortex Activation In Young Children, Yanwei Li, Adam S Grabell, Susan B Perlman

2020-Current year OA Pubs

The association between cognitive flexibility and related neural functioning has been inconsistent. This is particularly true in young children, where previous studies have found heterogenous results linking behavior and neural function, raising the possibility of unexplored moderators. The current study explored the moderating role of dimensional irritability in the association between cognitive flexibility task performance and prefrontal activation in young children. A total of 106 3- to 7-year-old children were recruited to complete a custom-designed, child-adapted, cognitive flexibility task, and 98 of them were included in the data analysis. The children's dorsolateral prefrontal cortex activation was monitored using functional near-infrared …

Leukemia Relapse Via Genetic Immune Escape After Allogeneic Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation, Simona Pagliuca, Francesca Ferraro, Et Al.

2020-Current year OA Pubs

Graft-versus-leukemia (GvL) reactions are responsible for the effectiveness of allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation as a treatment modality for myeloid neoplasia, whereby donor T- effector cells recognize leukemia neoantigens. However, a substantial fraction of patients experiences relapses because of the failure of the immunological responses to control leukemic outgrowth. Here, through a broad immunogenetic study, we demonstrate that germline and somatic reduction of human leucocyte antigen (HLA) heterogeneity enhances the risk of leukemic recurrence. We show that preexistent germline-encoded low evolutionary divergence of class II HLA genotypes constitutes an independent factor associated with disease relapse and that acquisition of clonal somatic …

Record High Room Temperature Resistance Switching In Ferroelectric-Gated Mott Transistors Unlocked By Interfacial Charge Engineering, Yifei Hao, Xuegang Chen, Le Zhang, Myung-Geun Han, Wei Wang, Yue-Wen Fang, Hanghui Chen, Yimei Zhu, Xia Hong

Department of Physics and Astronomy: Faculty Publications

The superior size and power scaling potential of ferroelectric-gated Mott transistors makes them promising building blocks for developing energyefficientmemory and logic applications in the post-Moore’s Law era. The close to metallic carrier density in the Mott channel, however, imposes the bottleneck for achieving substantial field effect modulation via a solid-state gate. Previous studies have focused on optimizing the thickness, charge mobility, and carrier density of single-layer correlated channels, which have only led to moderate resistance switching at room temperature. Here, we report a record high nonvolatile resistance switching ratio of 38,440% at 300 K in a prototype Mott transistor consisting …
