When Flood Warnings Fail: Psychological Predictors Of Information Clarity And Evacuation Intention, Katsuya Tanaka, Tadashi Kito, Kohji Tanaka

Flood warnings are often assumed—particularly within traditional average-effect models—to prompt uniform behavioral responses, yet real-world evidence suggests that message effectiveness varies widely across the population. This study empirically identifies and explains such heterogeneity using a factorial survey experiment (n = 1671) conducted among residents in flood-prone regions of Japan. We estimate finite mixture beta regression models to disentangle the distinct behavioral patterns underlying information clarity and evacuation intention. Results reveal two psychological segments: a Responsive majority, whose decisions are shaped by concrete and credible warning attributes (e.g., specific breach point, forecast basis, large-font display), and a Non-Responsive minority, who remain …

Promoting mental wellness and implementing cognitive behavioral strategies brings awareness to staff and students and helps to promote a calm learning environment. School-based occupational therapists support students to participate in school occupations that they may be struggling with and provide them with cognitive behavioral strategies to regulate their emotions. The ACOTE concentration area for this capstone included education to staff members on the impact of mental wellness on student participation in school occupations and education on the Calm Moment Cards program from Every Moment Counts. It seeks to answer how microalgae can enhance probiotic viability during processing and gastrointestinal transit, and what advantages they offer over conventional encapsulation agents, thereby supporting the development of more effective, sustainable probiotic delivery solutions.Recent findings: Recent research highlights that microalgae such as Chlorella vulgaris and Isochrysis galbana possess robust cell structures and bioactive compounds, including polysaccharides, polyunsaturated fatty acids, and antioxidants, which confer protection to probiotics and contribute beneficial prebiotic effects. With the support of the New Mexico State Legislature, the D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) is leading a multi-phase project to design a coordinated care system for New Mexican service members, veterans, and their families. In the project’s first phase, the IVMF conducted a landscape assessment to understand the needs of the military-connected community and examined the viability of a coordinated care system for the state. We found that veteran-serving organizations that participated felt that a coordinated care network would be of value to New Mexico veterans, but questions on how best to implement such a network …

Journal of Comparative & International Higher Education

Empirical research on culturally engaging advising (CEA) for international graduate students, particularly in relation to their cultural backgrounds and identities, remains limited. This study addresses this gap by employing collaborative autoethnography and drawing on CEA and intersectionality frameworks to examine the experiences of four South Korean women doctoral students in the social sciences. Findings highlight challenges these students face due to their intersectional identities as Asian, Korean women and non-native English speakers. This study examines how cultural perceptions of aging influence the structure and delivery of care for older adults in Japan and the United States. By comparing cultural attitudes, this study identifies implications for senior care in each country. While cross-cultural studies comparing senior care systems exist, many lack the cultural context that shapes expectations about aging and care. This work focuses on this distinction. Results revealed 2 major themes: (1) Perception of burden with a subtheme of fear of burdening others, and (2) Perception of successful aging with a subtheme of aging as contentment vs. engagement. This study examined how teachers in China and the United States perceive using AI in education, their experiences with using AI in teaching and facilitating student learning, and factors associated with AI use. Analysis of data from TALIS 2024 revealed that Chinese teachers reported more positive views of AI benefits, and American teachers had more concerns about using AI. A major reason for all teachers’ not using AI is due to their lack of knowledge and skills to teach using artificial intelligence.
